It is not the sexiest of depth but there is potential
the three s could have an active role in our defense with Lawson, Curry and Huff. Expect Martin to be more than just a Wide 9 but play some LB for us. Also expect Anae to turn some heads in offseason. Ward we know his shelf has too much athleticism not to take the next step.

I don't see any of them reaching the level that opponents have be aware of them. Lawson can be that kind of player.

Tim Ward has the traits of that untapped potential that were evident in Bryce Huff. This coaching staff believes they can maximize his talents along with his energetic motor to be a big role player on defense. Outside Huff and Ward it is slim pickings. We really don't know the potential Anae has but we know what he accomplished for the Utes. Rashed Jr., like Anae had a stellar college career and last year had some gimme moments, entering year two Hamilcar will have to show up and prove they made the right decision in signing him.

Difference is Lawson is suppose to be that huge splash signing that because of an injury failed to produce any rewards for JD. Bringing back Curry with his leadership and capable play ability allows them to use one of the four early picks on an EDGE but without having to pull the trigger on 4 for someone they are unsure about. The roster is far from complete but they have added proper talent to be competitive on all stages. Now will Ward be productive, time will tell. Can Bryce Huff stay healthy again time will tell. What about the others again lets get through the draft and let things play out but they have a great group of rich talented players to choose from.

As for Jacob Martin free agent signing. He will play mostly at linebacker but when they pull the trigger on the Wide 9 formation he will line up at defensive end and will surprise most when he puts up those EDGE numbers that people have been craving for some time.

Pass rushing is the most important part of any defense IMO. All year long we watched opposing QB’s sit back in the pocket and make three check downs before finding the open man. You can’t win this way in a league with so many good QB’s.

Those names mentioned are fringe NFL players. This defense needs studs rushing the QB. Lawson is a dawg. We need one more dawg. It’s JD’s job to determine which one of these top Edge’s can be that guy. I don’t think it’ll be found beyond the top 10. Grab him soon. It’s too important of a position.

Talk is cheap. I want to see them walk the walk. I heard the same noise when we signed the Linebacker off the Lions team last year on how he was going to be a great Linebacker for us and he's back with the Lions now. He couldn't even stay on the field and when he did, when couldn't wait to get him off the field. He was that bad.

you do understand last year was an evaluation year implementing a new game plan that the majority of the roster never played? they brought in people who they believed could help or would fit the scheme at bargain bottom contracts. so easily to forget that it was year one for Saleh and his coaching staff and there was plenty of roster turn over this off season and come next year as well. it takes some time to overhaul a roster from top to bottom meaning it takes a few years. usually by year three will see significant results but have to be patient and stop the nonsense. yea yea I know suffering so many years but finally have a competent front office with a competent eager direction with the coaching staff.
