Under contract: Ty Johnson, La'Mical Perine, Pete Guerriero

UFA: Frank Gore

RFA: Josh Adams

Game plan: The Jets got burned by a big running-back contract in 2019 (Le'Veon Bell), so you have to believe they won't go down that road again. Many unheralded running backs have thrived in this system, so there's no need for a major investment. The best plan is to draft a potential RB1 to complement Johnson, Perine and Josh Adams (restricted free agent). Speed is very important in the LaFleur's outside zone system. It also requires a fullback, so maybe they try to poach Kyle Juszczyk (49ers). Gore, 37, won't be back and could retire.

Draft after Zach Wilson the best WR,RB ,O Lineman on the board with next 3 picks. Only free agent to consider is top Center and WR to help WR drafted. Center is big to help QB pointing out Defenses to QBs like Darnold and Sanchez didnt understand. Like seeing ghost game.

Gmf, who do you think is best College RBs that Jets can get with 2nd or 3rd over all pick.

Until gmf gets around to answering this I'll take a stab at it........"Travis Etienne" is the one I'd consider seriously.

Etienne is a 1st round prospect, big boards have him going Top 20, I think he will fall to back end maybe 25th pick Jacksonville to pair with Trevor Lawrence...

As for 2nd or 3rd round backs we don't need work horse because if you watched any 49ers football the last couple years they use multiple backs...

We could get another solid back in the fourth round with Demetric Felton from UCLA or Jaret Patterson from Buffalo even Chuba Hubbard from Oklahoma St. -- the first two are more shifty speed but Hubbard is more straight line speed with power...

I think we don't need to draft a running back this year that our backfield is stacked with 3 different styles...

RFA Josh Adams is a straight line power back
Ty Johnson is an elusive speed back
La'Mical Perine is a slashing power back with home run speed

Figure Ty would be featured more on passing downs because he would be considered a dual threat in this offense...
Perine could get the bulk of the carries...
Josh Adams showed innate ability to find the whole and break through for solid gains... Power back that can exploit short down situations...

All three will have to improve their catch ability but they all have the ability to be effective...

If they do have a need to draft someone they could take Felton, he would be considered a number two behind Ty Johnson because of his elusiveness...

I tend to agree here, but, if I was going to draft a RB and Etienne was there when I drafted I'd take him. I would rather they get a really solid fullback to use with our already on the roster guys that you listed. That's what we lack in our running back room.

I haven't completed my full analysis of the prospects and still trying to comprehend the thought process of this new staff... I have concluded the thought process of Joe Douglas... But meshing them all together is a long process...

most mocks have the Jets taking either EDGE or Etienne at 23...

Not opposed to the idea but would rather he fell to 34 than take him at 23...

I really Like Oklahoma RB Stevenson . he cot really soft hands on tape catching the ball out of the backfield . Strong runner with nice quicks for his size .

too many needs elsewhere to go with a RB in the first. Need OL or edge or a cover corner. There are plenty of good RBs to get later
