rather than starting over again from the bottom up we can continue rebuilding around Sam Darnold...

with our new founded draft spot likely 2nd overall we could move down a couple spots and still get arguably the best tackle in the draft in Penei Sewell from Oregon... Yes he is a left tackle but putting him at right would give us the best duo bookend tackles in the league since I can not even remember... If Becton gets hurt we have a backup for the left side but a starter at the right...

Sewell has the skill set to be a dependable edge protector. He is a good athlete with real quickness on the edge. Sewell pops out of his stance, gets his hands into the chest of defenders, and has quick feet to play the typewriter and cut off the edge from speed rushers.

I guess! This of course makes sense and if Darnold with the right coaching can improve than I guess we’re good but CAN HE? I’m not saying that he can’t but he hasn’t shown much at all as of now. Max Kellerman said it on his radio show today that the Jets need a QB that can win or show he can win dispute the Jets organization. Not a QB that needs all the help in the world to win.

I agree with him. Darnold appears to need it all to show he can play well and that isn’t what a third overall pick should be. A third overall pick should be what Newton did when he came in the league or Luck or Manning. Yes these guys were first overall picks but everyone was predicting that Sam should have been the number one pick and Mayfield made the late surge to get it.

So maybe Darnold can grow into being the answer under the right circumstances but why should that have to be the case for a third overall pick? I’m hoping that Justin Fields shows he can be the guy against Clemson in 10 days but if he doesn’t than I’ll be on board with this plan. I’ll have no choice really! This is such a shot to the gut, heart and pride and it stinks to high heaven! Freaking Jets!!!

Yup, you can rebuild, Ive seen it before when you dont have the QB. Takes allot of money starting with making the best Defense in NFL. Then go out and get the best powerful RBs behind big mean O Line with 2 beast TEs signing 1 top 5 WR and drafting the rest. Ravens did it with their average QB and won 1 Super Bowl. Now that QB is on our Jets as a back up and sadly he is better than Darnold even though he is old. So spending money and Joe done a great job stacking draft picks it will take every pick and all the Johnsons money with getting every draft pick right to help Darnold win. Gase might as well stay, then pay Darnold a 6 year 40 mil per year keeping our back up QB to win tough games.

I would never listen to a media person and surely not a boxing one. Kellerman is a dumbshit. The #2 pick is going to get us a great player. I would rather the #1 pick, but the #2 pick is going to be very good to great or its a trade piece.

first off @gastineau the Jets can turn around and be like Sam you have shown promise but not enough to qualify for that 5th year team option what we want to do is decline that 5th year and give you a 2 year extension after the 4 year rookie deal with a contract that is team friendly while incentive based on production you earn... Will Sam do it? I think so... So for the team they can keep the key position of QB affordable...

@jets82 if you haven't been paying attention he has made some whopping throws with better surrounding talent his game will jump off the charts and the offense will take the next step my only gripe is over using Frank Gore... I get the reason why but when they finally added a role for Ty Johnson he hasn't let up producing...

@Old#15 Joe Douglas trenches guy OL - DL... well our DL is pretty good... Foley, Quinnen even up and down play by Franklin-Meyers and Huff... Expect a big return by Phillips next year add maybe one during the draft and hope that Zuniga can develop into something... On the OL we need that other tackle, query on Cameron Clark... Keeping veteran guards in Lewis and Van Roten will be key to add Sewell not to mention open the possibility of drafting a new center...

it is frustrating that whomever steps in preaches rebuild and then three years later another cat steps in and same shit all over again...

Now we can actually allow this good kid, that has talent to be nurtured by adding supporting cast to allow him to take the next step in his development... He came in as one of the top three best QBs in his draft class and can take it like this he hit rock bottom and the only way is up from here... He is New York Wethered so to speak... that should count for something...

at least three teams are going to want to trade up to that number 2...
for the Jets its a win get a couple more picks and get that Tackle and now the OL will start to take shape... Because this Fant business is a joke...

I think the Bengals take Sewell if he is there.

Look as I said early today the future look good depending on the new HC. G has hit on many of the reasons.. lets see what happens maybe Chicago loses this week. (Go Cards). It is too early to panic. Maybe the D man grows like Plunkett did. Maybe our 4th pick is the answer. Do I like Darnold...no....but he is young. Gas two of our Qb s in the past could have won us a sb with the right team & coach. Maybe Vinnie was a third

two words- WE SUCK

OK, that said, with Trevor out of the picture, I want what I have wanted for the past 20 years of watching brady. I want the best o line in football

here's the good news, if we can build the best o line in football over the 4 or 5 years, then brady will come play for us for 10 or 15 years and bring gronk too. then he can also dictate to gase which free agents we should add

screw Trevor. this is a much better plan

maybe they give up the kitchen sink to move up and draft him... But do not think JD will pass on him...
no, he wont. one thing I trust in is Douglas building us a great line. for brady to some day play behind

With 2 picks in the top pf the pile there is no reason not to get Sewell if we are not picking a QB. Him and Becton should help Sam a lot. Of course the "O" line needs more than just those two.

Look not saying you don’t need an o line to succeed but way to many excuses for Darnold
Justin Hebert
Tua
Borrow
Don’t have the best o line in front of them and they make Darnold look like a bust
Yup a bust
Ranked on the bottom for 3 years
Looks like a duck quacks like a duck
He’s not going to even move into the top 1/2 next year
Or I’ll eat shit and bark at the moon if that happens , oh yea and pigs I’ll fly outta my ass
Way too many excuses to save this guy
Move on

out of the young quarterbacks drafted over the last 3 or 4 years and playing right now, are there any who don't seem better than Darnold? I can't name one. and plenty of them are on lousy teams.

Sewell is arguably the most athletic tackle in the draft but he is very raw in technique... there is some mention that may be better as a guard... but at the same time could be better as a right tackle...

there are three other top tackles in this draft that will go in the back half of the first round... 2 left tackles and 1 traditional blind side right tackle...

Sam Cosmi from Texas
Alijah Vera-Tucker from USC
are the two left tackles

Alex Leatherwood from Alabama
is the right tackle who was the blind side guy for now Miami's QB Tua

Just saying with that Seattle pick Leatherwood would be a good pickup

our first pick can be a luxury move... stock pile fall out of the top 5 then either grabbing

Travis Etienne RB/KR Clemson
Ja'Marr Chase WR LSU
Jaylen Waddle WR Alabama
Terrace Marshall Jr. WR LSU
Kyle Pitts TE Florida

Just saying want to improve the offense not just the OL...
We have no clue where Cameron Clark stands
Expect Van Roten back, hopefully Alex Lewis too
Is Connor McGovern the right person at center for the intermediate future?

G I am under the same thinking as you are I do have a question for you. Is our line coach really good not just avg or bad & if not are there any good ones in college or the pros that would be better? I do feel the OLC can make a huge difference on a team.

no off season, no continuity or chemistry was able to be built and injuries piled up quickly because of no off season conditioning program...

Frank Pollack is a good OL coach and can become great with proper associated talent:

meaning

Becton is our left tackle and we know Alex Lewis played above his level associated with Becton...
Van Roten on the right side was better than average, add in a rookie with starting capability having a veteran will excel like Becton did with Lewis...
My only issue is Connor McGovern, his play is uneven but with a better suited foundation can he be that guy IDK...
Did they not want to break in two rookies at the same time reason we have not seen Clark, are they planning to finish season with him seeing no snaps? Again these are questions that won't b answered until they are...

this draft has plenty of potential after we grab that RT...
we can possibly that center in round 2 or 3, or we might have him on the roster now in Efflein?
