This signing tells me Lamb or Jeudy may be the pick at 11 with JD thinking we are going to get shut out of the top 4 tackles . Now if he can sign Fowler and a CB this week, my impression will improve
Jets were said to be interested in 11 players, all 11 signed elsewhere and we go after Fant who is a swing tackle better right tackle then left but he wanted a chance to play left tackle and we are giving him that chance with a payday if he fails is ideal to replace Edoga at right tackle... That makes so much Gase sense... If he fails to play either tackle spot we can play him at WR since we only have two of those...
George Fant has Tristan Wirfs measurable stats but is 5 years older...
And like Wirfs, Fant is a right tackle and our beloved knucklehead GM Joe Douglas signs this guy to be what the next Kelvin Beachum left tackle... I will be the first one to admit I was wrong if he pans out but I just don't see it...

We don't know what the plan is for this guy. Our GM is far from a knucklehead - totally disagree on that point. Based on what Ozzie Newsome said about him - he's the real deal and a great evaluator of talent. He must see something in this guy, and they must have a plan for him. Maybe they are going to use him at RT. Maybe he will play LG. Who knows. Maybe he's ready to be a full time LT. We don't know anything about him other than what Cimini and other beat writer idiots wrote, so let's wait and see what happens.

so none of the top lineman wanted to come here. cant blame them. Douglas threw a dart at a board rather then not grab anyone. lets see if the dart sticks in the bullseye. it didnt with our retired center last year. maybe he's due
It wasn't Manish or Cimini that stated he wanted a chance to play LT, and from what I saw there is a gif made by someone that he had one good block against 49ers Bosa but that doesn't deserve 2nd tier money to try to play LT with our franchise QB on the line it isn't time to try someone out... There are reports other than Cimini or Manish that the Jets were not content with Edoga but hoped he can develop into a spot starter...
So striking out because they are low balling free agents (that is all Gase), but you don't hope that a signing will pan out at position he is ranked 62nd in the league of 32 teams... As a right tackle he is ranked 7th, and if that is the case they are giving him M annual to play then okay but from what I read and heard he is replacing Beachum at left tackle...

Its a great strategy. The NFL will be canceled in 2020 anyways so there is no need to have any good players own the roster.
OK. So my take is this:
The positives:
Fant is extremely athletic, and can absolutely handle the speed rush
I love his feet, from what I have seen - LOVE his feet
He is just entering his prime, and is gaining experience playing OT
HOWEVER, I would not put my franchise QB's health at the whim of the HOPE that Fant can be a legit starting LT.
I think he has the skill set of being potentially a very good starting LT. I'd say his skill set is more suited for LT than RT. That said, it is a bigger risk than I would take.

What makes you think that it is all Gase? I recall one instance where Gase has commented on players salaries, and reportedly that was Leveon Bell. Basically said that RBs don't warrant that kind of money. Guess what, if he really said that he was absolutely right. Besides, Douglas was weaned by Newsome, and how often did you see the Ravens breaking the bank for any free agents?
Gase used Maccagnan carelessness of throwing money to players like Trumaine Johnson (okay he got that one right), CJ Mosley and Leveon Bell that those positions should not be receiving that type of money...
to this point players have said in conversations with our GM that Gase was in on the call, not just one but multiple players... guarantee we are being Gased again...
Douglas learned from Newsome, yes he is the next god but the player he drafted in Chicago is being released someone whom many execs thought the Bears reached for Leonard at that pick... not everyone is built to be the guy... ie; Maccagnan, Idzik, Tannebaum all attempted to do right by the team but were influenced by the coaches and it looks like it is happening again...
