Get ready to hear a lot of names as the coaching carousel starts spinning. I expect the Jets to cast a wide net in the coaching search and speak to a lot of coaching candidates. Two names that came up in reports on Sunday are interesting.

ESPN reported that teams have inquired about former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. I doubt the Jets would be interested in Meyer or vice versa. It does not feel like a fit to me. I suspect Meyer would want to go someplace where he can have input on who the GM is going to be.

NFL Network mentioned Ravens defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale as a strong candidate. This one makes more sense for the Jets. Joe Douglas has strong ties to the Ravens organization, having worked there for 15 years. Douglas and Martindale overlapped from 2012-14 when Martindale was the linebackers coach. More than that, though, I expect Douglas to lean on longtime Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome for his opinion on coaches and Martindale could get the seal of approval from Newsome. That would carry weight with Douglas.

I would like Arthur Smith. He fixed Tannehill and I think he would help Darnold or whatever QB we have.

I cant think of anyone who would excite me, available or not. that said, anyone involved in the Ravens organization would probably be worth a look.

we can either cry and go home, or we can give Douglas a chance and hope he does the right thing until he does the wrong thing. I choose giving him a chance. I still have somewhat of a good feeling about him

pretty sure no one here wanted Gase when he was hired. we absolutely can't have another hire like that. cant be someone who has failed somewhere else already

well we could use some Urban Renewal around here & as far as douglas & this guy carrying weight with him.....lets hope they both fit in the door. as far as manning third time may be the charm. now the guy that fixed tannehill sounds good to me....results in the nfl baby

My problem with Urban Meyer, if my memory serves me, is that he quits the job a lot and moves around. It seems to me, again if I am recalling correctly, that he retires and comes back a lot because of health issues. I may be wrong about that but I seem to remember that about him. His coaching I believe was respectable though. I'd have to look into that before I gave him an endorsement.
