Update: Jets picks for 2021 draft

So now the talk is that the Jets should draft this Alabama WR Devonte Smith at number two. This dude is absolutely amazing and a true game changer. He’s an electric kid with abilities all over the place but drafting a 5’10, 170 WR at #2 is too risky for me. Thoughts!!!
I was thinking that as well until I watched his highlights again. He is a freakin' game changer and I would take him at 2 with no hesitation, because I wouldn't want to lose him. He won't last past 5, and if the Dolphins are still sitting at 3, they'd likely grab him to reunite him with Tua. I've seen one scout quoted as calling him literally the best WR he has ever seen. Somebody earlier posted about not seeing him make contested catches in the game; that is because of his incredible route running and ability to get open. But if you are worried about it, watch his highlights and you'll see him make plenty of contested catches.

This guy is a phenom.............but, a WR has not been picked 2nd for about 20 years.
A good QB is a must in today's NFL. For #2, I'd go with a QB (Fields or Zach). I'd trust JD and Saleh with trading the pick too!

still believe trade out of 2 possibly outside the top 8 even top 12 DeVonta Smith will still be there since they consider him the 3rd receiver to come off the board behind Chase & Waddle

Even the way Waddle was limping? I thought they said he had a pin in his ankle after the injury.

prior to the season he was a Heisman candidate, he averages 20 yards per catch, they say he is faster than Tyreke Hill...

he should of never tried to play in the National Championship Game but by the new league year he will be close to 100% with the right conditioning...

Hope he returns to 100% - an incredibly dynamic football player. Exactly the type of WR needed for LaFleur's offense. If we trade down several spots, he might be there and I would take him if healthy. We can grab an OL with either 23 or 34th pick.

.... and then he keeps running out of bounds whenever we play the Patriots until it is discovered that Belichick has installed a giant electromagnet under the stands.

Yeah, I think that is yesterday's news. I think that after his incredible Heisman-winning season and CFP performances, a lot of people now rate him as the best receiver.

nope as of today the same consensus is he is considered the third receiver because of his height and weight is not comparable for the NFL... and at the Senior Bowl decided not to have them measure him or weigh him...

Chase has the size and speed which is desirable to NFL teams...
Waddle is a slot guy, known for his quickness and speed again desirable to NFL teams...

Smith will have to either gain weight or muscle mass to become that guy...

Waddle before Smith was Heisman candidate, then he broke his ankle...
These are not lies there are true statements, by a couple NFL execs... (spoke this past weekend, so not yesterday's news)

Yeah, I saw the same reports myself.

This guy has impressed this week, and might be an interesting late round selection:
Quinn Meinerz, IOL, UW-Whitewater Warhawks
Finally, one small school prospect analysts have been raving about this week is the 320-pound Meinerz, who has mostly been working at the center position. Meinerz has displayed some aggression, nastiness and finishing ability in the running game but also held up well in pass-protection drills. He’s obviously raw but with impressive power and seems to be someone who has benefited from the coaching he’s received this week.

I love Meinerz' mean streak - he plays like he has something to prove, and he does against the "big school" guys.
Waddle VS Smith?
I'd like to see how Waddle's ankle heals before I answer that, but if he's healthy, I'd take him over Smith - seems to have a stronger body that would survive better in the NFL than the slender Smith.

Lions might be off the table to trade up but now that the Eagles have their pawn oh mean head coach and he has his master oh mean QB in Carson Wentz, they might be on the table to trade up to draft a left tackle to protect their prince Wendall...

this is the perfect scenario for the Jets can rape the 6th pick...

Eagles would need to give up the 6th, 2nd round & third round this year along with the first and second round next year to equal the value to move from 6 to 2... Joe Douglas might be respected by the Eagles brass but he now needs to take advantage of that respect...

Jets would be inline to trade down again at 6 possible Denver at 9 or 9ers at 12... I say Denver at 9 get 9th plus second this year and next year...

Jets could likely still be inline to grab Kyle Pitts, or Gregory Rousseau...

Take Rousseau and then use some of that draft assets to move up again .

I think if we draft (in my wish, Zach, or even Fields), we can get something semi-decent for Darnold, wish him the best, and we'll have plenty of draft ammo to build around our #2 pick. I was crazily excited for a few days until reality hit. We'll be mortgaging our future for a luxury such as Watson, who went 4-12 last season. His individual stats were terrific , but unfortunately, I want "Ws".
