He's a player in his 30s with a degenerative hip...I just hope he's plan c or d and not a day 1 signing...that would seem silly for a team with $50 mill in cap space....

I'd actually try to sign him early - non huge but not rock bottom number.
Signing him lets us negotiate from a better posture with the other CB we sign
And if we strike out on guys on our list above him, there is risk that the market pushes his contract up to an unduly high level - if he is perceived as the last cover CB out there.
Discuss - once allowed - Cro, you have a house here, we want you back, you want to come back, whats a fair number. ...Get the deal done and then find another CB.
well he may be a day 1 signing because of the possible ease of getting a deal done. but if the jets need as much help as at CB as many (including you) think, then i can see them adding cro right away and still adding a younger CB like jackson or maxwell.
for me, i was fine moving on from cro last year. but i guess he proved me (and the jets) wrong with his strong play. i agree with those above that say we shouldn't give him a huge deal, especially given his hip condition which could recur at any point. but a 2 or 3 year deal without a ton of guaranteed money makes a lot of sense if it's the direction bowles and mac want to go. and it wouldn't inhibit us from going after another CB.
Agree
I would get Cro and Lupati signed the first day of FA.
Revis is probably going to re-sign with the Pats for what appears to be a monster contract. That is going to make the other CB's greedy. Cro wants to be here. Don't think he'll play cheap, but will take a fair deal. Can't let what happened last year happen again.
If we sign Cro, Maxwell and/or Jackson are not coming here. Cro can't play nickel at 32 with bad hips...he has to play outside. No way a 26 and 27 year old free agent CB, 2 of the best on the market, sign here knowing they will compete with Milliner to start...it wont happen. if we sign Cro, maxwell and Jackson sign elsewhere as the number 1 or number 1b CB...they wont undervalue themselves in a market where the cap is jumping $24 mill this year for all teams to potentially be a nickel back...wont happen.
Just don't see how signing Cro for 4 million affects any of the other CB's. If anything, it would encourage another CB to sign with the Jets. Just like Peterson is lobbying for Cro to return to the Cards, CB's want another dependable CB opposite them.
Right now Milliner isn't in the equation at all. He is off an Achilles, didn't play real well when he was healthy. Wasn't drafted by the current GM. If they sign Jackson to a big deal he won't be competing with Milliner, Cro will.
These guys will sign with who ever gives them the most money
That seems a bit pessimistic about Milliner. I'm not sure how much you can count on, but he's 7 years younger than Cromartie. Hip injuries are pretty much as bad for CBs as ankle injuries are.
I'd secure one of the two top CBs first, and then consider Cro. But I would not take him above, or before, them.

I don't agree at all. Cro is an aging cb with no ego. And maxwell/Jackson would rather come to a team that doesn't suck. If the other cb is inferior, they will be targeted by opposing qb's, decreasing int opportunities for your number 1 cb. Increasing their leverage by improved stats. If we sign Cro, Maxwell and/or Jackson are not coming here. Cro can't play nickel at 32 with bad hips...he has to play outside. We're not talking about a high ankle sprain here, it's an Achilles. In most cases worst then a knee. For a skill position player that is pretty pessimistic. Certainly not saying that it means his career is over, just that at best an Achilles takes two seasons to get to 100%.
He wasn't playing real well before the injury. He may be on the Pro Bowl team in 2016, but for 2015 you can't COUNT on him for anything

Umm, well, that immediately crosses the jets off the list...dude, the jets suck. maybe we wont next year, but no one knows about next year, so I am 100% sure the free agents look at this 4-12 team as a 4-12 team, aka, they suck.
Also, you think free agents WRs look at the Bears and say, "yes, I'm Torrey Smith and the bears have Jeffrey and marshall, who may be aging but still is going to start, and in my prime I want to sit behind those two until Marshall decides it's time to retire," or he says, "I can go start in Minnesota, play for Norv turner and a young upcoming QB, and make more money?" You think he picks the Bears in this scenario?
Dude, players want to play. No NFL starting CB is coming here to play nickel....you can think that if you want, but reality is, Maxwell is going from starting in Seattle and in the Super Bowl, to having to battle Milliner for a starting spot? Not going to happen. he's signing where he knows he's the man..not where he "might be the man." if you want to think that's possible, that's fine too...I'm just saying reality is, that is not how the scenario would play out.
Credit to him, but honestly those were throw away games with eliminated opponents who were more concerned with not being injured. And coming back from Achilles, he may never be what he was, and won't be 100%for another year according to Dr's.I recall Milliner finishing up very well in 2013, after a rough start. He was thrown into the fire, took his knocks, and played outstanding those final 3-4 games. I'm not counting him out by any means. I think he's gonna be a good one.
But the injury to the Achilles is nonetheless a concern. He has to bounce back from that first.
