Official Game Thread: Buccaneers at Jets

The Jets squeezed out the win against Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars in Week 16 to give them their first win in four weeks. Rookie Zach Wilson had his best trademark play so far in his short career. He took off on a scramble, resulting in a 52-yard rushing TD. That said, the tackling from the Jaguars’ defense was more than suspect on the play, and the Bucs team they face in Week 17 will not take the same approach on those kind of plays.

The Jets have done some good things this season. Of the teams with a poor record, they’ve shown the most promise in spurts. Their roster is far from where it needs to be, and despite the injuries to the Bucs, they still go into this one a 13-point underdog.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With the division title and accompanying playoff spot already locked in, I can’t help but wonder how many risks the Bucs will take to try and catch the Green Bay Packers for the No. 1 seed. Receiver Mike Evans was placed on the COVID list, but he could clear protocols before the Jets matchup on Sunday. But will Tampa Bay force him back in against the Jets, especially given that hamstring injuries are notoriously fickle?

The Bucs are currently the No. 4 seed. While they could look to better their playoff position over the next two weeks, it doesn’t make sense to force any of their pivotal talents back before the postseason.

Tampa Bay lost Chris Godwin for the season and placed Leonard Fournette on IR. Additionally, they are iffy with Evans. All three guys sustained injuries in the Bucs’ shutout loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 15, and it’s proving problematic.

Tom Brady might run with the second group of pass catchers and pull out wins against the Jets and the Panthers. Nonetheless, that might be more of a problem against a No. 2 or 3 seed in the playoffs.

Jets vs. Buccaneers betting trends

The Jets have had two solid performances in a row, covering both the spread and the over in games against the Jaguars and the Dolphins. While they might not be dominating teams, they’ve been in both games (and got the win against Jacksonville). Considering they’ve only covered five spreads all season, a streak of two is quite an improvement for them.

The Buccaneers have covered in five of their last six, the only odd one out being the goose egg against the New Orleans Saints a couple of weeks back. Tampa is 8-7 against the spread for the season and 7-8 on overs. It’s worth noting they’ve only hit the over once in their last four outings, as things have slowed down for them offensively.

I'm of the mindset that they will field every key player that's healthy this late in the season and not gamble on the chance that an underdog Jets team might get hot. They will want to make sure from here on out.

Might be the last time us Jets fans get to watch the GOAT Tom Brady lace the field against our green and white.

I hope we give him a pounding like never before and a beating that he'll always remember.

The time has finally come. After Sunday? Us Jets fans will be able to put an end to Tom Brady. Forever.

I can't root for an L. Not this Sunday. Not against Brady I can't. Tom's last memory of the Jets, a loss? Heck. One can imagine right? 🤑
Who’s rooting for a loss except maybe TCT, lol . “You play to win the game “ remember. “That’s the great thing about sports” . I simply don’t believe we’ve got a snow balls chance in he double hockey sticks at winning this game. Now let the kids go prove me wrong and start building that culture.

Well, our fun for a week has come to an end. The Jets get destroyed this week and next week too. Both the Bucs and Bills have something to play for. They are fighting for the #1 spot for the playoffs and they will take no enemies. Enjoy it while you can Jets fans!

I’m just hoping Zach plays fairly well in both games and doesn’t regress. As long as we can get that it’s a plus for us.

I want to see our guys continue to grow
avoid doing stupid penalties
growth all I care about
if they make it competitive, don't worry Tom Lady will use the refs to help him get that win

We'll beat TB. I really have a good feeling about this one.
(Can't exactly explain why in tangible terms :giggle:)

I'm rooting for a competitive loss for sure. Beating the Bills would be a big win with meaning. I said in another thread. I just want to see a game where Wilson has 300 yards and multiple TD's with no turnovers. It would be nice if they beat the Bills since its been 2 years since they won a division game. I would be impressed with a game like that from Zach, but if they don't beat the Bills and he plays similar to what I described then that gives me hope. Throwing for 102 yards is not impressive. Not throwing it to the other team was nice, but should be expected. Running for 91 yards was good, but thats not happening vs good teams that care.

They need to beat the Bills
this would show growth, a need within the division and to put the division on notice we are growing as a team
but if we don't win it is how we lost will be the factors of discussion and how can we get this team better to win next year...

Bucs are not particularly healthy on either side of ball and do not cover well ATS.......I expect Jets to keep it watchable.

would REALLY like to see Elijah play to make that happen

Beating TB will be (almost) as impressive as beating Buffalo. I get that most folks, if pressed to choose for one win in the remaning two games, would prefer the Buffalo game - a divisional game, playing against the best team in the AFC East and probably the second best in the AFC.
That said, it would be quite meaningful to beat the reigning Super Bowl winner, vying for top seeding in the NFC, not to mention Tom Bundchen on that side.

That said, Tampa is somewhat banged up (especially on offense) while we are getting some players back, and we do have the Bucs' number historically (for what it's worth), so it should be an intriguing game.

Bottom line, both remaining games will be good gauges for me in setting expectations for Wilson's development and his future potential for becoming "The One" for the Jets.

let's be clear ....beating the hair weave would top beating Buffalo hands down. Plenty of time to deal with Josh Allen in coming years.......I want to beat the punk who tried to copyright 'Tom Terrific' for his own selfish reasons...........F him. I'm thinking quote from Untouchables with DeNiro.........
