Honestly, I have never heard them sound better. Instrumentally, they are slamming it home to say the least, cutting edge, just outstanding. As some have opined, Phil has vastly improved since the inception of the tour, really hitting the target and his enthusiasm in conjunction increases as well, which I believe is one attribution to his enhanced vocals. One of many examples is 'Home by the Sea', which is played with such power and intensity, perhaps even unmatched from past year's tours. Mike is just ax handling it tremendously and Tony's keys ring out and play over Nic's wonderful drumming with that great emotion and drama we expect from Mr. Banks. To say Tony delivers on that song and all the rest is an understatement.
Daryl of course (the man who knows all the songs) is brilliant as usual, not missing a step and playing like only he can.
I like the backup singers, they are utilized just right, contributing nicely yet, are not intrusive or marring Phil's output. They are a welcome addition and were a good idea.
And lastly, Nic is doing his father proud. I see Phil watch his son with sheer admiration, knowing he is giving it everything he has. "Like Father, Like Son", from a song we all know and Nic IS, taking us back to a young Phil Collins, yet putting his own touches and interpretations on the back beat. Just a super, super percussionist, I am sure the rest of the band recognizes this and appreciates his work.
So, I proclaim the 'the last domino?' tour a resounding success, with many gigs still remaining. Congrats Genesis, you have proven the naysayers wrong, made your fans deliriously happy and made this tour a monumental and incredible farewell. It will be discussed and talked about, long after the amplifiers have been quieted, for years to come.
