Zach definitely has that flare and IT factor

Don't want to make this a comparison thread or a beat up session or thread on Darnold, and I don't want to get to hyped or give to much praise to Zach but you can see it! This past Sunday truly showed the potential Zach has, which is something I didn't see in Sam in three years he was here with us. Is it because of the team Sam had around him and his coaching, maybe so but it just totally different with Zach here. Let your eyes be your guide and you just can't deny it.

The play against the Titans where Zach tells or rather directs Davis to keep going and threw a 50 yard beautiful bomb to him between two defenders was priceless. Keep in mind Zach had to avoid a pass rush and set his feet while directing Davis to keep going. The 40 yard bomb before that, that he throw to Cole while his feet wasn't even set might have been even better. Lastly is the quick response 35-30 yard throw to Cole after he initially fumbled it was perfection also.

Zach potential is on another level and I never saw this coming initially. I'll say it again that I wanted the Jets to draft Fields or at worst, keep Darnold this last year and trade back to build around him or the next QB, if he failed. I trusted in Joe D, Saleh and the rest of the staff but I truly wasn't happy with the draft pick. I didn't know anything about Zach and didn't care much to know. I didn't see how a QB from BYU playing against that competition could compare and be ready for the NFL like Fields or even Darnold playing at USC.

Man was I wrong, Zach is an all out absolute beast. His arm strength, quick release, decision making and playmaking ability can't be denied. It's on a level like a A. Rogers, Mahomes, Elway, S. Young, R. Wilson, J. Kelly and Favre. Now will he be as good or great as these guys, only time will tell but you can see the potential of it in him. This is something that is called that flare and IT factor in these kind of QBs. We are also seeing it in some of the other very young QBs like Prescott, Burrow, Herbert and J. Allen.

Now you have those other kinds of QBs that have/had the flare and IT factor but they are more of the pocket passers. Brady, P. Manning, Marino, Aikman, Moon, Breez, Montana, Big Ben, Rivers and Fouts. Back to Zach, this past Sunday was something special to see. He took control of the game in away that I can't remember seeing a Jets QB doing. Something I think we can all agree Darnold has never done with the Jets and probably not even with the Panthers to this point!

Hopefully Zach can continue to build from this and keep it going!

Only time will tell. I hope he does.
HERE'S THE THING, JUST BECAUSE YOU OR I OR WE CAN SEE IT IN HIM. IT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S THERE OR IT WILL DEVELOP LIKE IT SHOULD. I MEAN, I BELIEVE IT'S THERE BUT WILL IT CONTINUE TO DEVELOP TO WHAT IT POSSIBLY CAN BE? THE HIGHEST EXTENT OF IT? ALL DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH HE WANTS IT, HIS HEALTH AND WHAT THE ORGINIZATION DOES TO SUPPORT HIM. ONLY TIME WILL TELL LIKE YOU SAID!

LOOK AT OTHER QBS THAT APPEARED TO HAVE THAT POTENTIAL BUT IT NEVER REALLY DEVELOPED, NOT TO IT'S FULLEST EXTENT ANYWAY. FOR WHATEVER REASON. JAY CUTLER, CHAD PENNINGTON AND CAM NEWTON. I'M SURE THERE ARE QUITE A FEW MORE.

JoeD has to continue to build around him. We MUST develop a credible running game. When we do the kid will really take off.
Yeah the running game has truly been suspect. Whether RB by committee or them trying to feature one. I thought Ty Johnson could step up and be some where close to our 1,000 yard rusher but maybe not. Then again, he hasn’t really gotten the ball enough to get in that kind of rhythm.

they have their two running backs remember what I said about bias...
FA signing Tevin Coleman
Draft pick Michael Carter
are their guys
Ty Johnson will just have to keep striving he will get his opportunity and when he does he won't give it back...

I don't like to say this but his history is against him Tevin Coleman Injury history...

@jets82, great post. it is hard to say when you're wrong, but you paved the way for me too ;)

I wanted JD to trade back and get multiple firsts and seconds to complete the Oline for Sam.
I thought Sam was in the mold of the pocket greats you cited.

but Zach is on a clearly different talent level.

...and because this is still a rebuild, there is nothing to stop JD from swapping our first for a fortune, and completing the Oline this year; with a more talented QB.

Yeah, this is something that just can’t be denied. You can see it and it just jumps out at you. I saw it in preseason actually and was sorta blown away by it. Zach’s arm strength, quick release, quick decision making and playmaking ability is on another level. He just makes it look so easy. Some people you can just see in them and others you can’t, and I really didn’t see this in Darnold. Well I won’t take the play making ability from Darnold. He definitely does have that and he does have a strong arm. Neither as good as Zach but he does have it. The quick release and decision making ability is where it definitely is and makes a difference in them both. Zach also appears to have that swag and confidence that Darnold doesn’t. That IT factor!

The "It factor" was thrown around all the time during Sanchez's rookie year so, I'm not a big fan of that label. Simply, I hope he improves each week and that the OL doesn't get him killed.

Totally agree! You'd think good runners would be easier to acquire than other skill positions. As good as Marino was, his running game could have been better. I'd take Chris Ivory or Shonn Green type now in a heartbeat.
Zach on Sunday threw like it was his Pro Day.

From all reports his work ethic, and drive are there. It certainly seems that he wants it. I have read all kinds of articles since he was drafted about all the extra time and effort he puts into his craft. 🤞

he can do things that the Alabama Joe Willie could do before the first big injury. Joe always threw the ball effortlessly and was mobile in college.......I don't know another Jet QB to compare Zach to.

The thing that strikes me the most is how fast his teammates embraced him. Tells you a lot about the man before a single regular season down was played. I never felt this hopeful - not for Sanchez nor Sam......there is something special cooking here and I don't think this season is excluded from being competitive.

I liked Chad, but he didn’t have anywhere near the arm talent or athletic talent that Zach has. I remember taking my son to the 41-0 playoff win over Peyton Manning, and feeling that we were on our way. However, the next week the Raiders played press coverage on our receivers, and Chad was exposed. He simply did not have the arm strength to complete the 12-15 yard outs that are a big part of good passing attacks. I remember telling my son after that Raiders game that the Jets would never win the Super Bowl with Chad.
Zach, on the other hand, completes those outs, and longer ones, with an effortless flick of his wrist. He does that as well as any quarterback I have ever seen, and I go back to the days of Johnny Unitas. I just hope that he doesn’t have any serious injuries. I am concerned about the offensive line, especially VanRoten, and about LaFleur’s play calling. Many of his plays take too long to develop, exposing Zach to potential injury. I love that we are going with so many young players, but I wish we had hired a more experienced OC.
