Update: Deebo Samuel has officially ask to be traded

The addition of Laken Tomlinson with AVT gives the Jets perhaps the best Guard combo in the NFL. You mentioned McGovern, who got roasted by fans in 2020, but bounced back nicely last season. Fant was really good in pass pro at LT. So really it’s about Becton coming back at RT and mauling people in the ground game. This line has the potential to be absolutely ridiculous, if you ask me.

I wouldn’t draft Ekwonu, and I think he’s a fantastic prospect. Can’t miss even. That’s how confident I am in this o-line.

i respect that analysis... and @SackExchange 's analysis too; we have a good to very good OLine.
but, i respectfully disagree with not completing the OLine overhaul.

FINISH THE SKYSCRAPERS... even with Fant & MCGovern & Laken this year, complete the OLine during Zach's rookie contract.
Laken is already +30.
Mc is close to 30 and under contract.
Fant will be 30 and under contract.

if we took Penning-RT in the first, Jurgens-C in the 2nd, and Cole Strange-RG in the 3rd, we have a young line for years to come.
Zach goes off the charts, MC1 goes off the charts to start this year with the Oline of Fant- Laken- Mc- AVT- Becton.

but with the 3 kids hypothetically drafted and waiting in the wings for the second half of the season, Fant, Mc, and Laken become valuable pieces to move for shiny new toys in future drafts for contenders who lose a LT, C, and LG during the year/pre-season.

So the situation hasn't changed since I posted about my same futile internet search just about 24 hours ago (see my post above).
The last few pages of this thread have been worth exactly diddly.
Later

Yes, the days leading up to the draft are silly season. Hot takes about prospects rising and falling, guarantees based on exactly nothing that player X is definitely going to this team, and tweets that are entirely speculative about “who’s the favorite to land Deebo Samuel”.

The o-line is important, no doubt. But at what point are we going to stop using our highest draft capital on it? There are so many other areas that need upgrades. That’s all I’m saying.

this board is really cool, because there aren't meat-head fans on it who would completely forego the Oline or Dline to get a "weapon".
we are all reasonable enough to know that without the lines we don't have a thing; making us closer in philosophy than apart!

trust me... you and Sack make total sense; we are light years away from where we were before Becton was chosen as the initial piece to start the overhaul.

"But at what point are we going to stop using our highest draft capital on it?"
my answer is after this year/ draft.
The reason is simple...

if we get it complete this year, we are solid for 3 years with only having to pick up becton's 5th year option.

with 9 picks this year : 2 in the first and second each (so far), 1 3rd and 2 4ths, we can appropriately use the capital according to position and round without a complete disregard for weapons... we can still use a first for DE, a Second for (?) Christian Watson at WR in 2nd, a stud at RB in the 4th, a stud at LB in the 5th.

IMO, a completed OLine and DLine make us an attractive landing place for FA's who are the missing piece.
those FA's worth having aren't interested in rebuilds.

My concern is that if you draft OL very high, he'd be expected to start right away. So I don't see the Jets doing anything about Tomlinson. It would be more likely they go tackle earlier, which would mean moving on from either Fant or Becton.

I would rather draft a potential developmental IOL, and perhaps a developmental OT, as opposed to taking one early. Right now, the chairs are filled, and adding one more starting body to it just complicates matters and isn't the wisest allocation of resources.

And that's from someone who, as you know, is ALL about building the line.

Regarding the age thing, McGovern and Tomlinson being 30, remember that’s not old for an o-lineman. Both of those players could play well for another 3-4 years. You can address finding their replacements in a couple of years from now.

i don't disagree with you. however, after seeing the line be a bad problem for so long, i am down with creating a good problem to have, because that problem leads to returns on investments.

Raiders LT is injured while we have Fant, Becton and Penning... Fant is now a Raider and we own a pick with Bec at LT and Penn at RT.
Cowboys C is injured while we have Jurgens... Mc is a Boy, we own another pick, and Jurg is our C.
Niners LG is injured while we have Strange... Laken goes home, we get a pick, and Strange is our RG as AVT goes back to LG.

no doubt!! not walking my take back, but yours is not wrong ;)

the thing that makes me excited is either way, we aren't talking about our QB getting killed anymore or our RB's not being able to get to the second level.

the idea is once you build it correctly, you draft to structure the succession line at positions coming open due to FA, age, and/or ineffectiveness. We are very close to it with the OL.....so I can easily see a mid round pick on more OL - be it C or G or T. Joe likes versatility, but they need to develop a legit C prospect, IMO.

That third rounder at #69 is a good spot for a developmental Center if Jurgens is there.

How’s that conversation gonna go?

“So Deebo, about that demand to get out of here, yeah…uh…that’s not happening. And we’re probably franchise tagging you next year. Sorry man”.

Could be just like that if they can't come to an agreement on how he's being used. The team has the most leverage here.

Deebo's people would be SOOOOOO happy.

Not that a moody, disgruntled skill position guy is anything new.
