I'm a long time radio listener. That includes listening to our local NYC AM radio sports stations. That, in turn, means that I listen to the folks who call in to the shows with comments.
Lately, caller after caller has suggested that the Jets acquire this or that well-known QB. While their hearts are in the right place, they are neglecting the realities of building an effective offensive squad. A new QB, even if he's a world-beater, isn't going to make much difference if the front five continue to strew the path to the QB with roses for the opposing team's line-backers. Or if the ends continue to do the slippery hands cha-cha.
There's a limit to the money available for team-building. A top-o-the-line QB will suck up most of it.
Better that the Jets go with Mr. Michael White for the coming season and concentrate on re-building the team around him. Mr. Christopher Streveler will serve as a back-up for the time being. He can get more seasoning in the final quarters of run-away games.
Go, Gang Green!
