just tells you his aptitude for football isn't high...

It really does. He was once associated with a board that was part of our side before JFU formed.

How do these guys get jobs covering football?

first they use their own money to host a blog then someone who needs a writer hires them, then luck of the draw or the inept group of followers they have get them promoted into good situations but they aren't qualified for the actual job...

It would seem there have to be some guys out there with both an education in journalism and actual football knowledge - especially in the NY area. Syracuse is one of the best sports journalism programs in the country.

there are some, but like always they try to push only their idea of what the team should do rather what they could do...

I'm starting to get concerned about stressing character over ability. I wouldn't want Mr. Rogers protecting Sam's blind side. Give me some mean mothas who would do anything to protect him. I'm not saying a Bob StClair, the HOF tackle who was known to bite defensive players, but a mean streak is sometimes a good thing when you're battling in the trenches.

I'm sure character is part of the selection criteria, but not so much that we will be selecting Mother Theresa over someone who can actually do the job.

Funny. When I posted that, I wondered, should I use Mr. Rogers or Mother Theresa.

With Joe Douglas as GM? I don't think you have to worry about him knowing what kind of toughness to look for in a player.

You mistake character as toughness, playing with a mean streak. They are not the same. Do you think Joe Thomas is a high character guy? How good of a left tackle was he? JJ Watt? You think he's not tough? I could go on and on. You want high character guys on your team. I've been saying this on the board for years and years. Getting these guys with off the field issues comes back to bite you sooner or later. It almost always does. Let the Bengals take those players. As soon as we moved away from the Parcells and Mangini built rosters, which were focused on high character guys and eventually led to three AFC Championship appearances, we went downhill. The Jets need to get back to building the team that way. Douglas gets that and I applaud him for it.
