This throw by Zach Wilson doesn’t get talked about enough

Think about the receiver on the other end of this throw who became enemy number one throughout the season by fans, think more disappointed then hatred. But what if he can elevate his game and get three to four targets a game completing and taking it the distance or even a huge chunk gained...

Kid has a bunch of potential, really hope he can fulfill it. I've said it before, If I were Mims I'd be pestering Wilson to work out in the offseason, camping out on his doorstep if necessary.

Can’t say I agree if they have a definitive plan and doing that would deviate from said plan . This scheme calls for deception and receiver must be able to adapt .
Moore can run routes over the middle, out of the slot or take you deep and that’s what the regime expects from its receivers.

Denzel Mims out of Baylor was a developmental receiver that knew one route; 9...
LaFleur wants him not only to understand how to run routes but how to be effective doing so...
Problem is, between food poisoning, normal flu, covid flu he was never able to get into proper football conditioning to eventually be able to do said workouts to improve this skillset... I give him this off season to at least perfect two additional routes while understanding the concept of the slot receiver and the perimeter responsibilities...

then he comes out shows up in preseason and we go from there...

I think we all want the same thing, however I feel that great coaches figure out how best to utilize the players that they have. Last year all of the health issues notwithstanding, was a waste for Mims. Perhaps last year was tear-down year and he'll come out of it a different and much better WR. I assume that's what we all hope for.

I seen something totally different and I even used my stop clock timer while watching that play.

You're right. He was having trouble staying in his lane because in exactly 1.38 seconds after snapping the ball he had a free pass rusher from the left side about to sack him so what did he do? He didn't move around much at all but instead he ran a total of 3-4 yards up from the collapsed pocket and delivered a strike.

It wasn't a full on hit either. It was an ANKLE tackle man...

1.38 seconds? I watched it again and it seemed longer than that.

The Second Half of The Carolina Game, IMO, was the absolute best glimpse into the future of what Zach is going to bring.

But IMO, the pass that doesn't get spoken of enough was one that preceded this one.
* The deep cross to Berrios on a 4th and 10... as Terry Tata would say, "Steeee - Rike".

1.) gotta have it.
2.) no room for error.
3.) hits him in stride.
4.) sets up an easier (IMO) throw to #11 we are now discussing.

he took 3 steps up into the pocket. bare in mind this is a rookie, right...in his first game with the presence of mind to do this.
he threw it while planting on the third step.
there was no bootleg, or even a look where he was going to scramble.
and it was because he took a three steps "up into", that #11 cleared initial coverage, he had a lane, and he didn't get sacked.

Wilson does have work to do... to get back to the point where he is so entrenched into the offense that he gets back to making plays like this look as second nature as he did on this one.

what is very hard to teach at any level for QBs is pocket presence......and ultimately that means winning from the pocket. Can't be the type to flee as soon as the first read is not open. To win a Superbowl, you need to have the guts to do everything possible to make a throw rather than run. Sometimes running is the proper diagnosis, but the league has too many who don't understand this aspect. Zach Wilson is not one of them. His instincts are to make a throw. This play is a great illustration of extending it long enough for a chunk play.

simply put - you hear it most often described as the difference between the QBs who take their eyes off downfield vs those that keep one downfield while trying to move/slide/spin/run to get to a safer spot to throw. The great ones don't bail.
