The greatest offseason pickup in Jets history?
Why we won the SB Namath, Snell, Sauer, Turner & Bob Talamini along with Dave Herman.

We had a very good OL but when the Rookie Sam Walton started to stink up the joint we moved Herman from guard to Tackle & Put in Talamini in the LG position. Weeb had wanted him as a backup for our young guards that summer IMO the greatest pickup we ever made & without this move the Jets would never have won the SB.

Why he is not in the hall of fame is amazing to me six times probowl, 3 times all-pro, 3 times AFL Champ, & one time SB champ.

Poor Dave Herman had to play tackle against two top pass rushers in the playoffs.....amazing job I think it was one sack allowed against the colts & Raiders.

Anyone else have anything else to say about this all time guard. He retired after the SB so we had him for one year but what a year it was.

Thank You Mr. Talamini I for one know what you did for the Jets.

In his book about Super Bowl III (Countdown to Super Bowl - the best book on the game) Dave Anderson tells the story of Bob in training camp.
One of the coaches spotted him in shorts and a t shirt, carrying a briefcase.
The coach thought it unusual and asked him to open the briefcase.
Bob had a 6 pack inside.

You know it brings up an interesting point that I am sure I will get slammed on lol Talamini was 6-1 & Herman was also 6-1. Bubba smith was 6-7 was Ike Lassiter 6-5 Herman who played tackle in the two playoff games got under both big men & controlled them both. Talamini was all world yes it is a different day & age But???????

Thread of the month ! Talamini to HOF ! Never thought about that before.

So many unsung heroes on that team that no one talks about like Ralph Baker, Billy Baird, John Elliott, John Schmitt and Al Atkinson

Back then, it took a team to win, not just a star QB. That still holds.

You're right, Joe Willie gets all of the credit for the Jets lone Super Bowl Victory and he was clearly the face of that team, but it was great team whose Coach Weeb Ewbank did an incredible job. What were the Colts, an 18 point favorite? Nobody except the Jets thought they could win.
Don't forget Snell, Maynard, Sauer, Hill, Rasmussen, Biggs, Sample, Beverly and Turner (Jim not Bake). There's obviously a bunch that I'm not mentioning, but what a team.

My late father in law became friends with John down in Florida at the Boca West Country club

He got me a dollar bill signed by John

My closest connection to Joe Willie

My dad also got me a football signed by Jim Turner when he kicked field goals in a parking lot for a bank
My dad was a police officer working the job
Still have the ball but the ink is so faded you can barely read it now

Guess that means getting old and this is all ancient history

I made out a check for a million dollars for you.......but the same thing happened,,,,sorry

My Dad knew Gussie Busch & he got me two signed baseballs from the 1967 Cardinals......same thing the ink faded. I do have his business card signed & a signed picture from Stan the Man. But those baseballs are a sad ending.

I still have my letter from Walt cutting my friend & me from the Jets. **

** We wrote for a tryout & he sent a nice letter back saying not interested lol Just because I was not as fast as Maynard or my hands were not as good as Sauer or could not block as well as lammons....I mean come on. I know I could carry the water as well as the best of them.

BUT I did work for the Yankees for one day off the books &n helped win two world Series for the Twins.....

Now let's talk about Jim Turner. Do me a favor & add up all the points the Jets scored in the three playoff games of 1968 & 1969. Who has the most points scored. Am I right that he is not in the ring of honor??????? maybe even the Hall of fame,
