Why do we do this to ourselves every time?

More importantly, why are we or continue to be Jets fans in the first place? I find myself asking that of myself, ALL THE DAMN TIME!!!

Anyway, back to the topic question, why do we do this to ourselves every time? Why do we subject ourselves to truly not facing reality of what this organization truly is? Every few years the regime, quarterback and other key players changes and we always have this hope of real success but very rarely do the results pan out to be anything hopeful.

The last time we went through any real success and we truly only had that the first two years in fact, was the Rex Ryan era. Before that, the Herb Edwards era was pretty decent and Eric Mangini wasn’t that bad either. Their Jets teams both made the playoffs once or twice. Of course the Bill Parcells era was a success. Probably the best of them all because they truly had a team that should’ve won the Super Bowl but that didn’t happen either.

Now when I say a success I mean they truly had a believable team and regime that you honestly thought could win a Super Bowl. During the Rex Ryan era, those AFC championship runs I didn’t think that they had a real chance to win the SB and it turns out that they didn’t. We all know the only true successful Jets team was the 1969 Super Bowl winning team.

Anyway, I’m so sick and tired of this organization doing this to us every few years. If not every year in itself. I swear if I had it in me to drop this team and route for someone else or not route for any NFL team period, I would but I just can’t bring myself to doing it. So I’ll ask you again, why do we do this to ourselves every time?

82, I hear you and i have often wondered what my fandom would be like if i started watching pro-football 7 weeks into the 1981-1982 season as opposed to the very first game of the year when i flipped the TV on and the Jets were on.

maybe, at 10 years old in SWFL, on my 13 inch black and white in my bedroom, football would have become "Montana" to me as opposed to "Todd" and i would have been cheering a SB Winner my first year watching pro-football...who knows?

But there was never a choice for me after that season...AND I FOR 1, WOULDN'T HAVE ANY OTHER FUCKIN' WAY!!!

every time we lose, it's going to make that first SB since '69 that much better!
every time we get made fun of, it's going to make that first SB since '69 that much better!
every time some schmuck on ESPN runs the butt fumble, it's going to make that first SB since '69 that much better!
every time Beli-Fuck is heralded as anything more than the pile of shit he is, it's going to make that first SB since '69 that much better!

This last part is going to sting...but the last thing the "kids" on our team need right now is for us to be negative!
So EVERYONE, pick your heads up revel in your JET Fandom!!!

With a rookie CS and rookie QB, wins/loss wise I had ZERO expectations. Now to not even see what resembles an NFL offense is just unacceptable. You expect mistakes, you expect the losses. What you don't expect is the team to look like a JV high school squad that just doesn't belong out on the field.

The 1982 AFC championship game, 14-0 lost to the Dolphins is what got me hooked. I was only 12 years old then. I didn’t even know that NY had a pro football team up until that point. All I ever remember seeing on my black and white small 📺 was the Cowboys, Steelers, Chiefs and Vikings. I don’t know why but that was the first NY NFL team I ever watched play and it was on and poppin from that point on. I realized the Giants was a NY team after watching them play a year or two later but it was all over at that point. I was a Jets fan for life and that has been a very hard thing to do, for almost 40 years now!

I gave up on the Jets many years ago. Occasionally I will get excited. This was not the year to be excited for me. I was excited when we drafted Darnold. I was wrong. I was not excited for Wilson. So far I feel like I was right. Luckily I don't have to watch them play or hear about them every night. I enjoy this forum which is my only real connection to this team. Don't follow anything on twitter. Even my friends don't bother giving me shit because they know I don't care.

Being from Dallas I always hated the Cowboys, but I love Dak so I enjoy watching him play. I used to share a field occasionally with Kyler Murray when I was coaching soccer and I want to move to Arizona when I retire, so I have the Cardinals to root for. Now I don't love them, but maybe I will once I move to that area. If the Jets ever got good, I might get excited, but I know how it will turn out so what's the point.

I learned long time ago not to expect good things with my teams, hope for the best but expect the worst... Enjoy the ride when we win and find other things to do when they are in the shitter...

My teams are famous for struggles over the years:

New York Islanders
New York Mets
New York Jets
New York Knicks

so my life as a fan is eh, but when they succeed my loyalty is rewarded for not wavering my faith and hope in the organizations that they will finally figure it out...

Mets ,Jets, Celtics,Rangers NHL. Why loyal? I dont live in NY State yet seen the Mets and Jets doing the unbelievable in 69 and Celtics also 69. Rangers I watched in late 70s in Alaska when we got cable with MSG and lot of east coast channels from NY and Atlanta areas. I had a great time watching my teams then into the 80s. But Jets 90s on for years up toRex Ryan 2 years I havent liked. Bill Parcels I didnt want giants /Patriots coach come to Jets causing fued with Pats thats gone on since then. Then Pats have screwed Jets Org. That wasnt at fault except hiring Parcel and Belicheck with back stabbing Belli sticking Jets since.

I’m not a hockey fan at all but it’s Jets, Knicks and Liberty strictly for me. Nothing against the Nets but I can’t roll with them and I HATE the Giants (ESPECIALLY) and Bills. When it comes to baseball, I can go with the Yankees or Mets. I tend to root for the Mets a little more because the Yankees have won so much. Obviously I’m not a true baseball fan, Lol!

i grew to become a huge fan of Bird...even as knick fan.

i didn't realize just how special that era was until basketball became unwatchable.
you went from the era that stars "made other people better" to "the man on the team" to 5 guys with the same uniform not playing a shred of sophisticated offense together.

i miss basketball from the 80's. but i'd take the 90's too over this crap.

Depends how old you are. I'd say if you are 49+ you had a pretty fun time with the Islanders 80-83?

Totally agree. Basketball now UNWATCHABLE. Was greatest in the 80's. 70's was great too. Actually started going South with Jordan.

3-point line RUINED the game.
