Jets HC Robert Saleh announced on Wednesday that QB Mike White will start Sunday against the Bears.

"We are going to roll with Mike White," Saleh said. "He has won games with us. He does a great job in practice. He's done a great job in games for us. He's extremely competent as a quarterback, and he's got the ability to make all the throws on the football field and run the offense in the manner that we need to. And as I said it three weeks ago or whatever it was that he's going to be next to get an opportunity, and that opportunity is now."

White, the third-year signal caller, started three games for the Jets last season and made four appearances, completing 66.7% of his passes with 5 TDs and 8 INTs. He threw for 953 yards in action against the Patriots, the Bengals, the Colts and the Bills.

In his first career start, a 34-31 victory against the AFC champion Bengals, White completed 37-of-45 attempts for 405 yards with 3 TDs and 2 INTs. Originally a Cowboys fifth-round pick in 2018 out of Western Kentucky, White earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors and became the second quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 400 yards in his first NFL start (Cam Newton, 2011).

White has been active for five games this season including the last two. Saleh told reporters following the Jets' Week 8 loss to the Patriots that White had been elevated to backup – ahead of veteran Joe Flacco.

"It is the same things we talked about when we elevated him to the second spot, that feels like 3 or 4 weeks ago," Saleh said. "We know he fully capable. He has started in this league. He has won games for us. And we just want to give him an opportunity."

Last Sunday, the Jets offense produced only 3 points and 103 yards in a 10-3 loss at New England. In his seventh start of the season, Zach Wilson completed 9-of-22 for 77 yards.

Flacco will backup White Sunday while Wilson will practice and be inactive.

"Zach's career her is not over," Saleh said. "…The biggest thing with Zach, is the young man needs a reset. His decision making has been fine. His practice habits have been fine. But there are some basic fundamental things that have gotten really out wack. This is opportunity for him to sit back, focus on those things and find a way to reconnect to all the things that we fell in love with during the draft process."

Well I have to admit that I pulled a few bone head moves when I was in my early 20's but I somehow survived. Is it me or does Zach look about 10 years older than last week? This is where we find out what he's made of. Will he get sullen and resentful ask to be traded? Or will he shut up and get to work? He always came back from injury and played better, sitting seemed to help him focus. This is different, it will either break him for good or he'll return with a big chip on his shoulder and take it out on his opponents.

But until then, GO Mike White!

He sounded sincere when he said his Pops. Called him. And yes, he looked 10 years older.

now we need to find out if he can play or not. Maybe when he comes back, we have the true, or close, o line back in place

Agree, he did sound sincere, now lets hope he can make the necessary adjustments and become what we all hoped he would be.

Jet QB picks are like folks going into hock to book passgae on the Titanic.
Some of those names could have been viable options long term if we had just been patient and let them sit and learn the pro game at the feet of a veteran . If you force a child to eat steak, you can’t blame the child if he starts choking.

Yet many here are demonizing Zach for choking on that exact same steak.

Very interesting stat I read up on:

Amongst the 52 QBs who were pressured on at least 20 dropbacks last season, White had the sixth-best completion percentage at 56.1%. I probably don’t need to tell you who was ranked 52nd out of 52 with a completion percentage of 29.3% (if you couldn’t guess, it was Zach Wilson).

LetsGo!!!!! Mike!!!!!!!

I’m in !!!!!
Everyone loves the back up !!

I hope I’m wrong about this but I’m starting to feel like we don’t have a QB on this team PERIOD that can legitimately help lead the Jets to the playoffs this year. The Jets IMO, will realistically need at least ten wins to make it and that might not even be enough. Being that they’ve lost all four games to playoff contending AFC teams.

Nine wins won’t be enough and it looks like that’s where they’ll land, IF WERE EVEN LUCKY WITH THAT! Now ofcourse I’m hoping Zach recovers from this, THIS YEAR and he’ll come back and be the guy but that’s not looking good at all right now. White I don’t have faith in. If Stevler was legit they would play him, I’m thinking. Flacco is a statue and not Vinny T!

Even though Flacco throw for a lot of yards those first three games, he was throwing the ball ALOT to get those yards, the Jets lost two of those games and that Browns game was a gimmy game the Browns screwed up! Plus, those three games the Jets was a fairly healthy team. So I don’t see Flacco coming back and being the fix we need also.

So with all this said, the Jets have already gave away two games they should have won. Two division games at that and I don’t think they can recover from that this year. Simply because their QB play is just that horrible and probably will continue to be that way. We’re all hopeful that this won’t be the case but prepare yourselves for the disappointment!

This team is playoff ready and I want them to get there, no matter who the QB is but I just don’t see it right now!

Almost playoff ready. They need to get the QB position figured out first.
They will have problems doing that until they fix the O line problems.
I really think the decision to replace the turf will help with the injury problems. Too bad there's no way to use natural grass in a stadium that hosts 17 games a season.

If they built they’re own stadium back in the state where they belong, they could have all of that!

Well, Mike White surprised me. I wasn’t optimistic about him, even facing a bad Bears team with their backup QB.

Credit where credit’s due. Kid had a day today. I’ll gladly be wrong in exchange for that performance, and a Jets win. He earned another start for sure.
