Less than a year after the the Jets dumped off Sam Darnold to the Panthers, the deal looks even better in Florham Park.

The quarterback’s trade value has “cratered,” Sports Illustrated reported on Monday, adding the Panthers might need to eat some money in order to deal him.

The Jets’ main goal in dealing Darnold last April was to clear the way for Zach Wilson, whom they would draft with the No. 2 overall pick weeks later. But they also got back a second- and fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and a sixth-round pick in 2021.

After acquiring Darnold, the Panthers picked up his fifth-year option for 2022 at an $18.9 million price tag. The former No. 3 pick went on to have a rough season, starting 11 games and completing 59.9 percent of his passes for 2,527 yards, nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also missed five games because of a fractured shoulder blade.

The Panthers wound up having to sign Cam Newton, who made five starts, and also used backup P.J. Walker for another start. They could potentially be in line to draft a quarterback in next month’s draft.

The Jets, meanwhile, will have an extra pick in the second round — 38th overall — thanks to the Darnold deal.

It was a great trade based on his performance. I wish like hell he would have worked out here, but for many reasons he didn’t.

shit happens we move on and hope for the best... like you I wished he would of been better but his track record he never improved always seem to repeat his mistakes... think he was doomed from that first pass for a pick six, from there never really pointed north was always steady place over and the team didn't help...

well from the start they gave him not one but two weapons from the same draft and a protector so right away that is an improvement of what Sam got...

Definitely. And more improvements to come. If Wilson fails it will be his fault.

no more hero ball, that was my angst on him and it was well deserved... he continues his way he will be yesterday's news... if he buys in 100% they will surround him with ample talent and protection and he then could be the hero without playing hero ball...

Joe D definitely got it right on that one! Hopefully he does with rest of his moves! There’s still time for both his drafts to pan out very well. Becton gets and stays healthy and dominates for a good 10 years or so. Wilson, Carter, Moore, Vera-Tucker continue to grow and do the same!

not only will Becton be back he is taking that job back, plain n simple. the idea of how to build will be evident through the process of free agency the offensive line will be addressed expect a couple shocks to happen but the rumors of a couple guys getting re-signed is true but not the ones people expect.

remember to crush me with this if i am wrong.

even the very best have to be a hero every now and again, and "because" he has fully invested himself in the offense, when those times arise, his overall talent is going to make them look easy.

I hear ya - Zach just went there before he was ready to do it....but gimme the instincts and undeniable belief in himself to learn/overcome.......he will be fine

Sam's problem was he came to the NFL with a turnover issue.......scouts felt he could be cured with better ball security in the pocket......to his credit he improved it somewhat, BUT he never shook the WTF throws.........anyone watching the Jets down the stretch saw Zach evolve in ball security.

don't worry plenty of people on this forum will crush you, and then remind that you told me to crush you they have long memories. but the reason they drafted Zach Wilson is his big deep accurate ability. but they wanted to conform him, they should of explained to him what they were thinking and maybe he would of bought in prior to playing his game. it was his selfishness and wanted to be the New York unsung hero bringing his flavor to Broadway, but not the reason they drafted him. they wanted him to be that pocket passer and grow not only chemistry with the receivers but continuity with the offensive line and tight ends that helped the blocking assignments. after the injury he understood and stayed within the confines of the game plan, but there were times that his improvisation was needed; when the pocket or protection collapsed he is mobile enough to run, albeit at times he needed to break the sack or break a tackle and shimmy his way to gain yardage and/or first down to keep the drive alive but that is what he can do and why they drafted him. if there is a busted coverage he needs to understand take the shot but make sure you throw the ball only where the receiver can get it, don't throw it short giving the defenders time to make a play on the ball or intercept.

So yes, I understand what you are saying but he needs to refine his attitude towards the game, rather than convert to a Mike White type of attitude.

many rookies have to learn the same thing.....especially those who don't maybe get that beat into their head at a high level college program. To me, Jets had to get the BYU out of him.......but I expected it and don't see any long term hindrance to his growth.....his track record is improvement at each level year after year. Basically, what we saw unfold over the course of the season was what he does - learn and not repeat mistakes. His most impressive game in terms of growth might've been that BUF game where any and every possible excuse to implode was offered up but he never gave in. Now of course he needs to come back and pick up where he left off and go to next level.

wow... that is definitely a deep dive into what a fan would consider his finest moment/ "s".
you're right. nothing was available, and BUFF outmatched them, but he never gave them the ability to pile on more than they did while making them bleed on the one play they let him hold a knife.

Great Call!!

gmf1369, you said for us to expect the unexpected resigning of a couple of Offensive linemen. I hope one of them is not Greg Van Roten.
