there will be outstanding WR prospects at 10 - a gamble but the right one has a serious shot to be a true number one

key difference is whoever you pick there wont cost the many millions Deebo will cost - and wont be insisting on how he is used like Deebo

take a WR at 10 if desired and have cap for one or even two excellent other FA or trade players on a team with many needs

now is not the time to deal and sign a contract with a star WR - the market at that position is frothy and high

I understand the “no to Deebo” argument from a couple of angles. I’m a little uneasy about players complaining their way out of a successful organization like SF. Clearly he isn’t a fan of running it back with Trey Lance. Also, the reduction of running plays he’s insisting on means he’s “less Deebo” than before. I get it, his mind blowing statistics came from some of that.

But Deebo has proven to be a great #1 WR, too. His YAC and ability to outrun defenders at his size is remarkable. He’s awesome getting downfield for the explosive plays that we need so badly. Also, the Jets have the money to pay an All Pro player. I’m not concerned at all about that. Deebo Samuel will earn every penny. He would become the best player on this team immediately and help Zach Wilson realize his full potential. This is an exceptional opportunity and JD should make his best offer. If it’s not enough, fine. Draft a WR at 10 and hope he’s 2/3 of Deebo Samuel.

but he won't cost 25 mil a year until he becomes a diva too. belichick never gave anyone big bucks
Stud WR’s are divas? When did this news break? Lol.

Ask Josh Allen how that Stephon Diggs thing is going up there in Buffalo?

And pay close attention to the Raiders when Davonte Adams is making Derek Carr look like a franchise QB next year in Las Vegas.

Tyreek in Miami…. Teams are figuring this out. They’re following the Cincinnati/Buffalo script.

I think a better comparison would be the 49ers last season. Last season, Garoppolo and Samuel only amassed a 10-7 record ... with an effective defense. Our defense was mostly garbage last season.

Acquiring Samuel will inhibit our ability to upgrade our defense. I'd possibly be on board with your argument if the defense wasn't so bad. But the defense is simply not that good and shows no sign of significant improvement without significant upgrades. We were 4-13 las season. Acquiring Samuel will not give us a 6-win improvement and make us 10-7. 3 or 4 new starters will have more of an impact. And yes, I'm banking on a successful draft but I have no choice. I'm not banking on a perfect draft but I am banking on a successful draft. If JD can't succeed in the draft then he needs to be shown the door and he needs to be shown it quickly. Making trades because you can't trust your ability to draft, albeit a huge inference (but I think is an accurate assessment of your argument based on your previous reply to me), is not the way to go.

we're not buffalo. and all those others are yet to be seen. guess we'll see. why did davonte need to leave Rodgers? or Tyreek need to leave Kc? divas?

I want team players who want to be on our team for reasons other than money. worked for belichick for 20 years. and some of his players didn't like not being paid so they left. the ones that stayed got rings

we watched them from behind for 20 years. time to become them

minus the cheating anyway

a lot has been said about a possible offer to SF that includes Eli Moore.

I really just don't see the logic in going for Deebo for a package involving the #10 pick or Elijah whatsoever. Why would they compromise the salary cap timeline of the roster? Jets aren't Superbowl material today - why impede the ability to pay your own players next year and beyond when you could draft a WR and milk those cheaper years? I just don't get it UNLESS there isn't a talent anywhere near his abilities in this draft and/or they won't see him at the #10 pick. Beyond that I don't understand. He's not Tyreek and his unicorn skillset so to me he isn't the guy.

Now if you want to talk a package that doesn't involve #10 - then that is more digestible.

I'd think there is a better shot to get DK Metcalf (and not for #10 either).....these guys are going to cost a fortune which devalues them a bit. In his case it all comes down to his mental makeup.

(lighter side note-DK was back in Oxford last weekend and visited his old restaurant job where my kid now works.........gave him the Jets chant telling him we could use him).

Why do I have the feeling its Ekwonu at 4, Fant gets extended, and its a package of picks and Becton for Deebo ?????

I saw that from one person, I think a Patriots journalist. I highly doubt the Jets deal Moore.

the posts i saw on twitter totaled 4. i don't think JD would deal Moore either, but JD does see players as assets and Deebo might be a more valuable asset than Moore.

but even at that, it isn't JD's style. he deals the asset to acquire capital. to take on an asset who will not be worth as much when it's time to turn him doesn't fit JD's mantra.
