How did you Grade the Jets Draft?

I gave it a C with Tippman being its best pick. After hearing about RB Abanikanda and a few others I have upgraded my overall grade to a B

Aside from Tippman nothing fancy. A lot of depth pieces in an otherwise thin draft.

I give it a B. JD got a top center and another pass rusher. I really like Kuntz. Rodgers might make him a star. The others are depth, but lots of athletes.

You have to add Rogers into the mix, he cost us a draft pick.

Top QB
Edge
OL

Then a series of dart throws at potential in the lower rounds.

Solid B

As I stated in another thread this draft was about depth, as the starters are pretty much penciled in. The media can be brutal to say the least. Many believed JD's plan was to stack the deck with starters out of the gate. I was hoping he wasn't changing his philosophy since year one which is build the team through the draft. This year is confirmation that hasn't changed. The outside world is set on winning now at whatever cost. This organization isn't caving in to the demands of the impatient crowd.

We set out to bring in a veteran QB, check. Made some moves to accommodate him (play caller, favorite weapon), check. Added some play makers prior to the draft, check. We're pretty much set now whether we add Jones or not.

So in conclusion, I'm taking into account the entire off season when I submit a grade of "A". Two of our draft choices this year and one next year counted towards Aaron Rodgers. Not only are we playing towards a realistic shot at the SB, we're making plans to remain in the hunt for years to come!

I Felt OT Harrison who was projected as a late 1st or early 2nd should have been taken with our 1st Rd pick. Along with Tippman this would have been a good Draft. The rest of the Draft was depth players and special teamers. If you add in Rodgers to the equation of the Draft. I would give the overall Draft an (A).

probem is that there was no way this draft was going to be as good as last year's so it was bound to be disappointing

This draft was weird, unpredictable. Look at what the Texans did. Anyone see that coming? The Lions pulling a Mel Kiper no-no. Hell the Lions used their second 1st on a guy I wanted, but I thought Campbell wouldn't go until much later.
Can't predict these things when it's a shallow draft.

15. Will McDonald IV B+
43. Joe Tippmann A+
120. Carter Warren B+
143. Israel Abanikanda A-
184. Zaire Barnes A-
204. Jarrick Bernard-Converse B-
220. Zack Kuntz A+

Overall solid draft filling needs with future potential and solid rotational players. McDonald IV will share snaps but will ultimately 2024 become a valuable spot starter with majority of the percentage. Could of traded down, and should of pulled the trigger to move down but one of the two teams that offered changed their package deal during the draft which had JD and the front office pull the trigger on the 33rd overall on their board.

Tippmann was rated Top 36 and for him to fall to us at 43 was a steal, JMS is equally as good just older. Tippmann will compete with McGovern for starting center role. Worst case JT will start at Guard. Be interesting on how it plays out. Easily the best pick of the draft.

Carter Warren durability issues will be the question but his length and athleticism could battle for a long time at one of the two tackle positions. There is doubt with durability with several players, so stacking the deck is smart. Good Selection.

Abanikanda, think of an upgrade over James Robinson. Has home run speed and threat to break a long run. Now the stable of the backfield is loaded with Knight likely the returner. Israel will likely spell Carter until Hall is ready to roll. But we need three steady productive backs with one a return specialist.

Barnes fell down the draft boards, this guys has wheels for a linebacker, a former safety in Illinois high school and when he started out his college carer at WMU before shifting to LB. He is the epitome of Saleh linebackers. Able to cover and get down hill fast while covering ground side line to side line.

Bernard-Converse has potential, think of Jason Pinnock talent tree. Has ability but his technique is raw. Expect him to get plenty of snaps on special teams but also believe him to play the hybrid corner/safety role this year.

What can I say but Big Boy, Kuntz has a lot of potential. Tall lanky tight end with good speed to open the vertical down the field pass attacking in Hackett's game plan. He will sit behind Uzomah but ideally could replace him after 2023. This group now has future potential with the five on the roster.

Overall give Joe Douglas & the front office a B+ with potential that 3 of the draft picks could develop into future starters if not compete this year for majority of the snaps. Depth was key this year and they filled the void. Now we will see who makes the final roster cut, expect them all to compete for viable active 53. Also expect the rookie free agents to make a splash, some got some serious guaranteed monies like last year two who got monies made the roster, expecting the same this year.

C+, including the dumb pick swap. Most mocks had the last blue chip tackle going 13th or so, so dropping to 15 was always likely to bite us in the azz. It seems like we then desperately tried to trade down before taking a LB slated to go in the second round. It is as if the Packers got a 2nd and 1st but we gave up two 1sts. Damage limitation later on, good pick in the second round and we got an OT coming off serious injury. Perhaps McDonald will be the second coming of Lawrence Taylor, perhaps there will be some diamonds in the rough elsewhere, but at the moment a number of the other 31 teams increased their lead over us.

What if that dumb pick swap not happening was the difference between having a competent QB or not?

C+ to a B at best. Depth picks and hopefully some good ones. Hopefully that first rounder can be converted to a starting and very good linebacker. Seems a little bit to thin to be playing DE on a regular basis.

Question, is The Fordham QB a tryout guy or was he signed?

Kid says he plans to play at 6’4” 250 which would make him about the same size as Huff . Either way, he’s not expected to start this season and could give us what we need down the stretch of the season just like Huff did last year

After doing more research on the picks, because I didn't get to watch much college ball this season, and taking into consideration the picks that JD had to star with, I give it a solid B. Besides adding some depth there is quite a bit of potential in the group. Plus I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tippmann beats out McGovern for the starting position. McGovern did improve as time went on but when I look at his stats the only thing he was really good at was not missing any games and being available, as important as that is, isn't good enough at the anchor position of the "O" line.
