Zach Wilson has a problem.

He doesn't make a lot of mistakes. If you look at the Pittsburgh game, any time he was pressured out of the pocket, nobody was open and he wisely threw incomplete passes while being sacked only twice. His only bad throw was the first int where the ball bounced off of the defenders hands and into the man in coverage. His mechanics were off on that throw. The second int was the correct read but the left WR didn't clear out with a deep route. And so his cover man was able to make the play.

Watching the Bills and Chiefs, Mahomes and Allen get away with murder. But it works for them. So I think that Wilson needs to take more risks in order to progress. I don't know the path forward for him. More risks would've likely cost us the game against Pittsburgh.

I don't have a solution. But really! Taking risks if the potential reward is high enough is a good thing.
Trivial example: Spiking the football every play is taking no risks. The last 5 games of '21, he threw 0 ints but only 3 TDs. Don't you think he and the team would've fared better if he threw 8 TDs and 3 Ints?

Zach is still learning, just completed his 16th game, technically still in his first year as a starter. The Jets have surrounded him with play makers on offense, a run game that takes the pressure off from him, and a defense that can dominate. It kinda reminds me of the '09 & '10 seasons with Rex. I'm pleased that Zach doesn't have to play hero ball. He's not giving games away. This old school type of complimentary football will be boring, even ugly at times, but it still wins games in this quarterback driven league. Simply put, the defense will carry this team. When they have an off day, and they will, the passing will have to save the day. Maybe just winning overcomes mistakes.

In my honest opinion, I rather see the Jets run at least 30 times a game while passing 24 or less times. Zach's play action is most effective when we have the threat of running the ball. Plus having Hall and Carter on the field together drives the opposing DC nuts. They can't tell whether it's a run or a pass. They're only going to get better! Stay healthy and hungry.

In my opinion, the emergence of all of our young studs on both sides of the ball has changed the narrative for this season. Previously, I believed that the season was all about finding out whether or not Zach was a franchise qb. Now, the team has improved to the point that the season is all about winning games. So if we win games with a conservative offense, who cares about Zach’s stats? The idea is to score touchdowns, not accumulate passing yards. Zach has already shown that he can lead the team to comeback victories, so what is the problem?

Yeah, I’m ok with having a little gunslinger in him but not taking unnecessary risks. The Jets have found a winning formula and it’s a heavy dose of Breece Hall. Ride the hot hand and go with what’s working. We’ve seen what happens when we abandon the running game and throw the ball all day. We lose (Baltimore and Cincinnati). We don’t need Zach chucking it all around the place when the defense and running game are in full control.

My non-expert analysis of Zach yesterday was he played safe (called good managing ) but I don't think his passing would have beaten our previous two opponents.
I guess good teams have to pick up and compensate for others on any given Sunday. We can run!

I think the key is, he’s not taking calculated risks (like throwing a receiver open, which if you can’t do, you’re not a quarterback). He seems to only throw 10 yards open. Which is fine if we’re up and holding a lead, but you simply can’t play like that an entire game and in every situation.

I’m fine with being safe with Zach, but that is a progression plan, not an answer. It’s still way early in the season, let’s see how they progress with him. I’m hoping things open up more and more as the games/season move on. He has the arm strength and talent to make throws; now we have to figure out if he has the instincts and vision to decipher a defense and pick it apart

Here's Zach Wilson's value that really isn't being acknowledged. I don't have the statistics on this, so excuse on that but the eye test should tell us all. We all see it, or we should see this anyway! Zach has helped in ways that can't be measured. Our oline has drastically improved in the run game. I personally feel Zach style of play has something to do with that because he is a bit of a run threat and his arm strength in throwing the ball deep scares defenses. So that opens it up for our running game, but I will admit I could be totally wrong about that. This could all be because the oline is slowly starting to get healthy and they are just gelling finally.

What isn't debatable, at least in my opinion is the fact that the oline is still struggling in pass protection and Zach has been under ALOT of pressure these pass three games. However, he hasn't gotten sacked alot because of his scrambling ability. He keeps plays alive enough to at least avoid sacks and throw the ball away. If not run for a few or find an open player. Something Flacco couldn't have done! Zach avoided I'd say 3-5 sacks each game and that is key! That also helps keeps drives alive in which, they can run instead of having to pass. Or he can throw short passes to his RBs, TEs or even the WRs instead of the 10-15 yards passes that Flacco always had to.

Sacks are drive killers and Zach has been keeping them alive enough if not to score points, to keep or change the field position and that means more than we all know! The WRs or some are upset now but sooner or later, Zach will have to throw the ball to keep us in the game or win and then we'll see what he and the WRs do. They already displayed that in the Steelers game, and they came from behind and won. Zach was money in the second half, especially the fourth quarter. E. Moore got quite a few passes/attempts in that game. He wasn't complaining about that, was he??? Anyway, let's all just celebrate these Ws and hope they continue. Players and fans alike!

Let’s hope he does. Generally, it takes experience to get better at those things and if you are winning while getting that experience than you have a thousand times better chance of success. I wasnt sold on Zach going into the season, but now i am hopeful

IMO the Packers game was a complete team win. Stellar defense, forced turnovers, scoring on special teams, running game demolishing GB. Zach had a few nice scrambles to save us from sacks, and hit Davis on a deep route with one of those scrambles.

The key was, no phase of the game did anything to cost us a win; limited mistakes and created opportunities all over, so a great team win.

I particularly liked the use of quick, short passes just a few yards into the Packer's secondary. A 4-5 yard gain isn't as exciting as a 40 yarder, but it can set up all sorts of things with minimal risk. Mr. Joseph Namath picked Baltimore apart with that in Super Bowl III.

I would love to see the Jets start incorporating some quick slants (we literally ran 1 last week).

It’s important to get the balls in the playmakers hands! Speedy/shifty receivers like Wilson/Berrios/Moore can feast against LBs and Safeties if we can get them the ball
