$54.75M in cap space, without cutting Harvin. There is no remaining guaranteed money in Harvin's contract so, I ask, why cut him? He is very a talented player who is only in his mid 20's.
As everyone else said, he isn't worth 10 mil. Let's not forget the fact if the Jets don't cut him, they will have to give Seattle a 4th round draft pick. He didn't prove he was worth a 4th round pick so cut him and they give Seattle a 6th round pick. I'm hoping they cut him and no one signs him for the money he wants. Then the Jets have a shot to sign him for ALOT less. Say $4-5 mil, $6 max. Long shot but a possibility. Either way, Jets need to draft a #1 or strong #2 WR or sign one because Harvin isn't either.

Agree completely except

We can find a better wide receiver for less than that reduced 5M too

Harvin is essentially a KR who specializes in bad opening field position 90 percent of the time

We need to resign Wilkerson 1st, then find

1 - Veteran QB
2 - Back up B list RB
3 - 1 upper echelon (B+/A) WR
4 - a veteran Guard who can start
5 - 1 ILB and 1 OLB
6 - 2 CBs, 1 A list, 1 B list
7 - An A list safety

That's 9 players, including 3 or 4 top notch players ......difficult but possible with the cash we have

Seriously. Projecting the decisions of past administrations on the current one is a very "Same Ol' Jets" move.

Hiring Idzik was a SOJ move, right back to the Kotite ages. Pardon me for being wait an see on Mac after being burned by such a piss poor decision to hire Idzik when I felt we were going in a new direction and not being the SOJ. I'm not being optimistic or pessimistic after being optimistic about our last BS hire.

fair. This is my being patient...pretty sure I was being pessimistic last year when I couldn't wait for both idiots, Rex and Idzik to be fired.

I like Bowles as a hire, Im on the fence on mac (other than Watt, have you been impressed with the Texans recent picks, they went from perenial play-off team to basement dwellers quickly, didnt they - until they got my man O'Brien that is).

I think Bowles is a man who will demand results and professionalism. I respect that about him a lot. Mac is an analytic thinker, I appreciate that about him, and I have liked his press conferences, but Im a show me person. Im not going to stand here with pom poms until you give me something to cheer for. Ill be more optimistic after free agency and the draft like everyone else heading into the season, but for now, im staying neutral.

you really should read my articles on the front page about the texans drafts.

bad coaching has more to do with the picks than anything.

in reality as you will see if you read those 3 part articles you will see they drafted really well.

granted not every pick turned into a superstar or even a pro-bowl player but most are part of the roster still and give them good depth and starters.

Free agency is really heating up. Cap casualties all over the league right now. The more guys out there the better.

Excellent point. Although, technically speaking, cap casualties waived are not part of RFA or UFA at all

Macc didn't have final say in Houston. Rick Smith did. Also, last year, Bill O'brien had a lot of pull as well.

I just wanted to point out to 55 that he can't get down on Macc for players the Texans drafted that he didn't like because he didn't have final say until now. Obviously, the opposite is true as well with the good players they selected.

Can't argue or debate anything your saying. I just feel if the Jets draft or sign a #1 or excellent #2 WR then Harvin and Kerley can be perfect #3 and #4 WRs. Harvin will give us great value in that spot. Maybe numbers like what he did in Minnesota before all his injuries. He'll be worth that money then. Decker is a excellent #2 at best, if we sign or draft another excellent #2 or #1 then it all falls into place. Even Geno can produce decent numbers with a receiving core like that. Add in Amaro, Cumberland, Ivory and another RB and where working with something.

With all this money, if the Jets let go of Damon Harrison, i wouldn't mind spending some cash on Darnell Dockett to make that DL even that mch more terrorizing.

He loved playing for Todd, just saying.

Do you think he would command more than Snacks and is he a better player? I like dockett but I am a believer of if it doesn't need fixing then leave it.

Dockett is above and beyond a better over all player than Harrison. 2 time probowler and IMHO will want to prove he is back to that form this season. Could take $6 mill a year to get him.

After reading that the guy is 34, then i take back what i concede to your opinion. No way i let Snacks go, who is much younger than Darnell. I honestly wouldn't mind him on the team for depth and leadership, but you are 100% correct brother.
