After an impressive preseason, Jets QB Zach Wilson had a slow start to his first NFL regular-season game in the team's 19-14 loss. Wilson completed 6 of 16 in the first half and threw an interception as the offense totaled 82 yards. But Wilson battled and showed some encouraging signs in the final 30 minutes while throwing for a pair of touchdowns to Corey Davis.

Wilson and the offense crossed midfield twice in the first two quarters, the first time coming after Wilson and Corey Davis connected for a 35-yard catch-and-run that put the offense on their 46-yard line. Three plays later, however, Wilson threw his first NFL interception as Panthers LB Shaq Thompson corralled the rookie's pass intended for TE Ryan Griffin.

The offense found the end zone right before the end of the third quarter as Wilson scrambled right and fired a 22-yard pass to Davis, who was wide open. The rookie signal-caller then kept the ball off a fake handoff for the 2-point conversion to cut the Panthers' lead in half, 16-8.

Trailing by 11 late, Wilson led a 93-yard scoring possession that culminated with a 8-yard rope to Davis. The former Titan had 5 catches for 97 yards Sunday while Wilson finished 20 of 37 for 258 yards with the 2 scores and 1 INT.

Wilson and the Jets may have suffered a big loss on the first TD. LT Mekhi Becton got rolled up and was carted off the field with a knee injury. The Green & White finished with George Fant at LT and Morgan Moses at RT.

Wilson was sacked five times and the Panthers' defense recorded 10 QB hits.

"There are a lot of things involved in protection and we have to get better," first-year head coach Robert Saleh said after the game. "I'm not going to blame the offensive line. There were a lot of breakdowns in the first half, but there were issues with route running, the QB getting rid of the ball and dropped balls."

For his part, Wilson said that while he took the hits, Carolina's defense deserves credit.

"They have good rushers up front," he said. "Our O-line is going to go back and do their thing and make it work."

Zach played a gritty and excellent game. Hung in there while getting his ass handed to him all damn game. We definitely have ourselves a QB. As long as they all build from this correctly, we are definitely on our way to success.

My thoughts and frustrations with the game and team as I'm sure we all will feel the same way:

1. I won't say that the oline sucks just yet but they have to get it together or it's going to be long season all around. Not just for Zach!

2. Dropped passes, there were about 3-4 that were key and obviously made the difference in such a close game. With all the oline issues, the Jets still could have won that game with those 3-4 dropped passes caught.

3. Defense period needs to improve. Run defense was eaten alive all game. The pass rush was pretty much non existent all damn game. A few sacks and Sam would have most likely given that game away.

4. Running game was horrid, WTF!!!

5. Why isn't Denzel Mims being played ALOT MORE during the game. One play that he was probably on the field and he catches a 40 yards pass. The team needs that kind of threat and production out there constantly. What's the problem here!

With all this and the team hung in there and almost pulled it out, not bad. Not bad at all!!!

at the beginning of the game injuries mounted quickly first Jamien Sherwood went out then LaMarcus Joyner was sidelined on defense which through the defensive play calling for the front 7 out the door... Maye calls it for the secondary and even though he played hard from the start seemed like from the trenches we were out of place...

as for the OL it was hot I mean humid and hot out there... 112 degrees on the field and humidity well over 90% and well big guys melt in that weather that are not used to it...

Becton injury was a blessing in disguise after he went out the offense started to gel a bit...

Maybe LaFleur was right he doesn't fit this scheme but it also shows that the O.C. didn't adjust his game plan to incorporate Becton into his run or pass play calling... Becton is good at run blocking maybe he is replacement for GVR moving forward...

I am not satisficed with Fant or Moses long term but who knows they may impress throughout the season...

again this is on LaFleur he wanted to get Elijah Moore more plays and either forgot about Mims or felt Mims didn't deserve it... But after that catch which followed him being the decoy for Berrios' catch shows that he can be on the field and open things for everyone else including the run game that was irrelevant...

to be honest I would have both Corey Davis and Denzel Mims lineup together on the outside then they can mix up the lineup with Tight Ends or Moore/Crowder in the slot so this way we keep the defenses off kilter...

Ty Johnson didn't get the start and when he got carries the play calls were blown up... Run blocks or scheme was not right...

Tevin Coleman should of been the 3rd down back and had both Ty & MC1 rotating in and out especially on early downs...

yes. they looked better without Becton

did anyone ask Saleh were Mims was the whole game? watched the presser and didn't notice if the question was asked. I could have zoned out though

from what they said and what I said our OL are a group of good players that are good in different schemes...

last year Becton was dominate, this year he looks lost but reality he doesn't fit this scheme...
they drafted AVT who fits this scheme...
McGovern is suppose to understand his job making line calls and adjustments...
Greg Van Roten a power blocker did his job and was the best lineman out there today...
George Fant admitted in his failure, but not his fault this scheme works only with continuity with the man next to you and whatever reason he looked like Austin Howard...
Morgan Moses came in and like preseason lined up next to GVR he held down his responsibilities and they worked well together...

I don't like we don't have depth... I like Chuma Edoga but he is the only depth... Don't feel comfortable with Dan Feeney but Feeney isn't going anywhere because they gave him a whopping $3 M guaranteed this year... Guess every team needs a mullet meat head on their roster and he is just that...

if LaFleur doesn't check himself and his ego we know how this will turn out like last year with Gase... Hope Saleh sits down with him and they correct this mess...

As for Mims, he will get more reps moving forward there is no way they can justify his 1 catch for 40 yards and not play him moving forward...
Don't get me wrong Berrios stepped up as the rookie Moore was irrelevant... Maybe next week they place Tevin Coleman inactive and activate Josh Adams to power run against that Patriots defensive front especially no Stephon Gilmore...

. I could have zoned out though
I’m still zoned out
I know it’s one game ( that’s what Aaron Rogers just said)
But I’ve been here before ( too many times)
And it’s feeling very familiar
We’ll see I guess

there is potential there, the players have the talent to succeed but the coaching staff have to put them in those positions to succeed... there was a fight feeling never hang their heads and kept fighting, we never had that with the youngest team in the NFL...

hopefully Saleh doesn't let LaFleur off the hook and be involved in all three phases to make sure these units are ready for the home opener against a divisional rival who also lost week 1...

the totally flat first half did seem very Jet like.

did not expect that.

and Zach took half a seasons worth of hits. and hard hits at that. never seen brady hit that hard in his 25 years. would like to for sure
