Did Zach meet your expectations???

Lots of post draft hype about Wilson being the savior. I know expectations were high, but the fact was the team was poor, injuries were brutal, lots of rookies playing and a unseasoned coaching staff. To me….. Wilson met my expectations. He seems to have the ability to learn and is tougher than I expected. We all know the arm is there….. and he shows great escapability (just needs to quit backing up). The game seemed to slow down for him in the second half of the season, and although his accuracy was questioned, our receivers aren’t very good, especially the reserves, and the OL was average at best . If we can see decent improvement in skill position players next season (and OL), I think Zach will improve. Again…. Overall….. he met my expectations

I'm generally in agreement here. Looking forward to an offseason of physical and mental growth, plus some quality reinforcements around him.

he definitely met my concerns early...
did he improve, yes moderately...
but did he take that step forward, right now answer is no...
does he have potential, answer is yes...
but they are going to have to baby step him through and hope he buys in...

Yes, but he also exceeded my expectations. Sorry, this might be a bit lengthy, but i will try to make it concise.

1.) I expected turnovers...he gave them to us.
2.) I expected up and down execution...he gave that to us.
3.) I expected poor decisions...he gave them to us.
4.) I expected "i want that play back" plays...he gave them to us.
5.) I expected a speed transition to the NFL...he needed it.
6.) I expected head scratching plays...ditto, but i never expected the Steve Sax throws to first.

Where he exceeded my expectations:

1.) He digested the whole offense and the whole field. The OC didn't limit his reads to one side; he was forced to get faster and did.
2.) The Arm Talent aside (when did that become lexicon material), the one thing i read on him was "re-call". he was impressive with this.
3.) He was not hesitant to make throws before receivers made their breaks; some QB's go their whole career w/o this ability.
4.) I didn't expect the turnovers to go away...they did. Should be pointed out, he also got lucky too.
5.) I expected him to scrap the playbook for streetball...when things got really bad for him, he clung to it, and worked his way out.
6.) I heard the bad stuff coming out of BYU...I expected him to throw his line, receivers, coaches under the bus. he didn't come close.
7.) I didn't expect him to trust his receivers after they led the league in drops, but he kept working on delivering on schedule; not always accurately.

context is everything........and understanding the challenges of a sped up NFL game coming from BYU I did expect a decent sized learning curve. That curve was further contaminated by key injuries to supporting cast. Perhaps the most damaging loss occurred before the first snap of season when Greg Knapp was killed. He was to be the voice of reason for both Zach and LaFleur. Result was they were lost for 1/4 of the season and longer for Zach with the injury. By the time he came back his supporting cast was compromised.

The takeaway I have from 2021 is this is a young QB who is and has been a hungry learner. The staff spoke of it early that it was ability to learn and not repeatedly make the same mistakes.....and by and large by season's end that was evident. There is no doubt Zach had to shake off his instincts to be a playmaker at lower levels to play a more disciplined brand of football. I feel he showed the ability to do it and began to thrive near the end. Never have they had a more talented QB since Joe Willie Namath - and with healthy legs you could say he is the more gifted of the two. What Joe had that we want to see Zach develop is the mind game. Joe was a master playcaller -something players today don't get to do, but nonetheless as Zach grows we should see a better grasp of what he knows he can do vs the speed of the NFL.

#1 objective to me is - further develop a trust with his primary receivers. He needs to be comfortable that he knows his guys will be where the ball is going.........

All in all........he passed the test of showing the makings of a franchise QB - further work is needed to grow, but I'm all in. To the AFC East I say...........BUCKLE UP BUTTERCUPS

ie Lamar Jackson

not wanting, but waiting for an injury to him like the ankle...it just takes one to slow the elusiveness, let defender's catch up, and then we all know what's next. He either becomes a QB-QB, or tries to stay a running QB, but the latter will not last. Even Steve Young and Randall gave it up.

I have to say that he exceeded my expectations. I didn’t think much of him and I didn’t want him. He’s tremendously talented and if he can get out of his own head we might be on to something. I said it before and I will say it again. He’s the pretty girl that knows she’s pretty and thinks that’s all she needs .

I expected and hoped for more out of him but I’m pleased with the way he finished the season. Hopefully he picks it up big time next year but being that he’s a Jet…………

you and me both, but when we picked him, i got on board. I am glad that i did; stats aside, he has shown the most upside of his draft class QB mates, IMHO... Mac led in this category, but with a stacked team, he couldn't produce in "Herbert-esque" fashion. I am banking on #2 getting a stacked team, and he will be on par with Herbert and Burrows.

For Me, He got better as the Season rolled along so it was good. I didn't have many expectations going in just wanted to see Him progressing and He did that. Hell the first time I saw Him I was like He looks like a little kid. I thought he was on one of the Little League World Series Teams. LOL.

Aren't you the one who cries and complains when I quote you?

But then you go out of your way to post low blows like that?

Stop it.

Enough is enough.

It’s weird but this kid is growing on me . I just want him to exhibit the kind of enthusiasm that we saw from White and galvanized this team into what I see in my head .
His teammates say all the right things, but their actions say something different . If he can get this team behind him like I saw them behind
Mike White then we will be scary . Like Pennington with arm strength scary .

But minus the accuracy of Pennington.
