Sorry a bit off topic but...
Concerning Herndon, that quote from Mims about coaching, game plans etc. has me thinking. Why did they ignore Mims for long stretches after he started out quickly? Why was Herndon such a basket case for 95% of the year? The kid (Herndon) has a bunch of ability, so why the miserable performance? Was it injuries, some undisclosed off the field issue, or did Gase screw him along with the others? Its almost like Gase was so limited in his flexibility with certain players that if they didn't fit his system, he didn't care. Great coaches find ways to get the most out of what they have on the roster, Gase clearly doesn't fit that mold.

not saying get rid of Herndon he is entering his fourth and final year, he has potential but some competition might bring that potential out and Freiermuth can give us another option... Tight Ends are a plus in this new style offense they are installing...

With Mims and maybe Collins along with Crowder in the slot the explosiveness could be extra special...

In the end if Herndon isn't the guy then we invested in this position for the future this year... Rather not wait to the fourth round for Brevin Jordan from Miami albeit would be an upgrade over Ryan Griffin and Daniel Brown but Freiermuth gives us more...

Freiermuth does sound like a great option, and I agree one who we should explore. You could line up in a two-TE set and have a ton of flexibility particularly if both are assets in the run game. Sounds like paring the PSU TE with Herndon would be a real plus for LaFleur's offense. I still would like a slot guy like Toney or Deebo Samuel in FA who could really give this offense a ton of flexibility.

like Nico Collins is a fourth round option, we could embellish a bit with Seattle's 3rd round pick for a Dazz Newsome has the ability to be a featured slot receiver in the NFL that brings additional value in the return game... Newsome collected 126 catches for 1,702 yards and 16 touchdowns across the last two seasons at North Carolina... He is a good route-runner with excellent separation quickness, has terrific hands, outstanding ball skills, and is a fearless competitor...

Who says we have to use first round picks for top talent when observing this draft the talent at certain positions we can build from the middle rounds... Like these two receivers which give us a better outlook moving forward...

We really need a tackle that can rush the passer, & two DE,,s that can rush we have one for sure now. So we need two more. we need a TE & two WR's. We need fast hard hitting LB's if we have a 4-3 then we need at least one. As far as Db's if we have a great rush we need at least one maybe two. We have been farting around for years with our rush & our OL the rush I don't understand as that IMO is easy to get most years the Ol is tougher IMO

With all of the immediate needs that you list, and there are more like IOL and CB, there is no way we should trade away all of our draft capital for a QB. Hopefully, that craziness will take care of itself and Texans will either hold on to him or make the trade request unrealistic.

BTW - I want to correct an error in an earlier post of mine where I mentioned Deebo Samuel as FA WR option. I meant Curtis Samuel.

What we need: RB, TE, WR, RG, OC, RT, NT, LB, LB, LB, SS

What we should do: OL x 3 WR x 2 DL x 2 LB x 4

What will happen: Who the hell knows...

I would explore it for sure but I agree we do have so many needs look in this order it is JD & the scouts our QB & then our coaching...It is that simple. So the big question is Darnold or one of the bridesmaids this year? If If If If they feel Darnold has any real chance then if it were me I would draft a QB & keep the D man too. Just hope one of the two is it. If they think the D man has given up the ghost...well you all know what I mean here trade him for whatever. It really comes down to is the Dman a dud or the answer.

I tried to picture the D man on that stage on Sunday & I started laughing......I just can't picture it

Lets face it. The person who set Donald back a couple of years was Johnson (not Woody) who thought Gase was Gods gift to the Jets. Keep Donald and either trade down stockpiling future #1's, #2's and #3's. Draft a solid LT, move last years #1 to LG and draft either a RT, RG or C. We need a RB and a #1 WR also. This will help Donald Development. This is assuming we strike out in FA. Defensively, this year add more pieces to the line. This will come in the latter part of Rds #3,#4 & #5. Next year Add your OL, (WR, TE, if needed) LBers, ER, CB's, S's and fill ins with extra picks from trade downs.

Here's a question for you then . How come the lousy Texan front office and HC didn't set Watson . Sam Darnod is exactly what he always has been . A tease, good enough to get you fired but never good enough to take you there . Truth be told, he's no better than Mark Sanchez another guy we traded up to acquire .

Sanchez had a team in front of him. he had a very, very good Offensive Line, Curtis Martin, to name a few on Offense. His Defense Consisted of Darrell Revis, Cromartie, Wilkerson, should I go on or do you want to continue to wear blinders on. He also was not hampered by inadequate GM's or Gase.

Would you trade Conor McGovern to the Steelers for 3rd round this year and draft Quinn Meinerz?

Depends on with which pick. I wouldn't use a very high (first round) on him and he may be taken before their second or third round picks. He rose quickly up the charts after his Senior Bowl performance and workouts, but I'm not sure he is ready to become the captain of the OLine that an NFL center has to be. He had limited experience at the position in college. That (the mental side) is something that will have to be determined in the pre-draft interviews. But he certainly seems to have the physical side down.

he rose from 5th round to mid to late 3rd round...

our 66th pick should be the right spot to grab him...

I wouldn't trade McGovern until right before the pick, just to make sure he's still available.
