I have to be the only Jets fan who didn’t want Ferguson. Probably because I wanted to draft Jay Cutler from Vandy . We didn’t really have a QB at the time so what good is drafting a pass blocking LT when you have no QB to protect . Oh well he played 10 years and didn’t miss a game.

LOVED THIS GUY. HE AND MANGOLD WERE STAPLES FOR OUR OFFENSE FOR A VERY LONG TIME. HUGE REASON WHY THEY WON SO MUCH AND SHOULD HAVE A SUPERBOWL DURING THE VINNY T, CURTIS MARTIN, WAYNE CREBET ANS KEYSHAWN JOHNSON DAYS.

HOPEFULLY M. BECTON AND VERA-TUCKER CAN BE A EVEN BETTER VERSION OF THEM!

In the 2006 draft, I wanted and expected Brick at #4. Cutler, as disappointing as he was, would've been the best Jets QB from the days of Ken O'Brien on.

Jay Cutler would’ve been a good Jets QB even though he sucked everywhere else? Really?

Yes really.

Here's his numbers.

Better than Wilson, Darnold, Smith, Sanchez, Fitz, Hackenburg.

...and I reject your premise that he sucked everywhere else. He only played on 2 teams and made the pro-bowl with one of them.

If the Jets had that kind of qb production 2008-2010. They probably would've made it to the superbowl.

I remember back them I had my line all set . “Santa Claus is coming to town”. Remember Cutler was from Santa Claus Indiana and was the only reason Vandy was even mentioned that year . I wanted him in the worst way possible

I guess we’ll never know. Call it the road not taken . The Jets always found a reason for not taking a player whose career in the league was a success . Instead we took the Kyle Brady’s of the world and became the brunt of the league’s jokes .

Jay Cutler lead his team to a winning record 3 out of 12 seasons as a QB. 3 out of 12.

One pro bowl.

Whoopee.

Again, still better than Wilson, Darnold, Smith, Sanchez, Fitz, Hackenburg. Former Jets QBs have set the bar low.

This is my original statement:

You're challenging this?!?

Maybe he just wants to understand my interest in said player. Back when Jay Cutler came out of Vandy I didn’t know that he was an antisocial 💩head . All I knew about him was that he was a diabetic who took shots and was the only reason anyone was ever talking about Vandy football. To me with us needing a QB and this guy elevating a moribund college program to recognition, he seemed like a God send . I also figured we could get Mangold later in the first and at the time I figured we could grab Marcus McNeil the Auburn OT in the 2nd

I think it’s premature to start comparing Zach Wilson to Jay Cutler. Wilson was a rookie last year. His ceiling isn’t close to being reached.

I know Mark Sanchez, mediocre as he was, got the Jets to back to back AFC Championship games.

Cutler was hyped up as the next gunslinger stud QB, but he flamed out with the Bears and showed how mediocre he was. I don’t know that the Jets really missed out on him.

No he didn't. It was the rest of the team.
And I think if you swapped out Sanchez with Cutler in 2010, the Jets would've also beaten, Miami a second time, Green Bay, Chicago, and perhaps Baltimore.

Cutler would have failed in NY. He just didn't have the mental side to handle NY.
Over the past 10 seasons, our aggregate QB rating was a whopping 73.7! Last season, there were only 4 starters with lower ratings than 73.7....one was Wilson and one was Darnold. Picking a QB at random would with almost complete certainty be an improvement. Saying that this QB wouldn't be good enough or that qb wouldn't be good enough is just bat sh*t crazy.

I'm not saying he wouldn't have been better than all our QB's over last two decades. Since Cutler struggled most of his career he would have crashed and burned in NY. I'm saying he was not equipped mentally for NY and their media or for one of the worst franchises in the history of sports.

good back and forth with @BlindsideD'Brick and both of you make really decent points.

the only thing i caution anyone when kicking Sanchez's Jet legacy to the curb is (a.) remember just how many games he came from behind to win, and (b.) remember just how many times Rex's vaunted defense was asked to get a final 3 and out but did not "after" Sanchez got them the lead. in '09, i remember BUFF, ATL, MIA, and JAX as those games.
