Wilson will be the buzz if we end up at #s 2-3.
Just watched some of Wilson in his Bowl game, apparently he did well, but can we spend the #2 pick on a QB from a lesser college? I like telling Cincinnati that if they don't swap picks we will shop Sewell to teams drafting lower, they need him to protect Burrow and there are a lot of other teams looking for a left tackle.

Mock Draft 1/1/2021

Jets Mock
Trades:
  • 2nd. > Trade to Atlanta (Jets Receive 4th(1st), 35th(2nd), 99th(4th) & 4th 2022)
  • 4th > Trade to Detroit (Jets Receive 7th(1st), 73rd(3rd), 104th(4th) & 3rd 2022)
  • 7th > Jets could triple down with Denver or just select Kyle Pitts here at 7, if trade with Denver then take Pitts at 10
  • Jets trade up to 20 with Chicago giving up 4th round pick(pick 99) to move up 8 spots

Mock Draft
7. Jets select Kyle Pitts, TE Florida
20. Jets select Alex Leatherwood, RT Alabama
34. Jets select Jay Tufele, DT, USC
35. Jets select Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU
66. Jets select Jevon Holland, S, Oregon
68. Jets select Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama
73. Jets select Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota
91. Jets select Tedarrell Slaton, NT, Florida
98. Jets select Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State
104. Jets select Jake Ferguson, TE, Wisconsin
130. Jets select Damar Hamlin, S, Pittsburgh
136. Jets select Chase Lucas, CB, Arizona State
162. Jets select Monty Rice, ILB, Georgia
219. Jets select Brandon Ruiz, K, Mississippi State

In this scenario the Jets are building around Sam Darnold giving him a true pass catching tight end and a well rounded tight end that can block, two new receivers to pair with Mims... Also getting another RB while bolstering the right tackle position... Also getting potential to push McGovern at center while giving us security if we need depth, Dickerson gives us that stability.

Improving the core defense by getting someone to pair up with Quinnen at DE in DT Tufele... Foley has been good but drafting depth in Slaton big upside is a must...

Chase Lucas could come in day one and start at nickel if the Jets can not re-sign Brian Poole. Also have Javelin Guidry who can compete for starting reps...

Depending who stays or who goes at middle linebacker getting a physical run defender that can cover on day three would be steal in Rice from UGA...

Safety like corner is a need, so grabbing a ball hawk cover safety in Holland is smart, but also a luxury taking a sure tackling in open space guy from Pittsburgh on day three in Hamlin brings depth...

No I didn't forget we need potential at the kicker position so with final pick, taking Ruiz from Miss State has upside...

There are some good picks here, but, PENEI SEWELL is the best tackle in the upcoming draft. That's not just my opinion. Most evauluators have
him listed as top guy. A couple say he might easily be the next pick after Trevor Lawernce. I don't know about going number 2 but he will go early for sure. I've seen Leatherwood listed as far down as 8. I like the Landon Dickerson pick to compete with McGoverh or for depth as long as his knee is 100% recovered from his surgery and it might be by then or at least pretty close. Building a strong , young, and most of all effective offensive line is my wish list for this team.

PENEI SEWELL is the best tackle
no he is not...
he has the highest potential but he is far from the best tackle in this draft...

I have been saying this for awhile now...
Dane Bruglar also is saying the same...

Sewell, his technique is raw...

Think of Laremy Tunsil when he came out, needed to develop his technique so they kicked him inside to guard...

Sewell won't be drafted until pick 5 Cincinnati...

Pick 1 Lawrence to Jags
Pick 2 we trade to Atlanta and they take Wilson
Pick 3 Miami gets a playmaker in AP POY Devonta Smith pairing him with his former QB Tua
Pick 4 we trade to Detroit who will have choice between Lance and Fields
Pick 5 Cincy could take Sewell here, but they will need to develop him properly
Pick 6 Philly likely go with Ja'Marr Chase to give Hurts a true #1 target
Pick 7 we take a tight end arguably the best TE to go out in the last 3 years

Of course we are all entitled to our opinions and I respect yours. I'll stick to Sewell just the same. He's not as raw as Leatherwood is over aggressive. It will all come out in the wash in the end. The biggest thing is that we fix the "O" line finally and your picks are headed in that direction. That I'm all for.

Yeah, I know. I wouldn't be upset if he wound up a Jet, just wouldn't be my first choice.
Alex Lewis is going to be back being he has 2 years roughly $16 M left on his contract...
either targeting Joe Thuney or Brandon Scherff could be in play but Pat Efflein looks to be an option for the other guard spot...
still don't know what is up with Cameron Clark and where or if he will crack the starting lineup...
McGovern looks like the starter for the next couple years meaning we have time to complete the overhaul of the OL...
drafting a pure right tackle who was blindside for Tua is a major plus... there are two others that I would consider options but both opted out for this year due to the covid outbreak... at least Leatherwood would cement the right side for the next decade, that is or should be the concern right now...

Yes, I knew one game doesn’t say everything but it sure says a lot. If you didn’t watch it or hear about it, OSU crushed Clemson in the college playoffs yesterday and Justin Fields throw 6 TDs for almost 400 yards. Now they get to play against Alabama for the national championship. Now this game was significant because no one really thought OSU would win and Fields would play that well but they did and he did.

This was also a match up of the two projected top QBs (with Fields draft stock slipping a bit) going head to head and Fields stepped up big time. Mind you he did this with sore ribs after a crushing hit he took in the game. That there also shows his toughness. So does this mean that the Jets will reconsider Fields draft stock? Especially if he plays well against Bama and don’t let OSU actually win?

Should they and do we Jets fans now reconsider Fields draft stock, especially if he has another showing like this in the Bama game?

@jets82

we still need to wait to see who Joe Douglas hires, if the new coach wants Darnold then the Jets are in prime position to trade down not once but twice in the top 7 while stockpiling picks for this year and next...

moving down to lets say 7th and getting a player like Kyle Pitts is a win in my book... Not saying they have to trade Chris Herndon but it is on the table if they choose too...

we need one offensive lineman starter at right tackle... finding a competitive center to develop behind McGovern is a plus...

drafting two receivers opens the door to trade Crowder who's contract is movable now after this year and is the former GM's signing...

I like Phillips, Franklin-Myers and crew as depth on the defensive line... it may be time to move on from Anderson and drafting new toys to add with Quinnen and Foley...

I can see Joe Douglas getting good rotational players to develop while fixing the roster rebuild in his second real draft 3rd year with the team...

I originally thought Fields was a better prospect athletically and liked his accuracy than Trevor, but saw a couple stinkers from Fields and jumped off. Now I saw what he is truly capable of. It was the perfect storm for Fields. If Trevor slips to us I'm going to be happy. No matter what the Jets are in a great spot. At worst they get Trevor. He has lost twice in his career so a bad game doesn't concern me. They could even trade the pick for a kings ransom if they thought Darnold was the answer which fans would burn down the facility after tonight. If the Jags take Trevor, I'm happy with Fields. If not, I would trade the pick.

Bottom line, the Jets just became a desirable coaching spot after tonight.

was wondering if anyone would comment on this. trevor saw a lot of pressure last night and looked just like brady under pressure if I can think.back to those couple times brady saw pressure. actually trevor did a little better. Fields threaded some needles.

defense still wins championships

There's a big difference between the competence of those who would apply for the job and those who would be interviewing those applicants and hiring the right one.

The roster could look like this next year:

QB: Sam Darnold, James Morgan
RB: La'Mical Perine, Ty Johnson, Chuba Hubbard
WR: Denzel Mims, Terrace Marshall Jr., Rashod Bateman, Braxton Berrios, Jeff Smith
TE: Kyle Pitts, Jake Ferguson, Chris Herndon
OT: Mekhi Becton, Alex Leatherwood, Conor McDermott/Chuma Edoga
OG: Alex Lewis, Greg Van Roten
OC: Connor McGovern, Landon Dickerson

CB: Bless Austin, Bryce Hall, Javelin Guidry, Chase Lucas, Lamar Jackson, Corey Balletine
FS: Jevon Holland, Ashtyn Davis
SS: Damar Hamlin
MLB: Monty Rice plus?
OLB: Bryce Huff, Frankie Luvu, Jabari Zuniga
DE/DT: Quinnen Williams, Jay Tufele, Franklin Meyers, Kyle Phillips
NT: Foley Folorunso, Tedarell Slaton

of course there players that need to be re-signed or replaced

but on the offensive side adding 2 legit receivers with Mims, a receiving TE in Pitts and well rounded guy in Ferguson would boost the offense with good coaching

on defense getting a ball hawk safety and run defender safety along with a true nose tackle and run defender middle linebacker all in the draft can take the roster to the next level

of course this is on if the team is building around Sam but right now Darnold is the QB and I am mocking as if he is still the future...

Assuming this is strictly from draft and not FA. Adding Robinson, Tuney and/or Scherff would round things out nicely for the offense. Maybe an edge guy instead of one of the OGs would help as well.
