On Wednesday afternoon, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo made headlines with his comments about one rookie quarterback.

During a virtual meeting with reporters, Romo went all-in on New York Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson. In fact, the former Cowboys quarterback thinks Wilson could end up being a top 3-5 quarterback in the entire league.
Romo suggested the former BYU quarterback has what it takes to enter the Patrick Mahomes stratosphere. “He’ll be in the discussion of the top-3 to 5 QBs very quickly. He can make up for a lot of weaknesses,” Romo said today.
Of course, his comments drew plenty of reaction from around social media, with some uneasy with just how sold Romo is on the young quarterback.
This is hardly the first time Romo has made his excitement for the young Jets quarterback known. Just a few weeks ago, he compared Wilson to a Hall of Fame quarterback.
“I think you guys don’t quite know how good this kid is. I think he is super rare,” Romo said earlier this week. “I think he’s like a young Dan Marino.”
To be fair, Wilson has been everything the Jets could have asked for this preseason. The former No. 2 overall pick looked poised and made all the necessary throws to play at an elite level.
And yet, it’s still a bit early to anoint him as the next Patrick Mahomes.
