Washington ? to change their name?

Gotta agree with Tony here, Washington Redskins is offensive. Washington was a slave owner after all. They should be the FLOYD Redskins after the renamed capital of the USA.
Seriously though, while NFL franchises change their names all the time (New York Titans never looked back) we know that the 'cancel culture' will switch attention to the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Chiefs and then one of the few visible signs in American culture that Native Americans exist will have gone. I can't help thinking that it would have been better for the franchises to pay dues by sponsoring Native American scholarships and having homecoming days in which their adopted tribe could demonstrate traditional skills and sell 'authentic' merch..... but the cancel guys don't do positive.

At least Washington made provisions for his slaves to be freed. The only founding father to do so
They should do what Florida State has done if they really want to keep the theme. Work with a local tribe , celebrate their history, culture and traditions, while making it a mutually beneficial arrangement.
I thought that, trouble is the local tribe are the Pamunkeys and the Washington Pamunkeys doesn't sound right (and possibly vaguely racist to some ears). Given that Snyder is almost certain to give way, Warriors would be my choice. It fits with the fight song and they could retain the marching band, I would also keep the logo but rework it based on the skin tone and appearance of an actual Native American.
I have just finished watching a six hour documentary on Washington, so I'm clued up. Yes he did free his slaves on the death of himself and his wife, but as President he also rotated his household slaves to evade a State law that slaves held in the state for more than six months must be freed. Apparently he also paid slaves to have good teeth extracted to augment his dentures.
The Pamunkeys are just 1 of many, The Piscataway are the largest, Nentego (Nanichoke), Mattaponi, Chickahominy, Monacan, and the Powhatan are some others from the region.The Anacostans were completely killed off. They can use Conoy which incorporates several of those tribes.
I do like and think Washington Red Tails would be an upgrade (note: Haskins is the one that stated as much) but do agree with his idea it would mend a lot of bridges while paying homage to those that deserve it but I digress I doubt Snyder has the balls to do something honorable...
make no mistake, if snyder does change the name, honor will have nothing to do with it..
revenue will..
Why does anyone need to be honored? Why can't they just name it after a god damn animal or bird??

I can hear the announcer now, " the team formerly known as the washington redskins has the ball at the team formally known as the washington redskins 20 yard line 1st and 10"
and the symbol will look good on their helmet. it just can't be black, white, brown, yellow or red.

They can have their own anthem, play it pre game and any time haskins completes a really long pass.
