I like the year 3 scenario for the team.
Year 1 - finding out what you have/ evaluating talent and establishing a new culture
Year 2 - acquiring more players to fill in the holes/ becoming competitive against every team on the schedule
Year 3 - teaching them how to win.

I hope and pray your right but our usually says different. Hopefully he and you both prove me wrong! I believe in the kid and want the best for and actually thinks he can do it but will he???
