Sad news. He had a good life.

Didn't they just do a special on him? Was that because they knew he was dying??
I’ve been hearing about that special for a few months . They were really pushing it. I saw bits and pieces but was busy Christmas Day.
I’ve been saying “how come we don’t hear from Madden anymore?
The news says he died suddenly and unexpected? Who knows ? We never get the truth about anything really.
Very Sad…. I met John Madden once at a car show in Pebble Beach about 15 yrs ago. He was a very nice man. Humble and unassuming. I’m sure he didn’t remember me…. But I sure remember him.
my favorite parts of his broadcasts were the history lessons we were allowed to listen in on when he and Summerall got into discussions.
Same with Vin Scully in baseball...today's play by play, and color commentators either don't have the experiences the old timers did or are afraid to discuss them for fear of litigation.
he was amazing at making you want to learn about the players who came before the players he was covering.

I'm glad i got to watch him as a HC and all those Raiders/Steelers battles........his broadcasting the best- changed the whole business. And of course played Madden since the 90's LEARNING much about football playcalling in the process.
as for his health - Steve Mariucci (longtime friends)said this morning he had lunch scheduled with him next week so this truly appears unexpected/sudden as reported.
