i whole heartedly agree with you, but the gist of my post was that it wasn't "the flash" that he showed off last year; it was being a nerdy book worm that caught my attention.
On a side note: Matthew Stafford isn't young. But he isn't old. He's only 33 years old and now in the Super Bowl while coming off of an MVP type of season (statistically speaking).
Playoffs:
3-0 overall.
72/100 (72.0%).
6 TDs/1 INT (+ 2 rushing TDs).
QB Rating of 123.9.
And what's even moreimpressive is how he single handedly turned Cooper Kupp into an NFL legend because his 145 receptions, 1,947 receiving yards and 16 TD receptions while becoming the 1st and only NFL WR with over 2,000+ receiving yards during a single season (regular season + postseason combined) came from out of absolutely nowhere.

Matthew Stafford.
That is no coincidence and Matthew Stafford is the common denominator.
Matthew Stafford (unlike Baker Mayfield) also single handedly unlocked OBJ and helped turn Odell Beckham Jr. into an absolute monster again.
I think this is Matthew Stafford's year and he could become the next John Elway as a former #1 overall pick (who never quit) and ends up winning Multiple SBs.
I don't believe/think/feel any QB list mentioning Superstar QBs is valid (without mentioning the name of Matthew Stafford).
Before Burrow got hurt, you could tell he was a FQB even without Chase. I never got that feeling once from Wilson this year. I saw positive plays, but never thought oh yeah we got our guy. I was left with way more questions than answers.
I initially liked your post until I read the entire thing. Burrow you can last year is a franchise guy but I disagree totally about Zach. He’s shown flashes of being that dude. He just needs to learn the game more, play more under control and of course get better weapons and protection.

I would never expect you to agree with one of my posts, but I saw a QB decrease his turnovers while still bouncing passes to RB's. He is all we have at the moment. We all have hope while some have more than others. The newest excuse for Wilson is that he is not 25 years old. Give him all the weapons we can because we should build this team for Wilson or whatever QB replaces him if he fails to develop.

after the 2nd Miami game, the worm burners were gone. the only time he threw a pass that skipped to a receiver was to Jeff Smith, who lined up in the wrong post, then ran the wrong route, and was blanketed by the time #2 could pass it to him; he intentionally killed the play.
you do make a good point about weapons for Zach. the thing the Zach Optimists are seeing is that he is truly committed to the offense so when these weapons come on board, he can be more assertive within it with receivers who can actually catch.

YOUR RIGHT, 9 times out of 10, I WILL NEVER AGREE WITH ANY OF YOUR POST! However, Burrow did show outright and distinct signs of being a franchise QB his rookie year. So did J. Herbert, Cam Newton, D. Marino, D. Watson, R. Wilson and a few others.
Than again, other franchise QBs struggled their first year or outright looked like garbage: J. Elway, T. Aikman, P. Manning, E. Manning, D. Breez, J. Allen and many more. So if all these guys can do it so can Wilson. Then you have the garbage ass QBs that never panned out like your boy Darnold!
for me it's simple.....I've never seen a more talented rookie Jet QB.....this kid is a difference maker who didn't have the advantage of playing on a big time college team or versus big time competition. His road was going to be longer than Burrow or Herbert or even Mac Jones. look at trey Lance, he has an even longer road than Zach and there is already talk he might not be ready next year.
What impressed me the most about Zach is what was advertised - his ability to learn from mistakes. What we saw at the end was a much better QB with much worse weapons.......which kept the stats down.......but he took care of the ball.....and I can't stress strong enough how vital that is and will be. The field is opening up to him and he knows the danger zones much better now. The rate of progression in that area was astounding given his beginning - the injury/time missed - the loss of weapons. I don't remember the last time a bad season ended and I wanted it to go on.......I came into season expecting him needing to grow a lot. loved watching his growth as a QB. I expect bigger things next year.
Don't sleep on how well this kid processes his reads.......and with that arm/elusiveness.......great things are ahead.

1.) I never took into consideration the big time competition factor, but that also means the teammate factor too. what he played against and was surrounded with had a longer learning curve built in...Great Point!!
2.) "The field is opening up to him"... yup...as opposed to purely game managers who do not even look for chunk plays because they are more concerned with a gain rather than a massive gain. This aspect is where i think he leap frogs Mac.
I'd also like to add that Steve Young (BYU) struggled so bad during his first two NFL years to the point where Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans still to this day (rock his jersey down here in TB) and wish their Buccaneers Front Office would've never quit on him. How stupid can one be, to quit on a young Steve Young?
And I'd also like to add that...
Joe Montana.
Brett Favre.
Steve McNair.
Tom Brady.
Drew Brees.
Philip Rivers.
Aaron Rodgers.
Patrick Mahomes.
None of these QBs were even good enough to start as Rookies and/or they weren't thrown into the fire on an absolute crap team (as was Zach Wilson) and sat the bench during their Rookie seasons (unlike Zach Wilson).
I love the Sam Darnold mention. Because as an intelligent Football fan with an IQ for sports I couldn't care less how my QB looks during his 1st two years (when thrown into the fire on a crap team that's coming off of a crap 2-14 season with a brand new coaching staff) because it's all about QB years 3 and 4 for me as a fan. Years 3 & 4 are when I judge my QBs overall development and progress and then and only then; will I make my final decision on their overall true potential and max abilities/leadership moving forward.
Sam Darnold years 3 & 4(combined). • 6-17 overall (.260%).
• 460/770 (59.7%). • 4,735 yards ( only 205 per game).
• 18 TDs/24 INTs.
• 29 Fumbles. • QB Rating of 72.3 (even Tim Tebow's QBR = 75.3)
My final conclusion (4 years later) is that Sam Darnold needs...
WR 1: Jerry Rice.
WR 2: Randy Moss.
Slot: Wayne Chrebet.
WR 4: Terrell Owens.
WR 5: Ja'Marr Chase.
LT: Anthony Muñoz.
LG: Larry Allen.
C: Kevin Mawae.
RG: Bruce Matthews.
RT: Michael Oher.
TE 1: Tony Gonzalez.
TE 2: Antonio Gates.
FB: Mike Alstott.
RB: #20 Barry Sanders.
Just to look competent as a backup QB (@ best).
In all seriousness I'm excited to see Zach Wilson surrounded by a much improved Offense come his 2nd season next year but it's his 3rd and 4th years that I'm most fired up about. Because I think he'll emerge as Josh Allen emerged during Josh Allen's 3rd and 4th years (because Zach Wilson is just as talented as Josh Allen is).
a.) i liked the way you are looking forward to seeing Zach surrounded by players who will hopefully end up being like the list of players Sam needed to be a decent back up. but Sam goes to a dumpster fire, the fire gets worse each year, and he is the most definitely the cause.
b.) i like the way you eliminated Sam's first and second year stats; you know, the ones with ascending stats, and used the 3 and 4 year stats to veil your jabs at Sam supporters while "promoting Zach" (which was a very small portion of your post).
I hope Carolina gets a plan B at RB, they get a plan A at WR realizing Robbie is their B or even C, they get a plan A at TE, and they fortify their line.
I, personally, hope Sam's day isn't done. i would hate to see a really good kid get thrown into a fire, and have his career ended by PTSD; and that is not hyperbole. There are a ton of really good QB's who got shell shocked by being on bad teams, and couldn't recover after taking beatings; they just couldn't make it through progressions w/o "chucking and ducking".
I Beg Of You...please don't reply with page full of meaningless stats nobody cares about!!!

That truly shows your ignorance because I'm right 1 out of 10 times and you are missing some pure gold. Unlike Darnold, all those QB's were given weapons and coaches for them to succeed. Darnold has never had that at any level of his career. Hopefully JD doesnt make that mistake with Wilson. It doesn't seem like he will. Whether he understands what talent is needed is still up for debate. He has this year and next to fix his mistakes and get this team close to playoff caliber. Then again Darnold is not on the Jets anymore. People need to move on. I know I'm not the one that brings him up and he has nothing to do with Wilson.
I used his 3rd and 4th year statistics because it's all about progression for me as a QB evaluator.
But since when did Sam Darnold have "ascending stats" during his 1st and 2nd years? His statistics were pretty mediocre.
Sam Darnold's 1st and 2nd years (combined):
26 games.
11-15 overall.
512/855 (59.9%).
5,889 Passing Yards (only 226.5 yards per game).
36 TDs/28 INTs.
16 Fumbles (5 fumbles lost).
33 Turnovers.
QB Rating of only 81.1.
Those stats weren't astounding imo they were numbers of an INT machine, fumbling monster and turnover prone QB (same as his High School and USC career).
But you know what man? I couldn't care less about his 1st two NFL years because I'm all about years 3 and 4 due to experience and progression and year #3 is why Sam Darnold is no longer a Jet and his year #4 is why Carolina is already looking for another QB (not even 1 full year later) after they wasted their 2nd round and 4th round picks on him.
Sam Darnold year #4:
4-8 overall.
243/406 (59.9%).
2,527 passing yards (only 210 passing yards per gm).
9 TDs/13 INTs.
9 fumbles (4 lost).
17 turnovers (despite only 12 games).
QB Rating of 71.9.
I couldn't care less about Sam Darnold's 1st and 2nd years and I couldn't care less about Zach Wilson's 1st and 2nd years. It's all about years 3 and 4 for me (see, Josh Allen).
All I want to see from Zach Wilson year #2 is progression in comparison to his Rookie season. But years #3 and #4 is where I'll really see what he's made of.
For anyone who supported Sam Darnold during his 1st 4 NFL years without mocking him, laughing @ him and bashing him throughout every post? Imo? Zach Wilson deserves that same freedom throughout the next 2-3 years.
2018... 17 to 15 TD to Picks. 2865 Yards. 4-9 record as a starter.
2019... 19 to 13 TD to Picks. 3024 Yards. 7-6 record as a starter.
that looks like progress to me.
Just my opinion, but Sam's decline with us was mostly due to the rest of the league, especially BUFF, NE, and MIA having a full year of film on Gase + an even worse roster than his prior seasons.
I have no dog in the fight on Sam, but i do like him, and as stated, i hope he goes to a place where an organization (hopefully Carolina) is willing to let him develop while they complete a rebuild "or" he lands in a place like Trubisky did so he can develop like Rodgers, Rivers, and Mahommes had a chance to.
PS... you are a stat manipulator, not QB evaluator.
28 INTs and 16 fumbles (5 lost) and/or his 33 turnovers throughout his first 2 years?
And let's not blame his turnovers on "the Jets" when in H.S he was a fumbling monster and USC an INT machine.
Look familiar?
And what that video didn't show were all of his 2016 INTs and fumbles while @ USC.
PS: Carolina benched him for 5 games due to bad play last year (coming off a 0 TD/3 INT performance vs the same NE tesm he saw ghosts against as a Jet) and Carolina is already looking to replace him throughout either FA/Trade/Draft so good luck with Carolina letting him develop during his 5th NFL year (and beyond).
At the end of the day I just hope that the same fans making all the excuses in the world for Sam Darnold (4 years later) become the same exact fans who do the same for Zach Wilson (who was just thrown into the fire on a crap team coming off of a 2-14 crap season while having to go against the NFLs #1 toughest Defensive Schedule while being without multiple key starters week in and week out while alongside of a brand new coaching staff).
I don't dislike Sam Darnold. I dislike the extreme criticism of Zach Wilson from Sam Darnold fans.

Funny...you are all about Burrow having a leg up because he is 25 in his 3rd year, while Sam is 25 going into his 5th...yet, he doesn't get the age defacto benefit.
if Carolina releases him...good for him! then he gets to decide the best place to resume his career. personally, i wouldn't mind him doing it with us backing up Zach. That would be the Brown trade for the Doctor on Steroids!!
Zach Wilson/Sam Darnold would become an even bigger circus than Sanchez/Tebow (with Sam being the Tebow circus). No thanks man.
Good luck to Sam Darnold. Maybe at 27 he can become as good as a 25 year old Joe Burrow two years from today.
All I'm saying is lets not bash Zach's Rookie year while praising Joe Burrows rookie year without first acknowledging that Joe Burrow was 3 years older than Zach Wilson during their Rookie seasons. If that upsets you? Then I'm sorry. To each our own.
nothing you say upsets me... it's just impossible to keep up with pretzel logic.
Sam was jettisoned out, so if he came back, it wouldn't be a circus, because it would clearly be a back up role...would you call for him if #2 had a few bad games? however, he is young enough, and athletic enough, and talented enough to be a spot starter if #2 was injured.
Tebow was a joke and an insult to Sanchez because he wasn't an NFL QB...he was a sideshow that never should have been.

Well first of all you were a Darnold lover once as well despite all the stats about him being a turnover machine in college. You obviously aren't a QB evaluator.
