Wait...wait, wait, wait...who has been saying this since the beginning of time and took him in the top 10 of the fan mock draft contest? But I think he can start day 1 at RT and evolve into a year 2 or 3 LT. This guy can play, ask Fowler.

La'El Collins - T - Player
NFL Network's Mike Mayock has LSU's La'El Collins rated as his No. 1 offensive tackle.
Iowa's Brandon Scherff is Mayock's No. 1 interior lineman. "The reason I have Collins as my No. 1 tackle is because out of the whole group he’s the only one where I bang the table and say: I think I know exactly what I’m getting. I’m getting a starting right tackle that can kick inside and play guard, but I’m getting a starter day one and he’s a body mover. All the other guys have question marks." Most consider Stanford's Andrus Peat the top tackle; he's No. 4 on Mayock's board.

Sean Mannion - QB - Player
TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline reports "more than a dozen teams" rank Oregon State's Sean Mannion the No. 3 quarterback in this year's draft class.
Opinions vary widely on Mannion, as many believe he's the next best thing after Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, while others, including Rotoworld draft guru Josh Norris, don't even think Mannion is worth a late-rounder. Mannion (6-foot-5, 227) has ideal size and played in a pro-style

Marcus Mariota - QB - Player
In a poll of 19 NFL personnel executives asked to identify the top quarterback in this year's draft, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston finished in a near-dead heat.
10-of-19 execs voted Winston as this year's top QB, while Mariota received nine first-place votes. Eight predicted Winston would bust or "disappoint," however, while Mariota was only predicted to bust or disappoint by two personnel men. In the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's points system based on the voting by scouts, Baylor's Bryce Petty finished as this year's No. 3 quarterback, with UCLA's Brett Hundley as the No. 4 and Colorado State's Garrett Grayson as the No. 5.

My ranking has Mariota, the number one pick, Winston the second or third pick, Hundley, late first, early second, Petty mid second, early 3rd, Grayson 3rd, Mannion, 5th or 6th round

i know i'm the michigan slappy here, but i'd stay far away from funchess...at least with a 1st or 2nd round pick. while he's very talented, his work effort sucked. now maybe he matures and the light goes on for him in the pros. but i can definitely see how many think he's a big risk to bust.

I agree..the kid has some talent and some size..but seems like a "ME" guy..doesnt work hard and a primadonna

More draft notes from Tony Pauline.

I’m told if the Detroit Lions target a defensive tackle in round two the player at the top of their list is Xavier Cooper, who they feel is a perfect fit for their system.
– South Carolina tight end Rory Busta Anderson, who’s still suffering from a hamstring strain, had his pro-day on Tuesday. Anderson did not run the forty and ran a partial route tree with no deep outs to protect the hamstring. I’m told he caught the ball well and has built a good amount of intrigue around himself. The Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers were all on hand and have shown a good deal of interest in Anderson.
– Despite a poor forty time and general disappointing workout at the combine I’m told scouts like the film on Jean Sifrin and many teams have stamped him as a late rounder. Both are justified in my opinion. His age is of concern as Sifrin will be 27 years old this season.
– Sources say Andrus Peat won’t get past the St Louis Rams at 10 and could be selected even earlier. New York Giants perhaps?
Tyler Sambrailo was slightly disappointing in the run-up to the draft but teams still like his film and the athleticism he displayed in college. Sambrailo is ranked as a tackle on a lot of boards outside war rooms but I’m told he’ll very likely be drafted as a zone blocking guard for the fall.
– One scenario I’m hearing for the New England Patriots is a trade out of the 32nd pick, something the team has had a lot of success with in the past, and moving down a few slots to select offensive guard AJ Cann. This would fill a big need at guard for the team. I’ve been skeptical of Cann’s movement skills but was told the big offensive lineman, who has been struggling with a calf strain since the end of the season, worked out for several teams on Monday and ran both the short shuttle and 3 cone at the request of coaches. He timed 4.51s in the short shuttle and 7.37s in the 3 cone, both terrific marks. Only two offensive linemen, Jake Fisher and Ali Marpet, ran faster times during the combine.

I've talked to several personnel guys that think Dupree is going to get picked ahead of Beasley and Ray. Bigger/stronger

I hate quotes like this. If "bigger/stronger" translated to "better on the field", then just say he's the better player. And if it didn't, then who really cares?

I'm not saying he's wrong, it just makes me worry about the player . . .

I think it's referring to a player who can come in and be a three down player right away rather than a situational pass rusher. I've read that Bowles thinks the same way about size like Parcells. That he likes bigger players(lb's d-line,etc). In our scheme, players like Ray & Beasley may not be looked upon as being able to anchor against the run.

Six days until the draft, so I'll send you into the weekend with nine nuggets to chew on after a ton of calls made and a lot more to go ...

Albert Breer @AlbertBreer · 2h2 hours ago

1) Changing attitudes towards drugs? LSU CB Jalen Collins is a test case. Had multiple failed tests in college, per sources with 4 teams.

Albert Breer @AlbertBreer · 2h2 hours ago

2) Likelihood now is Marcus Mariota goes 2nd overall. My feeling is Tennessee likes him more than most think. Very well could be a Titan.

Albert Breer @AlbertBreer · 2h2 hours ago

3) Watch DeVante Parker. Some prefer him to Kevin White, bc he’s more pro-ready. Parker is closer to Cooper/White than to the pack at WR.

4) In the teens, there'll be guys drafted who other clubs have much lower grades on. So last 20 picks of 1st round = unpredictable.

Albert Breer @AlbertBreer · 2h2 hours ago

5) Reason for that? Lots of disagreement on rank of players at certain positions (DE, OL, CB). Reason for THAT: More young juniors (20 y.o.)

Albert Breer @AlbertBreer · 2h2 hours ago

6) RB class is outstanding, and that could hurt those guys’ first-round chances, with clubs believing they can get a solid player later.

7) Safest player? Leonard Williams – the one non-QB you hear trade-up buzz on. But “safest” not always best (i.e. Gallery, Curry, etc.)

Albert Breer @AlbertBreer · 2h2 hours ago

8) Cooper could go anywhere 3-6. White/Parker good shot at Top 10. After that at WR? Wide open, and Nelson Agholor could well be next.

9) The crapshoot on the OL is particularly intriguing. Florida OT DJ Humphries took 15 visits, a sign of work lineman-needy teams are doing.

Lot of rumors shaking out Jets want to trade back, acquire more picks, and take Peat OT Stanford. I think we are moving down from 6 to a team trading up for WR.
