How much change over will there be on the OL?

Besides Mehki Becton, Connor McGovern and presumably George Fant and newcomer rookie Alijah Vera-Tucker their opportunities and possibly at least one starting job available.

No clear leader, but two names should be in consideration Cameron Clark and the other Tristen Hoge.

Have to wonder where the regimes stands on players like Alex Lewis and GVR whom may not be a good match for the new game plan?

PFAs like Tristen Hoge, Parker Ferguson have just enough ability and experience to be coached up to learn on the fly between 2 veterans while gaining live in game reps that this new eagor staff can sustain teachable moments to develop and build the chemistry and continuity that is required to elevate the offense for success.

Someone like Teton Saltes could stick on the roster to be a future swing tackle with Connor McDermott under contract this season. Dan Feeney can play OG but was really signed to be backup OC. McDermott can also play OG. Have to wonder who are the longshots? Biggest question does or can Chuma Edoga carve out a role for himself?

Questions like this are usually resolved in the pre-season games. And that is why I didn't like reducing the number of those games to play one more regular season game.

I agree here. If nothing else, expand and be able to protect the PS from poaching.

my answer to the question proposed is as much as competition dictates . After the poop show we saw last year, what have we got to loose ?

The competition will definitely dictate who plays. I imagine only 3 slots are safe to start, from center to LT. After that, camp and preseason games will determine who play the right side.

The Right Tackle spot is pretty much Fant's job to lose . That leaves the backup roles at all positions and the starting RG job all up for grabs . Feeney probably has the backup center job and can double as a backup G/C if he doesn't win the RG spot . GVR, Lewis, Clark and the aforementioned Feeney will battle it out for the RG spot .
Looking at that list i wonder why the Jets haven't shown any interest in Trai Turner

Lots of questions still on O Line and still it all starts at Center! Im worried about not having a great Center blocking up the middle whe reading and pointing out defensive sets to QB helping him. Sanchez without Mangold would have his head taken off since he couldnt see an unblocked LBer.

So is Edoga just a backup or will he compete with Fant for Right Tackle?
Oh he will compete because that's what this new regime is all about . Trouble is that kid's a turnstile regardless of the position he plays . Only reason he sticks as far as i an see is due to his versatility .

Vera-Tucker can also play RT if Fant falters. I'm hoping Clark and Hoge can start. The problem I have is at Center,

would of pegged him a possible swing to start with increased role in the middle of the season, coming off the injury he suffered last season.

Center and RT both are concerning. Just hope Defenses that cant come on outside dont decide to come up the middle. Seen it a few times the last couple years.

gmf, you are high on McGovern. I think he's lousy and will be a liability as the season progresses.

I'm really not that worried about McGovern. Is he an elite center? No. But he's ballpark top 10 in the NFL. His adjustment took a bit of time coming to the Jets, but he did improve, even with pretty rough guard play next to him.

I have zero hesitation going with McGovern.

in the covid season McGovern was the bright spot to shitty play from the interior, both guards spots were not only revolving players but allowing pressure in the backfield. From a centers perspective the guards are suppose to help him out not to rely on the guy who snaps the ball to bail both guards crap play. CMG is experienced to direct the line make necessary line adjustments and assist in gap control. I expect either next draft for JD to invest in with a mid round pick to develop a future center. CMG has the goods for now to be better than good in this gameplan until they make a move to continue the OL rebuild.

Just a hunch, I feel McGovern will be a liability. I was right about Osemele (SP) where others had him as another All-Pro. I have gone round after round with Sack about our Offensive Line over the years and most times I was right. I just feel the same way this time about McGovern. We are 2/5 done with our OL, 3/5 to go.

I had expectations for some guys that didn't merit it. More than willing to admit I was wrong on some of them. Kalil I thought would provide an upgrade and a veteran presence at C, and he was a complete bust. I saw Long as an upgrade, though I really wanted Ryan Jensen, who now has a ring. And I was bothered by how little attention Maccagnan paid to the OL in the draft during his time here.

So, yes, I was wrong on some guys. Such is life. I'll be wrong on other guys in the future, too.

Can I ask, what part of McGovern's game is the most concerning? Is it his snapping? Getting to the second level? His reach blocking? Holding off bull rushes? Handling stunts?

Sack, I've had fun with you over the years about our Offensive Line. I want a strong powerful Offensive Line and a Center in the Mangold mold. I don't see McGovern as a leader. I see him as an constant IR and inconsistent player. I wish we good have drafted a good center to build with Wilson.
