Should the Jets be in the mix to trade for Alvin Kamara?

If the Saints decided to trade him “post-June-1” they could save over $11.5 million in cap space. For a team that is currently $74 million over the cap, that could create some major flexibility.

The Jets were one of four teams that were listed as “potential buyers” for the talented running back.

Now in most of these kinds of situations, the team that is looking to shed salary is trying to dump a player that is over the hill or overpaid. In this particular situation, Kamara is really good and is being paid like it, however, the Saints still need to create cap space by any means necessary.

While the five-time Pro Bowler has never recorded a 1,000-yard rushing campaign, he has sure made a lot of other big-time plays:

  • 67 combined touchdowns
  • 4,238 rushing yards
  • 373 receptions

There is no other way to put it, Kamara is the modern-day NFL running back. He can run between the tackles, can catch the ball out of the backfield, and can be moved around the offensive formations like a swiss army knife.

To potentially pair one of the game’s best running backs with a young rising stud in Carter would be a dream come true. That 1-2 punch could create a beautiful foundation for this Jets offense to launch from in 2022.

i think it would be a hoot, and play them together.

most of the league ponders how to deploy an attack of 1 Back and 2 TE's.
and we go 2 Backs & 1 TE.

They'd have to improve their offensive line to be able to fully take advantage of his talent.
A lot of things would have to happen first, but it is a consideration.

I agree with this assessment but in truth I don't believe our "O" line is that far away from being good. Basically what we needed mostly was another guard, maybe center, and a couple good tight ends. With him in the line-up we could get by with just one tight end. We have both the money and the picks if JD makes the right moves to take care of that. I believe he would be worth his cost.

I expect us to draft at least 1 OL and 1 TE
I also expect us to sign 1 TE and possible 1 OL
So we could have to RBs like the 1.5 we had this year at any given time so to have 2 would be an upgrade

If we sign a top FA Center to go along with a good RG not named Neal I think it would be a wise trade.

if not mistaken Saints left tackle Armstead his contract voids March 16 making him a free agent, they could be in need of a left tackle - George Fant? just throwing it out there but they are in cap nightmare and could be the reason why Sean Payton stepped down as Head Coach...

I agree. It had to be pretty obvious to him that he wasn't going to have much to work with for the next couple of seasons so why take on the aggravation of starting over.

the organization on whomever comes are going to have to make some tough decisions...
Kamara has a cap hit of $11.5 for next season, but the Saints in general are over the cap by $40 I think...
So cut bait with some voided contracts along moving on from some big contracts without getting draft capitol but a spot starter until they can successfully build out their roster might be in the cards for them and for us we win, get a talent like that to split the carries in the backfield... Not saying Kamara is that guy, but it is an option... Like it or Not!

It's probably obvious that I'd like it. With him in the line-up it's like having an additional game changing TE.

What type of trade value does Kamara have?

And/or what type of assets would a team be expected to give up in order to receive his availability?

These are the questions I'd first need answered before being able to give an honest assessment (on a yes or no).
understand if they are unloading him the return won't be much because it comes with a hefty cap number for the new team, i say a 4th should be enough but honestly I wouldn't make a deal to acquire him -- Saqoun Barkley on the other hand would attempt to do it as he brings a different aspect to the table

4th round gamble I'd be willing to trade away.

Too much money cap wise $11 Million for 2022 then goes up every year, yes there is a chance to restructure but seriously not worth it
Trading for Barkley who is under his 5th year at $7 M will seek new contract, yes but grew up a Jets fan possible home town discount and make his contract incentive laden based with a solid guarantee within the contract

a great offensive line makes an average running back really good. I wouldn't give up or spend a ton on a runningback any more. most of these guys that leave a good team with a good offensive line and go to a team with a lessor line don't live up to expectations

All kidding aside, I wouldn't do it. Too much to do elsewhere at foundational spots to spend spend valuable cap space on a luxury piece like Kamara. Don't get me wrong, I really like the former VOL but not now for this team.
