EXCLUSIVE: We have just received word that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were tested positive for the coronavirus. Both were down in Australia for the pre-production of Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley film from Warner Bros. In the film, two-time Oscar winner Hanks plays Presley’s longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker.

In a separate statement from Warners, the studio said it became aware that someone in the production was diagnosed with coronavirus, and it is working with Australian health agencies to make sure that the production is safe.

Deadline received a statement directly from Hanks:

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

It is spreading fast, harmless to most, but still spreading fast. I am currently 5 days into a 2 week quarantine. Going fucking stir crazy. I’m an ER nurse and took care of a patient Saturday who turned out to be positive for the virus. No symptoms for me, just precautionary at this point. My job is playing it real safe.

Funny you should mention that. My wife and I went shopping today. I didn't want to go, not because of the virus, I just don't like shopping. Anyway......she was in the store. I sat in the car. While sitting there two of my friends came walking out of the store each carrying (6) 18 roll packages of toilet paper. So........just being me, I asked if they had the runs, to which they replied no they just wanted to pick up some because people were going crazy buying and hoarding it. Tactfully, and with a big grin, I said yeah, I can see that. Red faced and embarrassed they slithered off and got into their vehicles. What the hell's wrong with people these days ? ? ? Anyway, I like Tom Hanks and wish him and Rita a speedy and complete recovery.

As someone who has seen (and experienced) first hand how hard nurses work, thanks for everything you do. Doctors get the credit, but you all do most of the heavy lifting in hospitals. Sorry you are going through the quarantine. Best wishes for you and your family not coming down with COVID-19.

This shit makes me insane. Folks just thinking about themselves and not the needs of others. I was finally able to buy bleach, which I use every week for cleaning and laundry, after being out in my supermarket for two weeks. And good luck trying to buy a thermometer. Amazon, Walgreens, CVS all sold out.
