Pats interested in Harvin

Both Cooper & White are better pure outside WR's, they are taller, faster, younger, cheaper, healthier, with no "baggage". It makes no sense to bring Harvin back @ 10.5 million. Lets throw that $$$$ @ other free agents and draft White or Cooper and keep our lucky 4th round pick.

Go Jets...Cyborg
That's why cutting him will save the 4th round draft pick and paying him $10 mil. I'm hoping no one will offer him anymore then $4-5 mil and he does come back to us for that price, $6 mil at most. If not then no problem, he walks and no hard feelings. The Jets drafting Cooper, White or Parker makes either one of these guys the #1 or #2 WR on draft day automatically. Harvin would be a great #3 and Kerley would be a great #4 . Plus you have the rookies from last year who might develop this year and contribute.

Note: Either way the Jets have to use the money for o-linemen, CBs and LBs so spending anymore there $6 mil, $4-5 mil really on Harvin would be ass-a-nine. IMO!

Thanks Percy for being a nice half season rental but we need our 4th round pick and 10 million back. I'm sure we can find an alternative KO returner who won't run every kick from the minus 5-8 yard line back to the 12-15 yard line when kneeling would yield the 20.

I think we might even have the football personnel guy in house who can turn draft picks into good players more often than not. So, once again, nothing personal and good luck in all your future endeavors

I would just sign a WR FA or two trade down with the browns draft dupree in 1st round. Their are plenty of wr's to be signed and we have to use the money.

Jeremy Maclin WR 26 PHI TBD $5,468,750 UFA

Cecil Shorts WR 27 JAC TBD $1,541,845 UFA
Denarius Moore WR 26 OAK TBD $1,478,513 UFA
Kenny Britt WR 26 STL TBD $1,375,000 UFA

Torrey Smith WR 26 BAL TBD $1,078,392 UFA
Brandon Tate WR 27 CIN TBD $1,024,000 UFA

Randall Cobb WR 24 GB TBD $1,021,179 UFA

interesting little note on harvin and the jets ability to cut him and then re-sign him:

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets

It appears the Jets are trying to get Percy Harvin to restructure the four years, $41 million remaining on his contract. The deadline is March 19. If he's on the roster then, the conditional draft pick they owe the Seattle Seahawks goes from a sixth rounder to a fourth rounder. You might be wondering why not circumvent it by cutting him before March 19 and re-signing him at a later date? Per the trade agreement, they'd have to wait until the draft to avoid surrendering the fourth rounder. By then, Harvin almost certainly would be on another team.
If he will almost certainly be on another team by the draft then so be it. See ya Percy because he is not worth $10 mil and a 4th round draft pick.

Barring a drastic upgrade at QB, the WR corps will have to be pretty good to work with a Geno/Mariota/veteran TBD. I have no issue moving on from Harvin, but only if that hole is addressed. Based on the Jets' recent history of struggling to fill WR voids, I don't think it's as easy as it is being made out to be.

Let's not forget, THEY HAVE NO MONEY! Their cap space is nil right now. That will change with Revis, but if they keep him, it will still take up most of the space they have. And they have already deferred as much money as humanly possible. You can only kick the can down the road so far.

They will get linked to EVERY free agent, but they are extremely limited in what they can do.

Doesn't revis have a hugh cap hit this year? I mean how can they ...this seems to be a smoke screen

Harvin is built for their system, short concise patterns. He'd be a nice replacement for Amendola and allow Brady to play 5 more years. This would be a disaster.

i don't think that finding alternative WRs should be that much of a problem for the jets. they have plenty of cap space (even more without harvin) to go after one in free agency (it doesn't need to be a maclin, cobb, torrey smith - perhaps a mid-tier FA) and it is once again a deep WR draft, where at #6 , we have a real good shot at what's looking like 2 elite WRs (or alternatively, can probably get a solid player in the 2nd or even 3rd). just because the prior regime didn't execute well in filling the void last year doesn't mean the current regime will likewise fall short.

i'm sort of indifferent on harvin. i'd bring him back at the right price, but don't need to force the issue. i think with decker, kerley, amaro, a deep WR draft class and a lot of money we HAVE to spend, we can replace him and provide weapons for our QB, whoever that is.

I just don't like the idea of creating holes when there are already a good number of holes on the roster already. Cap room or not, it makes you spend a pick or cap space on that position, if you can even get the right guy in the draft or FA.

understood. although harvin does implicitly cost you a draft pick (loss of the 4th instead of the 6th). i don't think i can justify that without him agreeing to an extension that works for the team. we aren't a year away from winning it all, so taking it year-to-year and paying him $10 mil per year doesn't really make sense, especially at the cost of the 4th round pick.

True, but right now, you have cap space and protection from him if he gets hurt or acts up. You aren't on the hook for any dead money.

Restructure, and you have to guarantee some of that money.

My take has always been to be aggressively pursuing WRs in the first week of free agency, and don't act on Harvin until the deadline. If you find a replacement, cut him before the deadline date. If not, consider restructuring. Harvin can be your backup plan to landing a big-time WR, but you have to be aggressive.

I don't put much stock into the Pats/Harvin rumor. Seems like a receipt for the Jets/Revis talk. Besides, they don't have the money to pull it off.

I'm torn on keeping Harvin. On one hand, I don't want to restructure his deal and give him fully guaranteed money in case he turns into another Holmes. I'd prefer to go year to year with him. However, considering Macc's background, I'm finding it hard to believe that he's going to give up a fourth round pick to keep Harvin around.

Agree again CY.... We must do what's best for us and if we are going WR first RD than we need to cut Harvin and keep our 4th rd pick. If we are going CB/OLB?OL than maybe we keep Harvin... But we can't blow missing on the type of WR's we missed out on last year this year... Who knows what they will do but leading up to the draft this class of Wr is almost as good as last years.... My gut says cut Harvin take White/Parker or Cooper at 6. CB in the 2nd Rd..

Not saying this is true but this my theory. I think Percy Harvin's agent may have leaked this assumption to scare the Jets into keeping him on his current contract. Very well possible a contender may give him an offer, but will a contending team deal with his bad reputation?

:). Pretty easy to say that until he's an annual pro bowler catching 100 balls per season and double digit TDs annually. It just sucks the patriots are so much smarter than us and know what to do with talent.
