context is important.. even with or without that possible 1-3 start that never happened..

i'm just not a believer that jet fans on the whole are dopes.. anymore than most fan bases are at least..

not lost on many of us is that the decades of awful ownership has always been the real joke.. decades!!

Oh, all fan bases act at least in part like this. But I think Jets fans are an exaggerated form of this. Not all fan bases have the planes and the trucks carrying signs about firing this guy or that guy all the time the way the Jets do.

I thought the story was that Gase got Mikey Macc canned because he didn't make a hard enough play for Paradis. If this latest story is true then Gase prevented another expensive free agent bust. The only way to overhaul the O line is via high round draft picks.

That is a part of it. But at least from a philosophical standpoint, it shows that Gase values investing in the OL more than Macc did.

The reports from day 1 were that Gase didn't want Paradise, he liked Harrison.
Let's not forget why Gase was fired from Miami. The owner had the nerve to suggest going O line in the upcoming draft because their QBs were getting killed for a few seasons and Gase was so against it he cursed out the owner and had to be restrained.
Bad batch of crack? Still pissed about Tunsil?

that's not how it works here..

if douglas ends up being the lastest awful hire by ownership, he will be given at least 4 years to properly **** up the roster for the next guy..

& the new guy will be force fed a HC who he will not have the authority to fire..

That whole time, he will be plagued by tabloid headlines, planes, and trucks, all calling for him to be fired and undercutting his authority in the market.

what exactly is your point??

if douglas turns out to be a shit show, the media & fans should pretend along with ownership he's not shit show??

No. My point is, no matter what he does, the Jets fans and the tabloids will treat him like he's a shit show.

The real issue is that historically we've had abysmal GMs--the last two cataclysmically bad--who have earned the fan and media's scorn. The myriad busts, awful signings or players we've passed up, players we've allowed to leave, etc. are all why these dopes get blasted.

The last two were awful. Idzik obviously worse than Maccagnan, but both bad. Tanny wasn't bad.

As for the busts and for the players passed up, EVERY team has done this many, many times. The entire league passed on Brady until the 6th round. And there are plenty of busts in the first round for every team.

But Jets failures get highlighted by both Jets fans and the media. Why?

1. Jets fans, like all fans, focus on the world through our lens. So we see our busts, and assume every other team doesn't have them.
2. The national media rips on the Jets because of the "New York" in their name. The local media rips on the Jets because they are not the city's establishment team like the Giants are.

Yes, the Jets have had plenty of failings. But other teams have, too. Yet we continue to act like this is only a Jets thing.

OK, now you're just shark jumping.....

Adam Gase had banners calling for him to be fired in the middle of his first year, after enduring one of the most injury-plagued seasons in team history and having a franchise QB catch mono - and this is with the team being one win away from .500 in spite of all that.

Why do you assume Jets fans are rational, when the behavior of many contradicts that?

I have heard these arguments for decades. I don't care what other teams do pertaining to busts, drafts, etc. Zero. I am concerned only with the Jets and how they are/have been managed. And from that perspective it has been a disaster.

Our owners are clowns who have no concept of football or how to hire executives. That much is indisputable. Kensil, Walton (HC/GM), Steinberg, Kotite (HC/GM), Bradway, Tannenbaum, Idzik and Mccagnan have all been varying degrees of awful. I guess Parcells (HC/GM) was about the best, but even he eventually had his problems.

So you want to bash the Jets for being so awful, but you don't want to view it in context of other teams? I don't understand that.

What can I tell you? It's how I feel. The owners/GMs made their (flawed) decisions based on what they thought would benefit the Jets and lead to the Club's success. I don't believe they were very much concerned (or at all) with the successes/failures of other teams. I feel most of these folks live in a bubble of denial and over-inflated estimation of their management skills. With 50+ years of terrible results and team failure, they must live with the consequences, one of which is criticism from media and fans.

You want to see it differently? Great. That's your prerogative.
