if the Jets are serious about building the OL surrounding Darnold then there is only two interior linemen that need to be targeted and go all in:

LG: Joe Thuney
RG: Brandon Scherff

Jets then can use one of the two 1st round picks on a RT

Can sign a FA Center or draft one but Connor McGovern is a durable acceptable option and if he is surrounded by these upgrades then the OL will be good for a couple of years at least giving time to develop the future interior linemen.

LT: Mekhi Becton LG: Joe Thuney OC: Connor McGovern RG: Brandon Scherff RT: Draft Pick (Alex Leatherwood?)

even Sam would cream his pants to play behind that line. keeping Van Roten or Lewis as the backup swing guard. keeping Efflein as the backup center. keeping McDermott, Edoga as the backup swing tackle is in play.

opens the door to Fant being traded.
opens the door to what to do with Cameron Clark?

Sounds great but who is the Leatherwood kid? What happened to drafting Sowell?

Alabama Right Tackle was blind side for Tua

Legit Right Tackle would give us stability for 10 years easy

In your opinion is he better than Sowell? They keep talking about him like he’s a top five pick and I haven’t heard anything about Leatherwood.

Sewell projects to be a guard at this level not saying he can not develop into starting tackle but is a raw prospect that has a lot to learn. We would be spending a top 5 pick on a project hell no... But Seattle's pick in the early 20s for a blind side tackle that played the right side his entire career at Bama is a steal, opening the door for us to stock pile that top pick and still get a star receiver, tight end or even running back...

Alex Leatherwood is a thick and sturdy base enables him to nail his feet in the ground and anchor when needed.

He has smooth and efficient vertical pass setter that’s able to multitask with repositioning his hands when necessary.

Leatherwood’s first step out of his stance is always aggressive. He possesses a springy pass set and it remains active by gaining ground throughout. During his sets, his hands are up and ready to fire. In the running game, he’s an effective down blocker that gains momentum by using quick gall up techniques to help gain momentum prior to engaging into double teams with guards prior to climbing to the second level.

Penei Sewell is competitive and showcases good length for the perimeter. He has a strong upper body and excellent latch strength in his hands. He is tough, strong and competitive and it is reasonable to consider that he has only scratched the surface of his potential.

There is much room to improve his technique. His upper body strength is ahead of his lower body strength at the moment. He’s had some wasteful movements at times and can stand to improve there to boost his lateral redirect agility. He makes up for it with strength and competitiveness.

That would be an incredible haul in FA and draft for the OL. Leatherwood was considered a first round talent last year but decided to stay in school for another year. A bookend with that kind of talent to pair with 77 would be smart drafting IMHO. However one concern with 3 out of 5 new starters on OL would be continuity, but with the talent of the 3 I'd accept the risk.
One of my disappointments this year is Clark getting no playing time either through injury or illness. My concern is that he might be a disappointment talent-wise as well. My hope is that he used his red shirt year wisely to absorb the pro game and build himself up in the weight room.

I have to admit, I do like Leatherwood. I am wondering what the front office sees in Cam Clark right now. I know he was brought in to perhaps slide inside and groom to be the LG of the future. That makes me wonder if Scherff becomes more the priority, especially if the team allocates more free agent money to other positions.

If I recall, Clark played all 5 OL position at one time or another in college but most recently on the outside at OT. I would focus on Thuney as he is more durable and I believe younger. My only hesitation with former Patriots is their lack of success away from Belichek, Scarneccia and Brady. Just my thoughts.

That is the 1st I have heard that Sewell is projected to Guard. I thought he was a generational LT prospect?

look at Laremy Tunsel drafted to be left tackle but moved to guard to start his career to develop his technique.

moved to left tackle then traded for a haul of picks.

similar here raw prospect that should start his career at guard before moving to tackle if he develops that is.

Trade back, acquire picks, with Seattle’s pick, you can go C Humphrey, at 33 Leatherwood/Cosmi, Schreff(FA)
Bechton- McGovern-Humphrey-Shreff-Leatherwood/Cosmi or whichever RT draft pick.
keep Elfein and Andrews as back ups, Maybe rework Fant’s contract as back up swing tackle, insurance on draft picks. Still let Clarke develop and McGovern as back up C also.
You still have a high #1 pick to play with (WR-OLB/DE), probably another 2nd, after trade down, and two picks in the third round.
