I see that pundits question the 15th pick especially since the Steelers traded to get to 14th. Well it's a moot point speculating had the Jets remained at 13th a tackle would've fell to them. No one is speculating that the Steelers could've easily traded with the Lions at 12 since they had the assets. Most of us believe we absolutely needed a premium tackle to protect Rodgers based on the sacks and protection lacking from last year. Well Zach held on to the ball and left the pocket too many times unnecessarily, Flacco was a statue, and White who didn't have much film on him fizzled. Aaron Rodgers knows how to get rid of the ball faster, plus his ability to buy time within the pocket will help the OL. The key here is the health of the OL.

He knew we wanted one of the top three OTs and so did the Steelers.
So he traded with them so they could take a tackle one spot ahead of us.

Now, about the pick. It wasn't so much a head scratcher when you've seen Salah's philosophy of undersized (based on their position) front seven defensive players. I don't like it.
They will get bullied of the ball and run on all day long.

That may happen, but I think he is around for another year. He will be two years removed from the achilles and could blow up this year. If he doesn't we have another pass rusher with a year under his belt and ready to contribute in a big way (hopefully) when he is released/traded. You won't get a 4th-5th rounder to replicate his unblockable pre-injury level.
This kid wouldn't have been my pick at 15 but then I don't have the insight to these players that JD does. I'm guessing he couldn't find a trade partner to move up or down so he took the player that he thought best fit our scheme and philosophy. He's not a great player in my mind but he is very good. I hope he proves his worth.
Good points and Beckton and AVT are both back so if they stay healthy we are OK. Would be nice to get another "O" line mauler though.
according to G, there are some good prospects still out there that we may be able to get in 4th or 5th rounds.
this is football........what's on paper means shit....guys will get hurt and the one area they can't afford to be thin at is pass rush......they'll get clobbered w/o it. Last year they didn't get much from the edge guys - so for me this kid has to show that he is a better all around player than Huff. They have Jermain Johnson, but do we know how they really feel about him entering 2023? Call it a reach, but since they couldn't swing a deal, they took the top pass rusher on their board. It's a long season and you need bodies.
We didn't need an Edge and we most certainly do not need another TE.
I have always defended JD but this selection is a puzzler for sure.
I would make the argument we didn't need another WR. Would a WR have more of an impact than an EDGE?? Rodgers makes all our WR's better, but we need all the pass rushers we can get in the AFC. This is a passing league and we have one of the best ever, but these QB's in the AFC need to be uncomfortable. Plus there might be a tackle in FA that JD has his eye on. At the end of the day, JD and his staff know all the players in college football. Most of know a handful of players. Like I said earlier Jet fans wanted an EDGE since Abraham and now we have depth at one of the most important spots in the game. Now if JD would have drafted this guy with an elite tackle on the board we all could be pissed, but they were all gone.
Defense: We need Linebackers and a Free safety. Offense: We need Offensive line help. 2nd Rd and beyond are where the real Gems are found. Let's hope JD and our scouting Dept finds those Gems.

He talked about taking him out of the 4i and moving him out on the Wide 9. For those who don't know, 4i is basically an inside shade of the tackle. So it's on the outside part of the B gap. I am thinking that the Jets love McDonald's abilities, and think that he can be a stud when utilized right.
As much as I was hoping for OL help, with the tackles gone, I can see them going with someone they believe they can turn into a sack machine - especially with how much Saleh values the pass rush.

I didn't think we needed to draft another WR either, that is why I never mentioned them in my post lol
"G" is right. There are other OTs out there that weren't top 4 but are still very worthy of a shot. There are a couple of good centers available also if they don't get snatched up before the Jets pick and I'm hoping they will add a center from this draft as well. There are some quality guards still available too so JD still can improve the "O" line.
Or we could look at it as Belichick traded away a pick when his team needs a tackle with a tackle on the board. Maybe Broderick Jones was not as highly rated as others think. Wouldn't the ultimate fuck you move by BB be drafting the guy the Jets want?

Several quality IOL prospects in round 2 could also go with a safety. We will see soon enough.
Sàlah , another Jet defense first coach . At least Rex and Parcells liked them big.
Because they played a lot more 3-man fronts. You want more size for that scheme.
Saleh's scheme is based on speed, winning 1-on-1 battles.
But we only have a 2nd round pick then nothing until the 4th. That sucks
