.... and your point is that Revis 'only' negated the other side's star receiver and didn't cover the entire secondary as well? This guy is one of the few bright spots in Jets' history since Namath, a HOF candidate who had his best years here rather than the many we have had who did it elsewhere and then joined the Jets to play out the string. When he is voted in we should celebrate him as one of ours and give him the full honours.
I feel about Revis, the way most guys here feel about Adams. all he did was bitch about his contract, then bitch about is next contract.
then he found a way to play for the enemy and he played a major role in getting them back to winning superbowls after the spygate bowls. then he came back here for big bucks and stunk up the joint

he was also possibly the best cover corner (in his prime) ever..
adams is a box safety who claim to fame was racking up 5 sacks against two horrible OL's in a gregg williams system.. & the whole, "he's so much more then a safety" stuff is such bullshit.. he's essentially been relieved of his safety duties & is just asked to pin his ears back & rush the LOS..
& BTW, what's our record with adams?? how is he an impact player without having any real impact on winning?! SMFH..
kinda like when Revis was here. what did we win? and everyone just avoid throwing to his side of the field once hebecame Revis island so of course the receiving numbers against him would be low if hes only targeted 2 or 3 times a game. and yes I understand thats because of his coverage skills but a good amount of his career there wasnt much throwing in his direction which just exposed the rest of the team
and Revis did nothing but bitch about money. no sooner did he sign a new contract, he was complaing again which is why he was eventually sent away to help belichick get back on track and remind him that defense wins championships

admittedly , my memory is not as good as many of you, but I remember Revis crying about his contract then once he got the money, crying again the next year that it still wasnt enough. most of my memory of him was him complaining. Had we won something while he was here, maybe I would remember differently.

but I hated letting revis go just as I'll hate letting Adams go. we only rarely draft a great player and it sucks when we cant keep them. but, you cant build a team if you spend all your money on 1 guy

Revis held out as a rookie, insisting he be paid the salary of the 10th pick, not the 14th where he was drafted, He got that plus, his contract with incentives made him a top 5 paid player league wide. Not just top 5 corners. Still was not enough,so he held out in 2010, because Al Davis did what Al Davis did, got drunk and overpaid Asomugha $15 mill per year. The jets redid his contract, 11.5 mil per with 32.5 over the first 2 years, with a clause that a holdout would tack 3 additional years at 3 mill per year less. He spent the entire second year threatening a holdout. That clause was the only reason he showed up.
Come 2013 John Idzik was hired, Revis again threatened to hold out, Idzik didn't want the headache and shipped him to Tampa Bay .
He thought he got his mega deal in Tampa $16 mil per year but he had no guarantees, tore his ACL and got cut. Signed with the Pat's for less thinking a ring would guarantee him another mega deal, he suckered the Jets one more time took the money and tried to run away but his knees couldn't carry the weight of the cash he stole, he was the first NFL player to use the media for his holdouts and threats. He was on every sports news show and went to every paper and magazine to publicly complain and to air his grievances. There was no Twitter or IG back then or he would have been on them constantly. Only difference between him and Adam's is Adam's is looking for a long term deal with guaranteed $, Revis didnt care about guaranteed $, he just wanted it all up front
My recollection is that Revis was an incomparable cover corner, which as someone stated above, is substantially more important than a safety, irrespective of how good. I appreciate Jamal Adams as a great player, but I think he has been more of a spoiled, petulant child than DR ever was. Yes, Revis had his contract kerfuffles, but I don't think he threw the hissy fits that Adams has.

I really don't blame guys for trying to get all the money they can, but at some point, enough is enough. how many millions does 1 guy really need? and don't you want to leave some on the table so the team can pay for a few more good players
I have seen many good & great ones but he was by far the best on the field. He was amazing
