D.K. Metcalf pushes back on trade chatter

With the Seahawks previously saying that had “no intention” of trading quarterback Russell Wilson, before trading him, and with the Seahawks more recently using the I-word regarding receiver DK Metcalf, there’s plenty of chatter and speculation that he could be traded.

Metcalf pushed back on the talk earlier today, saying that he has heard nothing about a potential deal.

Whether he’s heard anything doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Although Metcalf may have no desire to go to a potential new team, anyone trading for him presumably will be willing to pay him on the way through the door. That would tend to change a guy’s mind about a new team, quickly.

The Jets continue to make plenty of sense. They have the draft capital; one of their first-round picks previously belonged to the Seahawks. The Jets also tried to trade for former Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill. And the Jets have a young, strong-armed quarterback in Zach Wilson, who could get the ball repeatedly to Metcalf.

On top of everything else, Metcalf’s superhero physique and demeanor could make him a star in New York. One thing we’ve learned over the past few weeks is that anything can happen. And that plenty of things will. If the Seahawks were willing to trade Wilson, they’ll trade anyone — Metcalf included — for the right price.

Jets really need to get a consistent WR to catch passes from Zach. To many drops, lot of key 3rd down drops off hands sometimes bouncing off hands to other team.

I know amid coming out in this draft with just those capabilities. Ty Fryfogle has hands like glue sticks

But is stiff in his route running. meaning his hips along with footwork are not top shelf. Struggles to create consistent separation. Lacks overwhelming twitch and speed.

if you are looking to add receiving options, the body of work meaning quickness, shiftiness and route running are the top three attributes. they all can catch, but can they create separation with their quickness? can they use their shiftiness off the line to disorient defender? do they have top route tree to not be a one trick pony? if so then they are on the Jets radar regardless of height.

A player like Christian Watson could be considered another Denzel Mims, college production might not translate early to the NFL. But a player like David Bell who has the same makeup has a higher chance to produce early. Players like John Metchie III more formidable inside then on the perimeter could anchor the slot position allowing other players matchup scenarios to better attack with the game plan.

There are so many ways to look at this draft but understanding how this offense wants to attack with the passing game but same time don't hinder the flexibility of the team's future if Robert Saleh is replaced.

The question is on twitter started from GMFB, would Jets trade the 10th pick for DK Metcalf?
My reply is no!
We are entering the second year of a massive top to bottom rebuild, a player entering his fourth year in the league and has a shelf that has not been reached yet and is considerably still young at the age of 24. Reasons is being that he is NOT a first round pick and is considered one of the top receivers in the game, his salary would start $30 M annual next year if we would be able to re-sign him that is after the trade. Yes I get it don't trade for him until there is a deal in place is an option but heading into year two of our rebuild, adding a receiver of his talent does NOT make us competitive to the reason of making the playoffs forget the Super Bowl.

Team needs to add pieces through the draft, not try to strike a home run move through trading for a player like him right now. This type of move would be an icing on the cake move we could see next off season. Why trade assets when next off season when we are able to address those type of players to make our roster from great to sure fire bet to compete at that type of stage.

Remember I watch Ole Miss games, follow all the prospects but this one move does not help the growth of the roster, will only hinder the potential to help elevate our young signal caller production. He needs young talent not only to growth with but not be the shadow of a talent like DK.

D.K. Metcalf and Seattle's #1 (9th) to the Jets for their First #1 (4th) and their 2nd 4th Rd pick. This would give the Jets the WR they need and the 9th and 10th picks in the Draft.
