So when did they or better yet who was it that has allowed the NFL players to start having college number at any position and why? They need to be FIRED!!! This makes absolutely no sense anymore. You don’t know who the hell is who and what positions or what anymore. What happened to the good ole days?

I noticed about 3-4 years ago they started allowing linebackers to have numbers in the 40’s and I hated that. It just didn’t look right and I thought that the linebackers on our team or any team were safeties. I honestly didn’t realize they were linebackers until they announced that they were and some players I did recognize.

Now you have linebackers with single digit numbers, WRs also. I even saw that the rookie TE for the Atlanta Falcons is wearing #8. When is this shit going to end. Sooner or later there will be QBs with numbers in the 20s, 30s and 40s and kickers and punters with numbers in the 80s and 90s. O and Dlineman with numbers in the teens and 20s?

Maybe we should have all seen this coming when Keyshawn Johnson was drafted and they allowed him to wear the number 19. This probably all started with his dumbass. I can’t really remember WRs before him with numbers that weren’t in the 80s. What happened to those days of LBs having numbers strictly in the 50s and 90s, WRs and TEs in the 80’s, RBs and FBs in the 20s-40s.

Why do older folks hate change ?
Well,
I grew up with the game in the 60s.
Every little change chips away from the integrity and tradition of the game itself .

Compounding over the years we “older folks “that hate change don’t recognize the great game we grew up with .
I could go on and on with everything that has diminished the game but I won’t since younger guys don’t want to hear from boomers anyway .
But I think you got the gist of it .

Well youngster, it’s because it becomes unrecognizable after a certain point! If I’m correct, this started way back when Keyshawn Johnson was drafted, maybe even before then when WRs were wearing numbers not in the 80s. You started seeing them wearing numbers from 10-19. That was different but cool. Not bad, we “ Old people” or people in general could deal with that. It was different and off but still recognizable.

Then I noticed Dallas Clark, TE from the Colts that played with Peyton Manning wearing his number in the 40s. Now he may not have been the first TE to do so but he’s the first I remember and that was cool also. Different but cool!!! I also started really seeing around that time edge rusher or D-ends with numbers in the 50s. That was bearable also, weird but bearable. I also remember seeing a few interior dlinemen with numbers in the 50s.

Now the shit is starting to get weird. Seeing some fat 300-plus pound mafucka with a number in the 50s and not in the 60s, 70s or 90s is getting to much. Now it’s starting to get unrecognizable to me but that was only for the interior dlineman. I remember when Reggie Bush got drafted, he wanted to wear his single digit college number at RB and they wouldn’t allow it, Thank God. Now this, RBs, WRs and TEs with from 1-49 or in the 80s. LBs and DBs with numbers from 1-49.

Sonner or later and it seems like it will be this year, we won’t be able to recognize who is playing what position. What their assignment is or what the hell is going on. It will look like a bunch of players just running around chasing each other. Seems like sooner or later they’ll allow D and Olinemen to have any number they want also. Same with QBs and kickers and punters. It will look just like college football. SMH!!!

We'll explain it to you when you get off our lawns.
Oh, wait, BigMoe and Jets 82 already did. It speaks of the erosion of the discipline and structure of the game.

My other take? The egos of young players who want to stand out rather than be part of a team. I'm all for change, as long as I can see how the change improves a situation. I can't see that in this case.

I agree I'm old school not a fan of player's wide receivers wearing QB numbers.

The 10-19 thing with Keyshawn Johnson was bad enough but still tolerable for me. Now WRs, RBs and TEs with numbers in the single digits. It’s just to damn much!!!

So I’m looking and the Jets vs. Giants preseason game and this exactly what I’m talking about. I’m looking at linebackers, that I thought were safeties, WRs that look like WR but I’m thinking are they converted QBs playing WR, TEs that look like fat QBs and RBs with single digit numbers and I’m asking myself is this college or the NFL? WTF!!!

Guess I just better get used to this and stop complaining huh!!!
