The AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans face the winless New York Jets on Sunday, although solidifying their advantage atop the division does not figure to be as simple as it looks on first glance.

After winning their second consecutive game Sunday, 25-16 over the Indianapolis Colts, the Titans (2-1) could be without their top two wideouts in Julio Jones and A.J. Brown. Neither practiced on Wednesday because of hamstring injuries, with reports that Brown could be absent after leaving last Sunday's game early.

Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill still figures to have plenty of pass-catching options against the Jets, even if his two best targets are not available. Tannehill threw three TD passes Sunday and had completions to nine different players, with 11 targeted. But he threw two interceptions as Tennessee overcame three total turnovers.

Four Jets players to watch when the Green & White play their second home game of the season, against the Titans on Sunday:

WR Corey Davis — Davis did a fine enough job in 4 seasons with the Titans to be coveted and signed by the Jets. He is their No. 1 wideout now and although he says the next opponent means nothing, he wouldn't be human if he didn't want to show Tennessee what it lost in free agency. Yet even if the Titans succeed in limiting his opportunities the way the Patriots and Broncos did, he can open it up for the other wideouts — maybe Jamison Crowder, back from his groin injury, maybe Denzel Mims, maybe not the injured Elijah Moore or Jeff Smith, most definitely the versatile Braxton Berrios — to catch some Zach Wilson explosion balls and keep the Jets offense on the MetLife pitch and the Titans offense off it.

RB Ty Johnson — The Jets have started 3 different RBs — Tevin Coleman, Johnson and Michael Carter — in the first 3 games of a season for the first time since 1991, when the starters were Blair Thomas, Brad Baxter and Freeman McNeil with a side of Johnny Hector thrown in. It could be any of the 3 vs. the Titans but we'll say Johnson, who Jets fans may recall had his career high of 104 rush yards on 22 carries and his lone career TD at home vs. the Raiders last year. Whoever takes the lead at RB on Sunday, he'll need to help keep the Jets offense on the field so as to minimize any damage that can be done by the Titans, whose 33:27 average possession time is fourth-best in the NFL.

LB C.J. Mosley — Davis' scouting report on Derrick Henry, not only Tennessee's but the NFL's leading RB going into his third year, says it all: "It doesn't make sense for him to be that big and run like he does." Henry is the only back with 300-plus rush yards through three weeks, on 80 carries at 4.4 yards a pop. He's the reason the Titans have been able to control the clock in their wins over Seattle and Indianapolis. Mosley, with 10 tackles in each of the past two games, is active and finally on pace for his first 100-plus-tackles season as a Jet and the fifth of his career. He, Folorunso Fatukasi, Quincy Williams and the crew will need to flow to the ball and show who the better third-down team is in this one.

DL Quinnen Williams — "Q" got uncurled from his quiet start due to his long, slow foot rehab as he took down Teddy Bridgewater and posted his first 1.5 sacks of the season. A lot is on Williams and his fellow D-linemen this week because not only do they need to team with Mosley to slow down Henry, but if they can do that, then they have to get to Ryan Tannehill. It's certainly possible. Tannehill in 10 starts with the Dolphins vs. the Jets was 5-5 with 12 TD passes, 9 INTs and 22 sacks. With the Titans this year he's thrown 4 TDs to 3 INTs (plus 3 strip-sack lost fumbles) and has been sacked 10 times. Just don't let him scramble — he's averaging 9.1 yards/carry, best among all QBs with at least 10 carries.

Titans giant DLine and giant OLine with a Giant RB in physical game that Titans like to smash opponents with. Titans QB doesnt scare anyone. Jets, will Team fight with pride ? I hope Jets Offense can use up time so Defense isnt tired being on field so long. If Jets can do this and if WRs can catch the dang balls bouncing off their hands with 2 TE sets I think Jets can keep up with Titans. Win? No. Competitive game? Could be if the above happens protecting Zach with 2 TEs sets. Sometimes small RBs like Jets can run around big Defenses...sometimes.

big pressure on the OC - a veteran QB can bail out bad play called - but that's asking too much from a rookie

call me a Pollyanna, but i am seeing this tilt as a glass half full...we are going to get beat, but i think it's the kind of loss that can bring a team together by being in a fight!

yes, they are big.
yes, they play tough.
yes, they are good enough to play that way.

what they don't do is try to fool anyone, and our baby Jets need a good smash mouth game instead of out dueling!

I am so sick of hearing "we have to clean that up", "we have to get better", "we have to communicate"...all may be true.
this game should be all about they came to steal our lunch, and now that you got it, your mouth is hurting too much to eat it, ain't it!

J-E-T-S....JETS, JETS, JETS!!!!!

Titans giant O Line and giant D Lines with a Beast RB who like to beat up physically other teams humiliating their O Line and D Lines driving right through them like a heavy bag. Only chance is a WR steps up and starts catching the footballs thrown. With Zach at QB we always have a chance but he cant do it alone as he has been doing. Makes me pissed off watching O Line jyst quit letting their guy go right past them along with WRs not catching passes that is their job. Do your EFFin job and help our QB over paid ass holes for level of play in games.

Jets will lose, but it will be close. Defense will play big for Jets. GVR will have a big game. He will allow 5 sacks and 9 QB pressures and blame it all on Wilson. Jets lose 20 - 17. Defense returns an interception for TD, Special Teams Blocks a punts and also returns it for a TD. Defense will record 6 sacks 3 interception and 2 fumble recoveries. Wilson plays tuff. No interceptions, but very little time to throw. Running game: No where to run to right side. Left side stacked to stuff the run.

never liked when an OL spoke out against his QB...

yes we know Wilson is a rookie and he will learn not to hold onto the ball so long but when an OL comes out publicly and states that to the media when he knows he sucks and can not give the proper time to the young gun is fucking pathetic and plain bullshit...

the Jets need to get a younger more athletic interior lineman and replace GVR...

Connor McGovern is no better being that he is suppose to make the line calls and adjustments and between him and GVR they are allowing rushers to slip into the pocket pressuring Wilson...

Jets will lose this game and it won't be close, receivers hurt with groin injuries, concussions one from a car accident... Seriously this team every position has problems...

time to reevaluate the roster and offer up some trade possibilities... Jamison Crowder, CJ Mosley and when Marcus Maye comes back these three chips are not long term options at their perspective positions, they are trade chips meant to be dished for draft compensation and young players...

Players like McGovern, Fant and even Moses can fetch some young talent returns... Even GVR can get some kind of day 3 round 7 draft picks, because this roster is horrendous and that is being nice...

could not agree more!!! we are not building a winner around Crowder, Maye, and Mosely (although we might want to stick with him to teach the kids along side him, in front of him and behind him).

but at the end of the season when the trade deadline is getting close. Let's see what team has a Slot receiver need, Safety need, or MLB need for a contender. we might be able to pick up a small fortune them...and it is not likely they are here next year anyway.

@skop players like Del'Shawn Phillips, Corey Davis are the veteran leadership yea I know Phillips is in his third year but he has taken to this playbook like he is a ten year vet and performing like an all pro... Davis on the other hand he has help from Cole and even Berrios to help the receivers and tight ends get on the same page so there is no need for players like Mosley, Maye or Crowder they are taking up roster spots for us to develop bodies to contend for role positions or even starting ones...

Noah Dawkins like Phillips fits this linebacking core better than Mosley even Blake Assman needs to go if he ever comes off IR... BJ Goodson was a good signing so was Quinnen's older brother Quincy but they need to put them in a better rotation to excel... Maybe deal Mosley and get a pick or two and a young player preferably on the OL... We have another young linebacker also a rookie in Camilo Eifler who can join the two draft picks Hamsah Nasirildeen and Jamien Sherwood...

As for receiver I am sorry but Crowder was Covid positive since then has had this groin injury... Dude is wasting space after taking a pay cut... Denzel Mims by default should be on the game day roster but he will be yet again inactive and one of the call ups from practice squad will be Vyncint Smith who will be regulated to special teams...

Corey Davis better not be the focal point of the game plan, I know this is his former team and we are likely not going to have Elijah Moore... So Berrios in the slot with Corey Davis on one side and Keelan Cole as the other outside receiver... Jeff Smith will get some time subbing in for those three guys that will take about 97% of the offensive snaps...

What I hate is at RB it is all about Tevin Coleman like last year all about Frank Gore when are they going to get it we have other Backs on the roster that can soften the defenses up like Josh Adams and La'Mical Perine... But yet again these two will be inactive so the rookie Carter, Ty Johnson who will see 6 total snaps and Coleman get the brunt of the carries...

Favoritism sucks in the NFL, so much talent but so much bias...

i hate RB by committee...nobody gets hot!! give the ball to Carter, and make them chase him, then pound Ty in the 3rd and 4th.

Keelan doesn't contribute, so get Mims in...don't tell me we can't teach him a slant or bubble route. i bet the Panthers, Broncos, and Pats could find a way to get a 6"3" 215 pound speedster the ball.

get Yeboah in the game...for the same reason as Mims. get him time; he's a playmaker.

it is not about committee it is how to deploy them and they do not do it right they are over using Coleman and throwing Carter in...

They need to start Ty Johnson allow him to get the first 10 snaps regardless of outcome... On third downs especially 3rd & 5s that is the time to either throw in Coleman or Carter even Moore in the backfield because the three of them are receiving options as well as ability to carry the ball...

We need to have a physical back active for game days not only for goal line situations but near the end of the half we run it with that power back to really wear down the defense (dline and linebackers) come out the second half and have our athletic backs Ty and MC to take advantage of their rubber legs...

Your taking the words right out of my mouth. This regime drafted these guys and if they were total bust they wouldn't still be on this team. Well, Joe D drafted Mims and this regime drafted Yeboah. You can't tell me that these guys have been playing football all their lives and learned playbooks, schemes and routes for high school and college but they can't learn this one, BULLSHIT!!! You just can't get me to believe these guys can't be true contributors right now. With their size, speed, strength and talent, use them for what they've learned and what they do best so far and let the rest come as they go!

I don't know what you expect the RB's to do. They can't run to the right because McGovern, GVR and Fant cannot open any holes against a 2 man rush. They can't run to the left because Moses and AVT can't open any holes against a stacked Defensive front. You cant blame Moses and AVT, there going against a 4-6 man front. You can't blame GVR, he thinks he is an ALL WORLD RG.

that is why starting Ty is the smart thing because he has speed and has patience while he showed he can lower his pads and run physical... He will give the idiot at OC/play caller a better understanding on those first 10 snaps what type of defense he is facing... More of speed or power is needed throughout the game...

MC is not ready for that, Coleman is not capable of that and if you want to start physical off the bat then put in one of the power backs but they won't employ that...
