Zach Wilson

I'm watching get up this morning and it's like listening to all our of words/concerns echo'd right back at me.

-He should never have been drafted
-This guy doesn't belong on an NFL field
-They should have signed Mike White and Zach should never have been the #2 (it was supposed to be a gap year, so another failure by the CS)
-Worst QB in football since entering the league
-He simply can't see the field
-Team is not doing what's in the best interest of the team
-No real QB was brought on to protect his fragile confidence
-Why is he being held to a different standard than the other 52 players (can't even have competition on the field)!

I mean at this point, the situation is so toxic I simply can't believe that the locker-room isn't fracturing. If Saleh doesn't pull his head out of his ass and pull the plug on this nonsense both him and JD will be looking for a new job.
And we had PLENTY of folks on various Jet boards telling us that what we were seeing in Zach wasn't there. It was always about "lack of weapons", "bad coaching" or some other fantasy. Same was true for the Darnold disaster.

The locker room will fracture if it hasn’t already. Happens every year.

Rodgers is watching this and will not need another trip into the darkness to know that there’s no way in hell he’ll be coming near this mess ever again

Rodgers is a bigger moron than I already believe for signing with this team. Spend the remaining years of his career with JD at GM and Bobby S. at HC? With our team history, especially of late? Right. Excellent decision-making right there, folks.

There's a really good article in the Athletic today about the 2021 QB class and generally the bust rate for highly drafted QBs. A decent perspective on what we are dealing with.

Some evidence backing up your locker room comment.

This statement from the article cannot be used with Zach Wilson (totally be used with Darnold, but offense weapons/talent have been consistently added to the team since Zach was drafted)

"“Look at all the quarterback busts over time, and name me one who had everything given to him, was a high draft pick and flat-out fizzled out,” Riddick said. “There may be one, a few here and there who shot themselves in the foot. But more times than not, they went to terrible teams that had a tremendous amount of turnover. They weren’t protected and got their heads beaten in and didn’t have good wide receivers, had terrible defenses, had terrible ownership and front offices."

This was also part of the reason why I didn't want to draft Zach, and even after he was drafted wanted them to keep Darnold and develop the draft pick. I didn't think he was a good pick then, and he has done nothing to change that initial evaluation. The way they handled him was a complete debacle as well, and led to his arrogance and completely botching interviews that essentially got him benched.

No, actually, Terry Baker (#1 pick) just sucked.

The bottom line is that ZW was never ready to play in a year one or even year two, but was put in there anyway. Probably because he would be considered a bust without even stepping on the field, and owners (not just Woody) and those responsible for drafting the player feel like they need to show off the shiny new toy. Inevitably, they end up failing just like Wilson has. Its really a shame because you'll never know what could have been had these 22 year olds been put in the proper situation like Rodgers, Brady and Mahomes. Maybe nothing would have changed, but it makes me laugh at all of the 20/20 hindsight.

I agree with that, and honestly in year 3 he still isn't ready and shouldn't be out there. The problem is the decision makers keep doubling/tripling/quadrupling down on the same bad decision.

Get him off the field already! He cannot get the job done.

Wilson's best chance at redemption will be if some GM who already has a well established QB and coach, picks him up and puts him on PS and lets him sit for a couple of years. Maybe then he'll have grown up and figured out the speed of the game. One thing is for sure, when scouting these kids you never really know what is between the ears.

My only argument is that if he sat the first two years, MAYBE he would have been in a much better position to be on the field. Otherwise, you are correct.

Who knows, maybe Greg Knapp passing away really derailed the plans. Personally I don't see how you can redeem Zach in year 3 and 24 years old. Even if Rodgers comes back healthy and give us 2-3 years of play, do you really keep Zach as a backup until he is 26/27?

He is the #2 draft pick. Financially is he will to except backup QB salary for the next 2-3 years to sit and learn? I don't think he will be, and waiting until year 5-6-7 to figure out if he can get it seems like a ridiculous waste of everyone's time.

They did it to themselves. Zach should have been 3rd string from the beginning.
They made a huge error in not bringing in a Vet to back up Rodgers. Now they are stuck with Wilson, they think they are protecting Him by backing Him and they are about to lose the Locker Room.
They are stuck now and unless they make a radical move its going to get worse.
In reality there is no radical move they can make. There's really not an option out there at this point. For a guy to come in, learn the offense, and play would be a minor miracle. Start Rodgers Lite and sit Zach where He belongs. On the bench.
At least the games would be watchable.

Anybody else get really annoyed seeing Zach with his kewpie doll face? Those eyes in a perpetual state of stunned surprise? I just can't watch the kid any more. I wind up yelling something at the TV.

Wilson will be 30 before he figures it out and that’s if he’s lucky enough for that to happen.
