NFL Draft: Jets next week could vault to...

Fuck all this trading back shit. Draft good players and get some studs in FA. Rebuilds don't take this long. Imagine your house being destroyed in a fire or tornado, but every year the contractor just says I traded your new countertops for the chance to get some better countertops and then drops those countertops. At the rate JD is going its going to take 10 years to rebuild. As a fan I'm sick of it. Saying you are going to build through the draft gives him a built in excuse. 5 fuckin' wins in 2 years. Thats not rebuilding. No other shitty Jets GM has been that bad in their first 2 years. The OL that was so important is still terrible with only one true stud. I get it all GM's miss, but JD shouldn't get that leeway. Winning matters.

imagine your home being destroyed in a fire or tornado, and instead of getting granite countertops as the first order of business ( QB, Lockdown CB, Elite DE, #1 WR, and what should be the final piece a Bell Cow RB; these should be 1st's and high 2nd's), you start the re-build with the foundation of the home (LB's, Center, Right Side of the OLine, DT's, TE's, and Safety's...on SB Contenders these are 2nds and 3rds) with the cost of granite countertops spread to areas where you can purchase great to elite materials at the appropriate prices...and you do it all at once so you can put on the granite countertops onto a strong and durable foundation.

a.) totally agree on the OLine Rebuild...that could & should have been completed by now. But he is replacing one spot with high picks one position at a time. Our line, after last year's draft could be Becton-LT...Trey Smith- LG...Josh Myers-C...Wyatt Davis- RG...Chris Darrisaw- RT, all starters (Davis is hurt) and we'd still have #8, #32, and #30. Granted no AVT.

b.) my suggestion gets the foundation at foundational costs, and some of the granite all in one draft with money left over for shiny new fixtures (Free Agents).

WADR, picking up one elite talent for one position in each draft is the very thing that will take 10 years to complete.

Duly noted that a trade like that would never happen again, but the 1990's Cowboys weren't built only on the firsts they received for Walker, but the bounty of foundational players and 2nd and 3rds.

Lastly, we're talking 2nds and 3rds for positions that they come in...no need for stock piling diamonds in the rough nobody else saw in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th.

touché...

i am not married to JD, but i am giving him this FA Signing Period and 2022 Draft.
Here's why (and you might feel a bit better):

1.) we have bigtime dead money coming off the books this year & next...so I think (hope) the nice signings we've made in FA can turn into wins & losses altering signings as opposed to small upgrades over trash.

2.) I get the feeling he has been doing his best impersonation of Billy Bean's "Moneyball" in respect to the latter portion of drafts....we have needed so much that he was selling 3rd and 4ths for later 4ths, 5ths, and 6ths to accumulate QUANTITY seeing if something could stick. Now, he has high rent district draft capital, so instead of 4 to 6's, he has the ability to get 2nd's, 3rd's and early 4th's.

it's a lot easier finding gems in the 2nd and 3rd rather than the late 4 to 6's...especially where we need it.

But WTF do i know...he could pick 4 & 8 getting great pieces, and then continue to play "Moneyball". I got his back one more year, but then i become a critic too.

Titans, Chargers, and Niners are left on their schedule, and they all have to win out to make the playoffs. tough road for the Texans.
then again, we did beat the Rams last year...any given Sunday?

Its great to sign all these All Pro talents in one draft. What happens in 5 years when we have to shell out All Pro money to all these players ( of course with 5 playoff appearances, whose complaining)? Even if we get the #1 pick I doubt if we will get a Kings ransom for the pick. Maybe a 1st this year and next year if we are very lucky.

The rebuild !!!!!!!
I hate that word
Other teams go from last to first in one year
The Jets go from last to last and tell us “oh we know what we’re doing “
“Hang in it’ll get better next year”
Same ole fucking Jets
You need success by year 2 or it's a failure.

year one was actually a success compared to last year if you think about it...
so far doubled our win total...
not sexy but is positive...

JD got a 6 year deal for a reason.

1.) he knew that the books had to get cleaned because of atrocious FA signings. not just because the players didn't live up to advance billing, but because after they left, we had to endure the dead money fiasco.

2.) he had to purge prior GM's players to make room for his.

3.) Adam Gase... ironically, the HC who lobbied for him would never be hired by him if given the choice. JD walked a diplomatic tight rope because of this; i think JD is a decent person, and wished the best for his success as a Jet HC, but knew he was drafting & signing FA's while he was here who would be stalwarts on any team in regards to draftees, and low risk signings in regards to FA's...only the draftees would be in the long term plans, although players like Fant & McGovern are actually working out to varying degrees of success.

4.) Successor to Gase... FINALLY, he gets the chance to rebuild. He picked his coach with a long term plan to bring a new culture.
@gmf1369 is correct. this is the first year.

5.) JD knows this is the Leap Year... this is the year that "his team" has to take the leap forward. It's going to be an exciting off-season because of this.

I meant competing for the playoffs-making the playoffs. But yes, 4-13 is better than 2-14. Want 8-9 wins next season.

There are only 4 players that are really killing our cap next season, i M B, A V-T, CJ M, Z f W. 2 were brought in by Joe D i h. Either way, it'll be tough not to finish next season dfl!

I know what you meant but understand rebuild a roster from the ground up on the first year is more evaluation while adding youth...

this rebuild is unprecedented as far as the Jets are concerned. Don't compare it to past remakes - don't expect past results on those remakes........this is a ground up operation and requires some patience beyond going into 2022 expecting playoffs. we're not there yet, but there should be no excuses for 2023. Anyone thinking this thing is ready to go next year really needs to settle down.

3 of the 4 players you cited are on rookie contracts...2 of those 3 play positions that you draft in the top of the first round if you have the ability to take them...LT- Becton and QB- Wilson. I will concede AVT is a luxury pick at LG where he was taken, but because they are all on a rookie deals, that makes none of them a cap killers.

Mcagganan brought in Bell- Dead Money, Trumaine - Dead Money...just to name a few who come off the books after this year.
We are "stuck" with Mosely's deal until next year, but at least he's a performer...and not a JD signing.

2022's FA period has us in the top 5, because we are getting rid of past mistakes, and because JD filled a roster playing Billy Beane "Money Ball"; not an easy task, because the guys he is signing know they aren't long term solutions, but place holders until we get rid of dead money.

i am not certain if you're being critical of JD's rebuild, but it seems like you are.
IMO, we are almost to a point that fiscal chains are being lifted...and then we will finally get a true sense of JD's abilities as a GM.

it's not just the sooner is better than later fix issue - this is about sustainability and being in a decent/good cap status each year so you can target what the drafts do not reap. Then when you have a large enough nucleus ready to take the 'go for it' step, you can mortgage some future. Problem for Jets historically has been they have mortgaged to reach mediocrity with no upside beyond a short 2 year window. I'm over that repetitive formula and with stability now at HC/GM........dammit I'm taking the lumps to come out equipped to see a 10 year window of competitive football. I'm 54 yrs old - I don't need a reminder of how long it's been - I'm more interested in how many as in successive seasons of competing for the postseason/SB. That's the prize. This GM at least brought the blueprints from two winning organizations (BAL/PHI).

LFG!
