Following the end of a disappointing 2022 season, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson said he would make “life hell in practice every day” for any veteran passer New York brought in. But new Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said Friday that hasn’t been the case and that Wilson has been “a joy to work with.” Here’s what you need to know:
Rodgers is in his first offseason with New York after being traded from Green Bay just ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. He said Wilson “hasn’t made (his) life hell every day.”
Wilson also said he’s “psyched” to have Rodgers on the team.
“I have to look at where I’m at and how I can be the best I can be, and I think he’s a big part of that,” Wilson said.
What else they said
Rodgers said he and Wilson have a good friendship and have spent some time together off the field
“I have a lot of love for him and even more respect for the way that he’s handled things and made me feel welcomed and important and also just been in my hip pocket learning, ton of questions in the locker room, in the meeting room, after hours,” Rodgers said. “But I love that because I feel like that’s a big part of my role here … to not just play at a super high level for this team and help us win, but to make sure he’s ready when his time comes.”
Wilson said that he’s learned a lot from Rodgers and the new offensive coaches the Jets brought in this offseason, but joked he sometimes will stir the pot.
“How old is he, 40? He’s double my age. I’m like: ‘You’re like my big brother I never had.’ Sometimes your little brother has to make your life hell,” Wilson said.
“Right now I’m having a ton of fun, more fun than I’ve had, and I think that’s just the QB room, being in there — I feel like every day there’s so much to learn,” Wilson added. “It’s like every day, wow, I just learned 10 different things about the QB position.”
