Mims Grew Throughout His Rookie NFL Season

The season past was a year of NFL growth for Jets rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims.

Mims learned a little more about coping with an injury — two injuries, actually, as his double hamstring strains kept him out of all of training camp and then, after a short return to practice, for the first six games of the season.

"Mentally, it helped me out a lot," he told Olivia Landis of newyorkjets.com. "It showed me how not to get down when injuries occur, always stay positive. The first time I had my injury, I was down a little bit. Then the second time it really took a lot out of me and I was down for quite a bit.

"But it matured me even more because I know that was part of the game and all I had to do was get healthy and do whatever I can to stay healthy. Then physically, it showed me where I needed to improve at in areas of my body and just what I need to focus on in the future."

Mims also learned to cope with one drought that no pro wideout wants to go through: a season with no touchdowns.

"It'd be lovely to make a touchdown. I haven't had one all year," he explained of his thought process before playing at New England in the season finale. "I don't complain about it, I just try to do my part. Hopefully, I can make a touchdown and help the team win. I just want to do everything I can right."

I feel like JD had himself a solid draft class . especially considering that we got absolutely nothing from Zuniga and Clark and Morgan . While getting little to nothing from Perine

Not sure how that can be a solid draft class when the punter and Becton were the only real contributors. And the punter screwed us and made a game saving TD tackle vs the Rams. Jets might not have beaten the Browns later. Could have been drafting Lawrence and not been talking about trading away all our assets for a QB that we should have drafted in the first place. So to me the draft class was actually not great.

5th round corner who became the starter in the final weeks and played beyond well...
Can not blame limited production from Perine when the head coach ran the old guy into the ground...
Becton arguably the best player from the draft...
Mims flashed big catch ability landing on his ass more times than I can count but he held onto the ball...
Punter was good and did his job no matter how the fans feel...

these players above excelled and because of that JD's first draft was a success in an awkward season...

If Mims can stay on the field next season he will be a stud. He only played in 9 games this year. Henry Ruggs only had 3 more catches in 5 more games.

We disagree because in a year where all off season was thrown out basically and no pre season games, that rookie class didn't embarrass themselves or the team . I give JD a solid B- on his first draft .

This was with two QBs that played like garbage the entire year. Especially Darnold! Pretty empressive I would say.

No matter what, keep Mims and Williams. No matter the uniform, they shall be all-stars.
Keep it green! Jets green!
