1. Neville Hewitt - Inside Linebacker
Hewitt is an effort guy that is a no nonsense type player. Has the ability in coverage and is a stick punch run defender. Useful on special teams and looks to be one half of the middle linebacker duo that can continue being effective over the middle.
2. Harvey Langi - Inside Linebacker
Langi another effort guy that plays side line to side line with a motor that doesn't stop. Paired up with Hewitt they were controlling the middle of the field while penetrating in the backfield collapsing the pocket. Another sure as sure can be in this league a sure tackler.
3. Brian Poole - Nickel Cornerback
Yes Poole could fetch top money out in free agency but his game fits this roster. A two maybe three year extension and be a focal point and leader for Bryce Hall & Bless Austin. This trio could be dominate for a few years. Not only in coverage his run defense tackling and physical presence from a corner is hard to find.
4. Tarell Basham - Edge Rusher
Basham over Jordan Jenkins is a must keep. His ability with hand in the dirt or standing up. Basham as of late is one of the three players of the game each week. Strip sacks, force fumbles and relentless motor. Basham is not a long term answer but he fills a void with a veteran presence for players like Bryce Huff and Frankie Luvu who have been playing well.
5. Marcus Maye - Strong Safety/Free Safety
Like Brian Poole, Marcus Maye brings a diversity to the secondary. Named team MVP this season for his relentless effort of playing every down the last ten weeks. After Jamal Adams exit, Maye took over and hasn't disappointed. Pass breakups and some ridiculous butt and back interceptions shows effort and fight. Jets need that leader on defense and with a young secondary someone to admire and learn from.
