The Jets have signed LB Javin White to the active roster and signed TE Josh Perkins to the practice squad.

White (6-2, 211) joins the team from the Raiders practice squad. He originally signed with Las Vegas as an undrafted free agent out of UNLV in 2020. He played in four games last season and had 4 tackles, appearing in 12 snaps on defense and 44 on special teams. White played in one game this season and took 11 special teams snaps.

Perkins (6-4, 227) was most recently with the 49ers and was cut in August. He first joined the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2016 out of Washington and spent two seasons in Atlanta before joining the Eagles. He played in Philadelphia from 2018-20. He's totaled 17 catches, 196 yards and 2 TDs in 22 games (two starts) in his career.

Another 211 pound LB?
I am not a fan of smallish linebackers. I prefer guys who can fill holes and stop an opponent in his tracks and not be dragged for three yards after contact.

well in terms of speed he will be the second fastest on our defense slightly behind Javelin Guidry...
this is Saleh's defense and what style player he needs and wants...

A Raiders' article says they'll miss him. I realize this is Saleh's defensive philosophy, but I'm still in the "show me" mode on it.

Those days are gone with the advent of TEs who can’t block but run like receivers. These guys are fine as long as they don’t have an issue tackling

I would say Derrick Henry coming at him would be a mismatch. We are known for filling roster spots with practice squad guys. Released in August? Ummm ok.

yes he was a practice squad guy all last year and appeared in 4 games for the Raiders an un drafted free agent who played his ball at UNLV 5 years - one of those tweener S/LB prospects

he will surprise most...

this year he was on IR. He was activated on November 1, then released the next day. We have injuries and players on covid-list he fits our scheme and we need bodies so what is the big deal giving this kid a second chance?

Has potential, was a HS WR, converted to DB for a couple of years before LBer. Should have good coverage skills. Could be a great fit here.

These are old school guys who are accustomed to linebackers who are 6’4” 245-255 lbs . Those Mo Lewis type linebackers were used to handled blocking TEs who weren’t really downfield playmakers. Even the 265 lb TEs of today run like deer .
